It’s a hit or miss with this place. By no means is it a formal dining place. It’s either you like it or you don’t. It’s dead during the day, but it’s bustling during the night for drunk/hungry college students. You will see the owner’s kids running around in the shop sometimes, and perhaps one of them tending the counter. I grew up with restaurants like this so it’s normal for me. Student special is awesome for cheap college students like myself. There are only a few items on the menu I order, generally the student special’s Shredded Pork Bell Pepper and the Mapo Tofu. They are really good and you can modify them(or any dish) to be Super Duper Spicy. I also like the spicy tuna/salmon sushi. It’s cheap here and its crunchiness fits my palette. Don’t come here for a date, but come here if you’re hungry after a party or after some moderate to light drinking. There are plenty of bars on Madison and its open late so it can get busy.

Pretty good food, and very reasonably priced. However I’m so disappointed, any time I try to place an order for delivery over the phone they are extremely rude. When I go in and order to wait, they are super slow. They don’t seem to care about losing business. I’ll order from the other nearby restaurants with comparable food and much better customer service!

This is my favorite Chinese food spot right now. Great family run restaurant with real food. You can tell they actually make their dumplings rather than using the canned variety that most Chinese take out restaurants use. The Kung pao tofu is amazing. Everything I’ve ordered so far has been great!

Sushi has always been fresh, student specials are always great! Price is just right and portion size is as well! Love it, thanks!

It’s currently in my opinion, the best fast food Chinese college option. They may be a bit higher in price than the alternatives but the quality of the food is just so much better than the other places that the extra dollar seems moot.

Although the food was delicious, the service was absolutely terrible. The chef didn’t make any attempt to be friendly towards my family and I. When we repeatedly said thank you there was no response and her child was whistling during our entire dining experience. For take out I’d say yes for staying to eat I’d say no.

«Fried Rice is Nice(Sometimes)» by Josh K. Asian Place is completely average Americanized Chinese food for those times when you are craving some wet, greasy noodles and mystery meat. And it is cheap — 6.99 for a Dinner combination. Perhaps it was because it was a slow Monday, with college out of session, but I would not recommend eating in. Although the interior is, by far, a step ahead of your regular grimy Chinese take-out establishments, such as Shun’s across the street for example, I couldn’t tell if I entered a restaurant or someone’s private home. There was toys, books, and newspapers scattered about, and kids doing homework and coloring on the sushi bar. Note: I didn’t see any sushi, just completely empty space, so this must not be offered on Mondays; not that I would order sushi from this place anyway. I was greeted(rather not greeted) with complete indifference when I entered. Everyone inside looked younger than 13, so I was not sure who was in charge(if any), and not seeing, hearing or smelling anything coming from the kitchen, who(if any) was doing the cooking. However, somebody must have been because I ordered take-out, and my food(Pork Lo mein dinner combo w/fried rice and an egg roll) was ready and sitting out on the counter when I arrived fifteen minutes after placing the order. I did have to ask for it though as nobody inside volunteered to ask me why I was there or to bring out my food. Strange. And greasy noodles they were.

Terrible service ! I decided to try asian place for the first time and it was not what i expected. This place was filled with dirty plates on top of tables and employees where too busy talking to their friends. The food was okay.

This is probably one of the best tasting take out Chinese places in the student area. Its just a step below actual sit down restaurant food but above all the other, cheap take out places around here. They have really cheap deals which is nice. When you sit in the restaurant too they give you extra food it feels like. Recently their food has been extra greasy, but sometimes you just need some greasy lo mein! Would recommend for take out cause you’ll be pleasantly surprised but if you want high quality Chinese you’ll de disappointed,

Owners are awesome and food is great. The 3 rolls deal is one of the best in the cap region!

