Really good ice cream, and cool ‘fun house’ décor. The owner was really nice, and told some funny jokes.

The best thing about I Scream Ice Cream is the lovely owner. He was so friendly and definitely one of the most memorable people I’ve met. He went as far as to give us a little snack for our flight back home because South West«doesn’t ever give food» ha So anyways, I got a salted caramel and almond ice cream. The ice cream had caramel swirled throughout with chunks of almonds. Apparently he gets his ice cream from out of state but you get tons of toppings and the first topping is freeeeee!

Awesome find! Fun for all ages. Nostalgic toys floor to ceiling. Music from vinyl on the turntable. And the ice cream is good too!

This is definitely the place to go when you crave ice cream — tons of flavors to choose from and one free topping! The perfect place to bring the whole family — lots of things to read, look at and play.

Awesome ice cream, great flavors, and toppings and you get 3 scoops no matter what size you get. Great deal! Exceptional service! Better than Baskin Robbins!

We had to get an ice cream fix so we stopped by this joint right off I-40. They have«old school» games and toys that kids were enjoying. Such a great place, now on to the ice cream! No matter the size, you get 3 flavored and one topping. Who does that? What a steal! I told the owner that we were driving back to Texas and he gave us more candy to «fill up on» as he said. Great place, great owner, and even better ice cream! We’ll be back on our next adventure!

My wife and I were in Albuquerque for the weekend. We’d just finished dinner and were in the mood for ice cream, just not from the usual chain places. Thanks to Unilocal,we found I Scream Ice Cream. The interior of the store is filled with all kinds of childhood memories — toys, board games, album covers, old radios, cameras and film projectors, and best of all a Pac Man/Galaga machine in the back. You could spend an hour just looking at everything after you finish your ice cream! The ice cream is very good — 32 flavors and 32 different toppings. Perhaps the best part of our visit was the opportunity to visit with Bill, the owner(this is a family owned, family operated business). He’s a former session musician who played with some very notable people in the 60’s and 70’s and he’s got some great stories to tell. We will certainly be back for more ice cream and more stories from Bill!

If I lived in Albuquerque, I guarantee you I’d be here a few times a week with my boys. We were driving through Albuquerque and decided to get some ice cream for my boys since they did such an awesome job with the 8 hour drive(we came from Texas). A quick search on my phone initially led us to another ice cream place, but we saw it was in an area where parking seemed like it would be a nightmare to find(it was early evening on a Saturday) so another google search led us here. I’ll tell yah, we are so glad that we came here instead. This place is awesome. So many different ice cream flavors and the shop has a cool play area for children filled with toys that most of us remember from our childhoods. My boys had a blast. The owner is also very kind, he gave us some free samples & free jelly beans for the boys. We ended up getting two small cups of vanilla with sprinkles & a med cup of coffee ice cream for my husband & I to share. Next time we’re in Albuquerque, we will have to stop by here again.

A fun ice cream parlor that I would recommend to anyone! Was able to sample several flavors before making my decision of a medium cup with three flavors(banana nut, mint chip, pralines and cream) and a free topping(chose walnuts). Cinnamon churro was also a delicious, non-traditional flavor. The owner was very friendly and after ordering, we sat down and played scrabble(one of many games and puzzles to choose from there). Also ordered a coffee with a scoopette of ice cream which was a real treat! Yummm

My girlfriend was craving a coffee and I was salivating for some ice cream. This mom and pop shop exceeded every expectation that I had. The décor was amazing and brought back so many memories from my childhood with figurines of Disney characters to old school artist. The service was exceptional and the atmosphere was delightful. Came all the way from Arizona! Will definitely be back.

I can’t believe I didn’t know about this place sooner! Talk about a hidden ABQ gem. It’s a blast from the past. Anytime we drive by this place our toddler asks for ice cream now. They serve Blue Bell ice cream. They are great about mixing different flavors. A topping is also included — we always get animal crackers on the side for our topping. The best part about this place is it is a play place. They have some of the best toys from my childhood out for the kids to enjoy. We go here more for the opportunity to play than the ice cream. The owner is very kind and social. It is one of our favorite local ice cream places.

Best ice cream I’ve had in a long while! The guy that owns this place is also very kind. 3 flavors in 1 cup with a free topping?! Can’t beat that!

I Scream Ice Cream is a little nostalgic. It brings back great memories of the mom and pop ice cream shops that you’d find all over the Midwest, not to mention the décor. The owner is hilarious. I guarantee he’ll put a smile on your face. He’s so witty and charming. And likes to poke pun. I always take my dog, and he comes outside and brings her a doggy sunday.

The owner of this place makes it. I mean, the environment is wonderful, but he’s at ease and kind and attentive. He always has remembered me and treated us kindly, and the tables are the cleanest tables I’ve ever seen in an ice cream place. One time my son threw up… And by the time I came out from the bathroom with him he had the mess almost cleaned up and I was horrified at the mess my son made but he just handled it so well that it was the least awkward throw-up situation I’ve ever been in. The toys are wonderful… But so is the place, the toppings, the owner, and the whole experience. After you go the first time you’ll most certainly go back.

