Youngster attendant at the counter is an unfortunate deterrent. My young friend arrived to join. Unfortunately, the attendant dismissed his joining based on his deck, which is the nature of Magic. However, there was no encouragement to purchase an updated deck to play. There was only repeated comment of «you’ll probably lose all day. It’d be a legal deck but you know, you’ll lose…» These comments all while he reluctantly rung my purchase. We came to buy a seat, were happy to buy a deck but were disappointed in the exclusive attitude and open distaste for an eager participant. In short, it’s in the best interest of a business to encourage new members/followers/patrons, guide them through, encourage further participation that would lead to future purchasing. It’s my hope that the owners/staff read this and encourage a more positive and respectful approach to gaming and business. **Owner Ben since contacted me regarding my review. Kindly explained the circumstances of the day and offered a gracious recompense for my young friend. Thanks, Ben! Updated my review from one to 3 stars as I very much appreciate the effort put forth toward customer service and care.

Great LGS in Alameda run by a great owner, Ben. If you or your family are into table tops, especially Magic, this is the place to come. Supporting local stores like D20 keeps gaming alive in the community.

My favorite game store! The owner Ben is amazing and should be a model for all other game store owners in the East Bay. Wizards, you should pay close attention as to how things are run here because ALL Magic events could learn a thing or two from the community that plays here. Casual is the wrong word, it’s more like a family. Don’t get me wrong there is some serious competition as well, but nobody takes it personally. At the end of the day everyone knows it’s a game and sportsmanship is a high priority. I will never play anywhere else.

I loved living near D20. The environment there was more welcoming than any other game store I’ve ever been to.

D20 is a ton of fun. There’s always something new and Ben is great about suggesting games that we might enjoy. We’ve played MTG here a couple of times, and the new location has a good amount of space. The events were fun and everyone was a good sport. Highly recommended.

This is my #flgs. D20 is a great addition to the community. The new location has plenty of room for gaming, and the store has regular events. It’s a great place for kids, and adults alike. The owner, Ben, is a committed gamer. He’s also simply a nice guy. If you’re new to gaming, he’s happy to guide you through your choices. If you’re looking for gifts for your kids, or your gaming friends, the store’s got a wide selection.

Ben is awesome! Was headed back to SF, but took a wrong turn and ended up in Alameda. figured we’d check out the game stores here and voila! We ended up at D20. If you know what D20 means, this is definitely the spot for you. Well stocked in MTG, Pokemon and a variety of board games as well. Hands down one of the most welcoming and friendly game stores I’ve set foot in. whether you want to wait around for Friday Night Magic or learn to play something, you won’t feel like a stranger or an awkward newbie asking dumb questions. I really really really wish that we lived closer because I would certainly be a regular here! Even if we couldn’t stay for game night, we still bought some sleeves. The prices are standard for a hobby shop and I will pay $ 2 more to keep shoppes like this around any day, they are what makes a neighborhood!

Ben is a great person to talk to and always has great suggestions regarding games. My son enjoyed Pokemon game days at D20 and Ben does a good job keeping the game play fun and family friendly. Unfortunately there are no longer any YuGiOh days and that’s my sons new interest. Hopefully Ben will decide to bring YuGiOh back and create the same great gaming experience for the YuGiOh fans.

I caveat that I am not really the target demographic for his place, however, this place is still worthy of five stars. D20 is a great place to find and play games, and is one of the few gaming venues I go to where women are consistently present and the fellas are well bathed and friendly. If I were to gripe about this place it would be about the pricing. Have no doubt; you can find all this stuff cheaper. However, the quality of the locale and atmosphere Ben engenders is worth ever penny of that economic premium. Great place for kids and the kids at heart. Maybe I am still the target demographic actually…

One of the best nerd stores around for sure. My area of interest is Magic the Gathering so that is what I went there for and I was not disappointed. I was able to take my time looking through plenty of singles. The helpful and friendly staff were able to help me hunt down a few more unusual cards I was looking for without the clique-y atmosphere one sometimes finds in places like this. And finally I was able to participate in a short draft tournament for only $ 12. I had a lot of fun and definitely recommend it to all of my friends. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that it is just a few doors down from American Oak, an excellent whiskey specialty restaurant that serves delicious burgers. So you can go get your game on, and your drink on.

this is great place for kids of all ages to come and do stuff in a safe environment. Ben, the owner, knows everything there is to know about Magic, Pokeman and Dungeons and Dragons. They have drafts regularly, special cards to buy and sell and my son hasn’t been let down yet. Ben is a good guy and I’m lucky he’s set up shop in our neighborhood!

Great atmosphere, Owner is friendly and approachable, Fun for everyone beginning and seasoned gamers alike. Young and less young, everyone’s enjoying their time at D20. Prices are comparable with other game shops in Alameda County.