As an immigrant from a developing country, I have extremely low expectations of service. My idea of service is «you gave me the food? Great!» Asian Place took first place today in the«Worst Experience and Service In A U.S. Restaurant.» This restaurant used to be my to-go to place for affordable asian food but after today, I’m blacklisting this sad excuse of a restaurant. My friend and I should have known that it would be a bad experience from the first few minutes we were in the restaurant. Aside from two guys eating behind us, there was no one in the restaurant. We waited ten minutes while our waitress talked with her two of her friends as her manager/boss looked on(I wish I could make this stuff up). For those of you who have been to the restaurant, its not a huge establishment and we can literally hear her talking to her friends. I finally call her attention and her friends, who finally realized their friend is at work with waiting customers, sat at an empty table. My friend chose the three roll deal while I had one of the dinner combinations. Not even five minutes after I ordered, my soup and order came. Great! My friend told me to start eating. Thirty minutes later, my friend’s food still has not appeared. She walks up to the waitress and asks where her order is. The waitress had not given the ticket to her manager/boss. The manager/boss doesn’t apologize. She explains to my friend that the waitress didn’t give the ticket – thanks for pointing out the obvious. So my friend is reluctant but decides to go ahead with the order. At this point, I tell the waitress how impressed I was at her terrible service in the restaurant: she finally apologizes for her screw up. The manager asks my friend to remember her order even though she has the ticket from the waitress. Meanwhile we share my meal together. More people come in the restaurant and they start to get busy. Somehow the waitress is still ok with talking on the phone – she is obviously not taking phone orders.(This has got to be the best job ever since she’s getting paid to just talk on the business phone.) We wait another thirty minutes. My friend goes up AGAIN(this is a consistent theme in this restaurant apparently) to ask what happened to her order and the manager points to the tray of food sitting comfortably next to the waitress. The food was ready, the waitress did not put it on our table. WTF? So she has essentially been sitting there, on the phone, with customers waiting, and having my friend wait for her food(which by the way, was RIGHTNEXTTOHER this whole time). My friend at this point has lost her appetite; I eat a piece but it is disgusting. What was supposed to be salmon and cream cheese literally tasted like cardboard. My friend asks for the waitress to come – instead the manager’s kid comes. We explain to her that we need to talk to someone and she yells out«Mom!» My friend explains that the food was an hour late and she is not going to pay for it. The manager starts yelling at my friend all the while heading to the kitchen: «I asked you if you wanted it and you said yes! I didn’t get the ticket, it wasn’t my fault.» My friend tries to explain to her why she shouldn’t pay for it but the manager yells«NO! Its done! Its finished! Its ok! I’ll eat this dish.» I’m flabbergasted at the reaction. As she’s retreating into the kitchen, the whole thing gets even stranger: she yells out«I’ll note you! I’ll note you!» . So wait, you screwed up and YOU’LL note us??? I say«I come here a lot but now I won’t.» We go to the counter and then the manager keeps yelling about how they apologized(The manager never apologized by the way) and that we «should forget it.» She charges me for the one roll I ate – I have zero fucks to give. Any normal freaking restaurant would have given us the meal for free for the troubles. At this point, we don’t care and just want to get the hell out of there. The manager continues to yell at my friend while she swipes my debit card. My friend calmly says: «I don’t eat out to be yelled at.» The manager realizes she is yelling and lowers her voice but she’s still muttering about how my friend was the one who said to go for it. I get the debit receipt, put a line across the tip line, and get the hell out. Asian Place, I used to recommend you to friends and family. Too bad you’re «noting» me: now I’ll just send people I hate to you.

Service was horrendous ! The place was dead and the employes were too busy to talking to friends to make the food we ordered. Sooo 35 – 40 mins later we got our sushi to go. The food itself was good …

Always fresh! And you can taste it In the quality of the food. Sesame chicken and garlic chicken are favorites. The portions are also very generous. My go to place for Chinese food in Albany.

