Stopped in for a quick lunch. Service was fast. Sushi was fantastic. Very fresh and very good combinations. Appetizer sampler was also a great choice. All in all great sushi. Will definitely be back here again.

Some of the best sushi I have ever had in my entire life. Service could be a little faster but all in all great. I recommend trying the ccc roll and the chicken tempura roll. They are wonderful. The edamame is slightly on the salty side but other than that, a great place for wonderful sushi.

Went here with friends. I liked that it had its own parking. They had Great sushi and great crab salad. We ordered the CCC roll, dragon roll and ninja roll. My favorite was the ninja roll. Service was good too. The ambience is ok.

We came here after a show at the Times Union Center strictly on Unilocal Reviews. We were headed to another Japanese restaurant we knew further up Western Ave, but as we drove by it looked so cute, we changed our plans(we had already reviewed Unilocal and were aware of it) but were heading for the familiar. We were not disappointed. Very friendly service, cute modern décor with warm lighting. Lots of menu choices. Sushi was fresh and well presented. We were a party of 9 and they accommodated us with no problem. Cute street appeal which as I mentioned, Drew is in in the first place.

I have been to shogun a couple of times and the service has been consistently great and so quick! I only get their sushi and a few apps but everything has been super fresh and extremely delicious, it’s good quality sushi for this area. They are also speedy with deliveries and the food is still fresh. The prices extremely fair for the quality, it’s only a dollar or two more per roll than some lower quality, cheaper sushi places around. Highly recommend!

This is one of our favorite Capital Region restaurants. The sushi is incredibly fresh and tasty. Order off the daily specials or chef’s selections. Prices are reasonable and service is good. We’ve never had a bad experience, and everyone we’ve taken here has loved it.

I love going here. I also order grubhub. I am a regular. Their sesame chicken is amazing.

My husband & I went here last weekend for the 1st time. I love their foods, everything that we order was great, but I gave them 1 – 2 stars because our waitress was lazy & we had to wait forever to order & also to check out. My husband have to walk to the counter all time to find her & saw the staffs sit there & chit chatting!!! The restaurant was literally empty & not busy at all, but our waitress just lazy as it can be. I had a bad experience here.

Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. I thought it would be busy, but we walked right in and got a table by the window. It was a great spot because you can people watch outside and see the sushi bar. We started with Japanese beer and did an eyes covered taste test with Sapporo and Asahi. I can now say my go-to Japanese beer is Sapporo. I’ll have to try this with sake next time! I ordered the Japanese curry and my boyfriend ordered sushi deluxe(9 pieces of chef selected sushi and a tuna roll). The curry wasn’t for me. It was creamy, but had a stale flavor. The veggies were a good variety, cooked well and plentiful, but I couldn’t shake the flavor of the sauce. I also had some of the sushi and it was great. It was fresh and the cuts were generous. If you go here, order the sushi. Overall, I was hoping this place was going to have a better atmosphere. The lighting was a little bright and the service a little lacking. For sure not the place to go on a date night. Might be better as a lunch spot.

Come here for lunch and get their lunch box special. You get a tremendous amount of food for only $ 10 – 11. I got the shrimp curry lunch box, and it came with 2 piping hot and flaky spring rolls & sweet/sour sauce, a California roll, a generous scoop of white sticky rice, and of course the shrimp curry mixed with vegetables. It also came with a miso soup or salad starter! You can’t go wrong. Their other menu items are a bit expensive($ 5 for an avocado roll of only 6 pieces??) so I’m sticking to lunch. And dessert — their green tea cheesecake is AMAZING.

Liked the atmosphere, loved the christmas roll(fitting name… had to order another round it was so good) and red bean tempura ice cream. Strongly not in favor of the miso soup(the neighbor’s salad looked like it tasted good though) or teriyaki chicken. I was expecting hibachi style so that was my southern mistake(in knoxville hibachi is a constant. You can get either teriyaki hibachi or hibachi hibachi, and I prefer the former). Regardless it was slimy and different. Just so much celery on the plate. I’m rarely looking for celery. Our server was grand! She’d make it on the love list too. I should warn you, the place was crawling with lady guests who mostly sounded fresh out of the Valley, circa 1985. Not the hudson valley, the one in California. Lots o words per minute. This was a little distracting on a date with the hub. Of course this might be what you’re into. If that’s the case I’d give it a whack. And if that’s not the case I’d still give it a whack, at least you’ll now know what hit you. Make sure you remember the part about the ice cream, please. thanks. you’re welcome. Bye!

Adequate sushi place. Rolls are decent sized, not huge. Sometimes they get a little crazy with the sauces on their sushi. Service was good. Only been during the week and its not been crazy busy. Location is good and there is parking in the back which is nice in this busy area where parking can be scarce.