WELOVETHISPLACE!!! Who the heck doesn’t??? Whenever we need a little break from life, this is where we go. A wide variety of ice cream flavors and just about any topping you could dream of. There are also snacks, sodas and hot dogs to eat. Wall to wall, floor to ceiling this place is filled with fun. Toys, games, books, antiques, wigs, hats, costumes… EVERYTHING is here. And you get to play with it. If you have not been here before, drop what you are doing immediately and go, you will have a blast, regardless of age.

Another sad ice cream experience for me. Am I just too picky about my frozen treats? Are my standards too high? Well, in any case, the search for epic ice cream in the 505 continues. The ice cream is decent, but it’s Blue Bell brand, not made in house. They really push the add ins(maybe because otherwise you could just buy Blue Bell and eat at home?). Also, another run in with the styrofoam. When I asked if there was another non-styrofoam container option(I don’t use the cones), they basically looked at me like I was nuts and the owner asked if I was«one of those earth friendly fanatics». I told him that I was and asked again if there was another option. He pointed to a mug tree with some old chipped mugs and said I could use one of those. They were all dusty and dirty… ick. I will not be back here.

Talk about an ol’ fasion ice cream shop, this place really hits the spot. This is the local home town version of a Baskin Robbins combined with all sorts of things for kids and adult-kids to play with and see. The folks I saw today were all to eager to serve me copious amounts of their creamy delicious ice creams and toppings. Apparently they show movies out front for free on the weekends. Take a second and pop in here, you’ll be glad you did expecially now that summer is in full swing :)

You know how sometimes someone is nice to you, for no apparent reason, and it’s not even a big deal, just a smile, fun conversation, maybe a little effort to put a smile in your day? And when it happens at EXACTLY the right time, just when you need it, even when you might not have realized how much you really did need it, makes it just that much better? I was having a bad day. Actually, more like a bad month or two. Stress over a LOT of things, and now I am crunching for finals and frankly terrified I will mess up. I ran an errand for work, and I was wanting a little something unhealthily delicious to brighten my day on the way back. I couldn’t really think of anything I wanted, but then it hit me — a shake. A really good, chocolatey, thick, yummy shake. So I detoured to I Scream and went in, not really expecting more than a really good ice cream shake. But I got a lot more. The guy who owns it, I believe, was sitting chatting with some folks but got right up to help me. His first words to me were, so, you need a little ice cream to get through the rest of your Thursday, eh? He was friendly and fun and just really nice. Shake ordered(coffee and chocolate — though I should have taken his advice and also gotten cinnamon), he chit chatted with me — but you know how often counter chit chat is just lame and you really want to avoid it? This was not. It was pleasant. He was thoughtful and kind, asked about my classes and finals. Told me about his new puppy. It wasn’t really the content, it was the way he talked to me. I just felt better. He added extras to my shake — a little chocolate syrup, a bit of coffee syrup — to make it better, and then after I paid, he said hold on, I want to do one more thing for you. He got a little condiment takeout container and put some M&M’s in it, handed it to me and said these were my study pills, to take one every ten minutes to feel better. I can’t tell you how much better that silly little gesture made me feel. Yes, the ice cream is good, yest, the place is fun and weird and a total throwback to — well, I don’t know, something awesome. But the reason I love it is the guy who makes you happy, just for coming in to get a little ice cream. Just plain wonderful.

The reviews have basically covered the details of this place, so I’m going to channel my kid for this review. Iris, who’s about to turn three years, streams her mental review as follows: Daddy and mommy say we get ice cweam. I like chocolate. I say Sure, yes, we can get ice cweam, okay! We go in da door and mommy hold me, I see toys. And den I see more toys and more toys. I want to pway with da toys! Mommy hold me we look at ice cweam. Many, many ice cweams, but I say I want chocolate! Mommy get me a cup, I eat with mommy and daddy. It’s yummy. I go pway. Dere are trains and dere’s a mask and dere’s dolls and lots and lots of other tings. I have to go potty. Mommy take me to potty. Dere’s toys on da wall! I love potty! I pee. Den I pway wit toys again. Dere’s kids, I pway wit dem too. Mommy and daddy watch. Dey sometimes say No Iris, don’t pway wit dat. But den I jus pway wit someting else. Mommy say Do you want to come here again? And I say Yes, can we come here again sometime? And she say yes. I don’t want to go. But mommy say it’s bed time. So I go. (And… scene.) Great place. Decent ice cream with a bevy of really yummy toppings, the first one is free, absolutely reasonably priced. Bill, the owner, has this eclectic air about him that exudes a love of children and bygone simple pleasures. The nondescript locale, a strip mall, utilizes every inch, wall-to-ceiling, with intriguing Americana that will keep your eyes busy and your kid endlessly entertained. It reminded me of Tinkertown a bit. As Heather M noted, hit up the movie nights on Friday, as well. A local gem in a box.