Asian Place’s $ 8.953-roll sushi special can’t be beat for delicious sushi on a tight budget. Am especially fond of their Spicy Salmon roll, but have had the California, Alaska, Boston, Cucumber and Avocado, Philadelphia, and Spicy Tuna rolls. I have never experienced anything but fresh tasting, well rolled sushi from Asian Place. Tried their House Salad the other day too and was impressed that it was served with tender strips of crab instead of just being lettuce, tomato, cucumber and ginger dressing. Very yummy. While certainly not a fancy restaurant, the establishment is clean, the food is good and the cartoons that the owner’s kids are watching are usually really enjoyable.(Yes, the kids are in the restaurant and both the son and daughter are adorable.) Not that I don’t love really upscale sushi experiences as well, I happen to enjoy down-home, unassuming places such as Asian Place just as much and for different reasons. If the food and experience is good, whether at low prices or high prices, I’ll always support a place and be back again and again.

Hit or Miss. This is a great restaurant for college students. Choose any 3 rolls for $ 8.95 — it’s a great deal. However, the quality of the sushi is not consistent. Yes, you get soup with your meal… but, the soup taste as if it’s from a box/package. I recommend The Asian place, to anyone who wants decent sushi for a great price … Aka college students– who don’t mind eating their food in fear. service: Not impressed. Basically, Go for the sushi deal. However, leave your expectations at the door.

As you expect from Chinese place, you can get a good amount of food at low cost. The flavor of their food is much better than other chinese places in the area although it is still at American-Chiese level. Be prepare to be harassed by kids playing in the restaurant :)

By no means an upscale sushi/Japanese restaurant. However, being in the mid town college area, this is my go to place when I want quick, decent sushi. I have tried Ruby across the street and will never go back, the sushi tasted«fishy» so I barely ate it in fear I would get sick. However, Asian place I have had many many times over the past year and I am never disappointed. $ 10 for 3 basic rolls! Can’t get any better than that for a poor college student with a sushi obsession. They have really good sushi specials and I tend to stick to only the spicy tuna rolls. They are well portioned and(most of the time) well put together. I have tried a few of their specialty rolls but they are expensive for nothing special. There are many Asians always eating in there when I go in so it is good sushi, I just think some people are too afraid of where it is located(used to be A Dragon which was YUK) to try it. I have had their Japanese food only twice, the first time we tried the noodles and a few chicken dishes but it made both my boyfriend and I sick all night. They have a lot of stuff on their menu, almost too many choices, and I can’t see them being able to make everything well and with good ingredients. I just had the $ 5.95 special with beef teriyaki, veggies and white rice and it was pretty good and a good deal, I would definitely get it again(as long as it doesn’t make me sick later tonight). Bottom line: for good, cheap, quick sushi that you can have delivered pretty quickly, this is the place.

This restaurant was renovated recently, I don’t know if it’s the same owner or a new one, but it does look better now. So yesterday hubby and I decided to give it a try. We came for lunch and we were the only customers. It was so quiet, no music, no usual restaurant noise, it was weird. I ordered the salmon sushi and tuna rolls while hubby had exactly the opposite(tuna sushi with salmon rolls). We thought that it’s going to be quick since there’s no cooking required and it was only the two of us, but turned out we had to wait for at least 15 minutes. Not super long, but we were expecting a faster service especially considering those reasons. The sushi was not special, and hubby said that his tuna was not cold. Mine was just like the sushi that you’d buy in a supermarket. They have no bento box, and you have to pay extra $ 2 for a bowl of miso soup that usually comes for free in other restaurants. With what we had for lunch(see photo), we weren’t full so we ended up going to the Madison pizza next door after that. Asian Place needs to improve on their combination of menus, offers, and service, especially if it wants to compete with other Asian restaurants nearby.

So good that after 3 years of being a member– I am finally ready to Unilocal about something. Being a poor student and a big sushi fan has not worked out well for me in the past, but here is where that ends. Best part about this place? The Deal. Any 3 rolls, any time for $ 8.95(including a giant bowl of miso soup). A family owned business that just opened up. They have chinese food on the menu as well and a cozy restaurant inside complete with a sushi bar. If you don’t feel like leaving the house, I’ve discovered they have fast delivery. I would give it 4.5 stars only because although their sushi is very good, its not the best I’ve had(I’ve been to a lot of sushi places in my day) and I like my sushi with a nice tall glass of wine(No liquor license… yet). Still for those out there looking for a new sushi place with some great deals– look no further. Asian Place has arrived.