It’s funny — I went to Shogun with my wife when it first opened and I loved it. I was like«we gotta get back there.» So circle around, you know like 3 years later and we finally got back. It was just as good as the first time. Usually we like to rock the«little bit of sushi» + «some noodle dish» to split between the two of us, so when I saw the Spicy Maki Combo(3 rolls for $ 16) I naturally suggested that. The sushi is fresh. The sautéed noodles with scallops were even fresher, and it was the perfect amount of food for $ 30-$ 35 bucks, which for a good quality Japanese place for two people is tough. Wait staff cleans up after you quickly, but isn’t in your face or annoying. Atmosphere is nice and quiet. Oh and I almost forgot about the parking! Parking on Lark Street — enough said. Go on Cinco De Mayo like us and you won’t have trouble finding a spot or a table. Cheers!

I usually go to Hana on the other side of town but was staying nearby and decided to give Shogun a try instead. Has parking behind the restaurant which is always a big plus, the place is nicely decorated and the service was excellent. The food was not up to par with the rest of the place. Ordered an app from the kitchen which was very good, and then ordered a sashimi entrée. Several of the fish smelled very fishy; I realize this sounds rather nonsensical, but fresh fish should not smell fishy. The tuna smelled and tasted mildly of ammonia, which I take is not a good sign by any measure. None of the food caused me to get sick, which was a good sign. Perhaps the best way to get the most enjoyable experience would be to order special rolls which have other ingredients to help mask the less than fresh fish. Would try again, hoping this was just a bad night

4 stars for their yummy food! We came here around 6 – 6:30ish to grab dinner and were seated right away. We started out with the appetizer sampler(japanese styled spring rolls, pork gyoza, and spicy rock shrimp) and they were delicious! The gyoza and the spring rolls came in 3 each. The spring rolls’ stuffing were a little different not like the typical spring roll you’d expect, but it was still good regardless. We also got the shumai which was yummy as well. We got the seaweed salad — good portion, it tasted a little lemony compared to other seaweed salad I had, but I really liked it! For the rolls, we got yellowtail, dragon rolls, golden dream rolls, and Fuji volcano rolls. All the rolls were fantastic, the best one was the golden dream! The Fuji volcano rolls were average compared to the golden dream. For desert, we tried the green tea cheesecake. Although the presentation was aesthetically pleasing, I was disappointed as it did not have any green tea taste. Not one bit. We only tasted the cheesecake and chocolate. It’s almost like normal cheesecake with green coloring. If you’re craving green tea flavored sweet, that would not be the one to get. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Shogun. Our server was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is really clean & quiet. They have parking by their restaurant while you’re dining there(don’t walk off, they’ll tow!) we didn’t know this so we parked on the street, which wasn’t a far walk, but parking by the restaurant is a lot more convenient.

I’m not sure I’ve been to quite enough sushi places in the Albany area to say this is definitely my pick for Albany’s best sushi, but it’s definitely up there. The sushi is very tasty. And fresh. The prices are standard, and they’ve got great lunch specials. They’re pretty prompt when my office has had it delivered, which is VERY appreciated(we’re a hangry bunch). BONUSPOINTS — they have a parking lot! For the Lark/Madison area, this is a rare find… makes going there for lunch super convenient!

Came here a few weeks ago for dinner with friends before a movie and was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the appetizer trio which consists of my 3 favorites; gyoza, spring rolls and rock shrimp. The shrimp were up there with the best rock shrimp I’ve had. Gyoza had a nice pan sear to them as well, and nice crispy spring rolls. I went with the curry chicken for dinner, having never tried curry before. It was very very good, very generous portion. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. I’ve returned once since then and am very satisfied with the service and the food. Only downfall is that it’s a little pricey and they need more drink options. Other than that I would return again because they have so many more things on the menu id like to try!

Very quaint and clean restaurant that I wish I had gone to sooner! Went here with some friends prior to a movie at Madison Theater, and I was not disappointed. Some items that my party and I ordered included a few different sushi rolls, appetizer sampler consisting of rock shrimp, gyoza, and spring rolls(yum to all), Japanese noodles, pad thai, and curry. Of course we finished with the fried ice cream. Everything tasted fresh, and the service was great as well. Only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because it was quite pricey, which was somewhat understandable given the amount of food we ordered.

Prices are ok, service as well, BUT : 1* it should not be called a «sake bar» since the sake they propose are very casual and quality is very average. 2* Sushi & rolls are certainly not«upscale», they are«fine». (There is so much combination and sauces in the special rolls though, that they are not even japanese anymore !)

Summary– Shogun Albany delivers very good raw fish and pretty good rolls with excellent service in a nice atmosphere. Food– 4 Stars Apps– We started with Shumai, Edamame, and Tempura shrimps in Spicy mayo. They were all very excellent. Sushi/Maki– We ordered a Sushi/Sashimi special, which is a relatively economical way to get a ton of raw fish if you are into real sushi. We also ordered a few rolls. The raw fish(Sushi and Sashimi) was downright excellent awesomeness. The rolls left something to be desired versus our prior visit to Shogun Delmar. Most notably the spicy crunchy yellowtail, which was heavy handed w/spicy mayo and lacking any crunch. Service– 5 Stars Great waiter was timely and friendly. Atmosphere– 4 Stars It’s newer, well appointed, clean and nice. Drinks– 4 Stars Didn’t really get anything special but hot sake was as good as hot sake can be. Value– 4 Stars Reasonable prices for great raw fish.
