Is this still in business? I’ve tried contacting them via their online form on their website and also left a voicemail inquiring about catering. I haven’t heard either way and it’s been a few days. Maybe they’re no longer operating their business, but if they are, this is horrible customer service. Their Unilocal listing and website are still live…

Shaved ice itself was yummy. But dude working there wouldn’t give me extra cups to split them among my three kids. He said an extra cup was $ 2! I would think that for $ 8(I got two) I could get one measly extra cup for free. 2 shaved ice for three kids equals fights and a mess. Next time we’ll skip it.

The weather was warm on that April 12 day, and my husband and I were at Southshore Shopping Center at OTG Alameda. We spotted this truck from a distance while heading back to the car. Seeing this bright decorated yellow truck had me thinking of the Hawaiian shave ice that I had at Ululani’s in Kihei the month before — a coconut ice cream with flavors of pineapple, passion fruit and mango. I enjoyed my vacation so much that I had to get a Hawaiian shave ice for sheer enjoyment. The owner was friendly and thought I was from Maui, as he started his shave ice business over on that island. Seeing his menu board had me reminiscing about Kihei.(One vanilla ice cream, topped with coconut, passion fruit and pineapple syrups, please… mahalo nui.) Since there will be an event tomorrow at Southshore — the Fourth Annual Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Festival from 11AM to 5PM — I can only hope the Hula Hawaiian Shave Ice truck will be there, so I can savor another sweet treat and think about Maui all over again.
