Higher prices than Home Depot for sure, but you expect that from a local hardware store. This place is HUGE and has EVERYTHING. If there’s a bigger/better/fancier hardware store, I’ve never seen it. There’s an adjoining kitchen supply shop and outdoor furniture section/shop as well. Again, high prices but this is Alamo right?

Came here today to buy a few things I needed. The store itself is nice & organized. And the older lady that rang me up was friendly. I was in there for maybe 10 minutes or so. I was looking at all the signs to see what aisle I needed to go down. Three employees walked by me and not one of them asked if I needed help finding anything.

Great customer service! First time at this store. We were greeted immediately and throughout the store even though it was busy.

This Ace is the place! Recently purchased a Weber BBQ here for my husband as a surprise for Father’s Day. Their customer service is above and beyond– helped me decide which one to buy, I was able to secretly have it delivered for $ 25.00 and the nicest surprise was that it was all assembled– missed that information when buying the BBQ! My Husband was so happy and pleasantly surprised– will gladly drive to Alamo for our hardware needs despite having a Home Depot right here in town! They also put a very nice note on the BBQ wishing him a Happy Fathers Day and to contact them if we have any other needs! Such awesome customer service!

They are great people there and they do their utmost to try to help you find what you need. Plus, they appear to have many items that homes local to Alamo need. As an example, I looked around online and at Home Depot for a replacement lawn mower blade for a rear-bagger Craftsman mower. The only place I could find one was at Sears and that was too far to travel. Alamo Ace had exactly the blade to fit my mower.

I finally found Lantana; it’s a flowering shrub and does great in the full sun. I’ve been looking for over a month with no luck. I was told at one gardening store that they were having problems getting them. But, I kept to my search and finally got a few… now I hope to have them growing as I did not have any luck with them in the past. The people there were great and we all had a laugh when I asked about the plant and they pointed next to me… I was standing next to them.

This place is great. They have very helpful employees and have everything a hardware store should stock. They also have bulk items in the back like plywood, pvc, lumber etc… and even help load. So much better than the big box stores. I visit often.

This is a great place. Today I met Al who helped me in the hardware section. I know very little about hardware and Al helped me, educated me and did it all with great humor and a smile. I could not ask for a better experience. Having Al at the Alamo ACE Hardware is reason enough to always go to this ACE store. BTW: everyone has a smile in the store. Amazing and very much appreciated.

I am guessing that individual Ace Hardware stores have a fair amount of autonomy in customer service, and the store in Alamo does a pretty good job. It has people«on the floor» who are fairly knowledgeable to help customers find what they are seeking. I’ve shopped at this location for thirty years(before Yardbirds was bought-out by AceHW). I visited the store February 13th with a $ 10 «Rewards» coupon with the intent of purchasing about $ 40 of goods, but apparently my coupon was only good for the month of February(I hadn’t noticed). The clerk was adamant and unapologetic in saying, «No stores I know accept expired coupons.» THAT was the wrong answer in my view, and I left with less than $ 20 merchandise and left the rest. I’m not sure that I’ll return since there are OSH and HD stores located equally convenient for me. It’s ironic that a «Rewards program» when poorly executed results in the opposite effect as intended. Either this particular clerk was poorly trained or the local management is short-sighted. And BTW, I’ve personally experienced stores that readily accept an expired coupon(some accept coupons from competitors).

Alamo Hardware has the best customer service of any hardware store I have ever been too. Every time I come in knowledgable staff is ready and eager to help. Don’t waste your time at Home Depot.

It is very refreshing to go into a hardware store and have associates available to help you. What a concept! You don’t get that type of personalized service at a Home Depot. They have a great selection of nuts/bolts.

Was shopping around, was helped by the nicest guy — Andy. He looks like a manager. So helpful, so polite and professional. Love this store before. Love it more now.

Had several large slider window screens re-screened — best & I mean the BEST service ever!!! You don’t get service like this at the big box stores like — HD, Loews, etc.

Went through one of the rudest customer experiences that I have ever had. The worst part about it was not their lack of product knowledge and item location but the fact that it was two separate interactions with two different employees that had the most obvious disregard for anyone walking in the store. I called Ace’s CS number and requested to speak to the manager, but have not heard back at. After over 10 years in managing employees and customer service in high level companies, this was hands down one of the worst experiences I have had visiting any retail location. I obviously wont be stepping foot in here again, and I will even go as far as steering all colleagues away from this location.

As the pharmacy manager across the street for nearly 20 yrs, I have seen this hardware store change names like they change paint on the walls. As Ace Hardware, they have been able to maintain the HOMETOWN feel and its nice. I like shopping here, for my general hardware and paint needs. I know they don’t have EVERTHING and they are a little bit more expensive than Home Depot and Lowes. The smiles and good conversation can make your day. Unfortunately, I now avoid the Garden dept, their prices are noticeably higher than other places on the potted plants, and when I pick plants I can’t just buy one or two. So my savings at Home Depot can get me MORE plants.

Great hardware store. We usually go to Home Depot for the prices and selection. This place is a bit on the expensive side. That said, the customer service is stellar AND they carry Pinewood Derby stuff! Plus, workshops! I wish I had known earlier when my son and I were actually working on the car. I may have to start coming here for household items. It is much more conveniently located for us than Home Depot.

In our mid-70s, we were required to remove a built-in, very large refrigerator & remove heavy compressor on top prior to installation of new one. Thought I could do it myself … wrong! Had 90 minutes before new fridge was to be delivered & was told Delivery Crew were not allowed to assist! I recalled recently seeing on the Alamo Hardware store’s website that«handymen» were available so I called and within 30 minutes two strong staff members were at my door to assist. My wife & I were amazed not only at the swiftness of their arrival but in their professionalism in meeting the challenge with a ‘can do’ attitude and in getting the job done! Ryan & Jeff were definitely heroes in our minds. How many other retailers would step up like this? Well, I know of at least one in the San Ramon Valley.

Ace is the place that seems to be going out of business since they can’t quite compete with Home Depot or Lowe’s with the amount of locations. They are pricier, but the customer service is way better than the bigger box stores. The best Ace Hardware is Pastime in El Cerrito, but this one is a close second. This particular location used to be a Yard Birds(aka-Home Depot lite). They are in the process of adding a show room with higher end kitchen and bath wares(toilets, tubs, countertops, showers, etc.) but it is not completed yet(and since we have already done our kitchen and bathrooms we won’t need this place for that stuff). The nursery is nice(higher prices than the big box places again), and the plants seem better taken care of here. We have been able to find things we were looking for that we couldn’t find elsewhere and we will be back from time to time.
