Wan Fung Chinese Herbs and Tea

I’m a licensed acupuncturist. I come here primarily to fill custom herbal formulas, because I can get patent teapills (& Yunnan Baiyao) wholesale using my license. This is my go-​to place in the area because they open late and provide good service. Similar apothecaries in Oakland Chinatown close at 6pm and are usually more crowded so you’ll have to wait ~10−20 mins longer for a custom order. Also you can get a bubble tea while you wait, if you’re into that sort of treat.
Note: If the formula is in pinyin they can fill it for you (I usually write it out in Chinese characters). It’s true they don’t speak much English, but at least service is friendly.
They have a good selection of bulk herbs and do not display endangered species, which I appreciate. The price is very affordable, but if you need your herbs to be higher quality (i.e. gluten free, pesticide free, etc.) and don’t mind paying more for it, try Shen Clinic down San Pablo near Marin Ave. They carry Springwind Herbs which tests for 400 kinds of pesticides.

I needed to get Yunnan Baiyao for my dog. Yunnan Baiyao is used for internal bleeding. Pets Referral, where I took my dog to get a pericardial tap suggested this medicine to help prolong my dog’s life. They charged me $ 31 a box which only lasts 2.5 days. I found the same Yunnan Baiyao here for $ 9 a box. The other person who reviewed this store wrote a good suggestion: either know how to pronounce what you’re looking for or bring in the box. The woman who helped me showed me exactly what I was looking for after I showed her my empty box.

Looking for Chinese herbs and acupuncture in the El Cerrito/​Albany area? This store is owned by the same people who have an herb emporium at Pacific East Mall, and it carries some Chinese medicines that the Pacific East store doesn’t have. Best to be able to pronounce what you want correctly, or bring an empty bottle: the owner does not have much English. However, his daughter is usually around and she has plenty. I haven’t tried the acupuncture but it’s relatively inexpensive.
