Finally… Somebody close by that can do a proper high fade with my weird hairline. They work hard here and the prices are reasonable.

I think that I have found my new barber! The barber was very courteous and respectful; not to mention a foxy lady!

This review is for Jessie who has been doing my hair for a year or more. I followed her here from her precious place. She’s great at color and cut. You can also find her on Style Seat. Jessie Doan. Give her a try.

These folks can do a haircut and modify things if we are clear so they know what we actually want. I have had my beard trimmed, many short and medium sized haircuts, etc. If you want convenience, a decent haircut, economical pricing, then this is a good selection. I’ve seen Monica in the past and appreciated her work.

This has been a convenient and reasonably priced spot for several years, for both adults and kids, but more recently there has been a decline and staff turnover. I have hair that is sometimes difficult to deal with, so I originally went there to get cuts from Brian, who you will see mentioned in some of the older reviews. Well, he’s been gone for years now. So I’ve just been trying different stylists until one shows he/she can cut my hair properly, then staying with them til they leave. The latest of these was Tammy, and she really does a fine job. She’s noticeably detail-oriented, and even though she’s also quite fast, my hair always looks great afterwards. Plus she is extremely sweet and pleasant. She really makes getting a haircut super easy and worry-free. But here’s the thing — the salon is in some sort of upheaval — maybe even an ownership change — and they are shuffling stylists in and out. So the last time I called to get an appointment with Tammy, I was told she was gone. Good thing I’d gotten her cell number and could track her down! Right now she’s got a station at her sister’s salon in Oakland, at least until she finds a spot back in Alameda or elsewhere. It’s on MacArthur in the Laurel District, and although some might find the neighborhood challenging, the slight travel is worth it for her quality and great prices. You can get her on 510÷866−8486.

I hate to do this but you leave me no choice! I’ve been stopping in for a matter of months to get my haircut and every time I ask for Jen they say she just left or not in today and when I asked when she will be back they give vague answers. When I come back the days and times they say she would be there she’s not there and other people offer to cut my hair. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the fact that the last time someone else cut my hair I got a mullet(seriously) … So with that being said I will not be returning…

I’ve been cutting my hair with Tanya for the last 3 – 4 years and have always been happy with the results. My hair is really thick and Tanya is always happy to thin it out for me. Sometimes the cut takes 15 minutes sometimes it takes 40 but she’s always happy about it. If you call to make an appointment the waiting is kept to a minimum. I usually text her the day before to make sure she’s working and she would hold a time slot for me. I can’t vouch for any of the other stylists so call and ask for Tanya if you want to use my review. Thanks!

We live in the Fernside neighborhood. We go to Jan and Tanya. She gives our children super awesome haircuts, at an affordable price. Our son was growing his hair out for 5th grade last year, took him to the barber who butchered it. He cried. Then when it grew out, I took him to Jan, she asked him what he wanted, and has been giving him cool haircuts for over a year now. I get my color done there, in and out, our high school daughter also loves getting her hair trimmed there. If you are offended by them speaking Vietnamese, don’t go. It’s their language. They are kind, starting out on their big American Dream with great hearts.

Always helpful and always nice. The shop is cute and clean. I get what I ask for every time I go in.

Worst place to get a men’s/ child hair cut… their perception of a fade is a straight line that doesn’t blend.

Been coming here off and on for hair cuts. It used to have a larger staff but I guess they quit. Now the ladies seem understaffed and unhappy. Before they used to smile and ask you polite questions — nowadays the atmosphere has changed… Maybe if they hired one or two more people they wouldn’t look so stressed when someone walks through the door… :*( Twice I went in and only one lady was working that day and was told to ‘come back later or maybe tomorrow’. It’s a shame but I’ll keep trying. I will be on the lookout for other places though.

Good and fast service. Ten dollars for a brow wax. She did a good job on my brows. Happy. Haircut for my husband was about 15 bucks. Happy. In and out service as good as it gets.

If i could give 0 stars I would. Let me preface this review by stating my son never received services here because we never got the chance. I’ll also state that we never got the chance to even request a kid’s haircut because no one at this«salon» even addressed or approached us after waiting 15 minutes. If you think it was because it was swamped, NO. We were the only people waiting at reception while the other 2 stylists were working on their customers. It’s extremely small so us standing there was pretty darn obvious. I wonder how long this place will keep open. But then again they must be really great at what they do to give walk-ins such a chilly response. It’s not swanky by any means and the set up is reminiscent of a Supercuts. That should have registered as a red flag, but my son’s hair was quite long and it was late on Sunday.

Different experience this time. Lots of young Vietnamese hair stylists working there — all talking non-stop in Vietnamese to each other Not a lot of customer interaction, which includes only one question about how short I wanted my hair cut. Turned out a bit too short.

I have long, Asian hair, so I was encouraged to see that the folks here were all Asian(I’ve had some bad experiences with non-Asian hairdressers who don’t know wtf to do with my hair, and screwed it up). I hadn’t had a haircut for about 8 months, so my locks were starting to look a bit gnarly. I got Tanya, and I’m very happy with my cut! She didn’t over-layer it – my previous hairdresser had used the razor a bit too much to thin it out. She takes her time(in a good way), and used a flat iron to make it sleeker. My hair looks fuller and healthier now! I’ll be coming here again. P. S. Cost was reasonable: $ 30 + $ 5 tip.

I definitely do not agree with the reviews. I went in for a haircut as a walk-in. I got Brian. The haircut I received was just a basic layer cut which is the first thing you learn in Beauty School. And it wasn’t a great one. I think he thought I wouldn’t notice the careless attention he was giving it. Pretty much I got the same thing I would have gotten from a Student cut. He cut my hair like he was racing against time, he rushed the shampoo and he rushed the cutting process and for no reason because there wasn’t anyone else waiting nor any walk-ins coming by. These are not pro’s and you won’t get a quality cut here. They don’t master the shears like the pros do.(I’ve been going the guys at Rebelle and man they’re good! They were busy on this day so I came here) Brian had my flexibility to do what he wanted with my hair he could have done anything and got creative. I wanted something trendy, funky, and cool. Instead the basic student layer cut and I came out looking 10 years older with the way he styled. I hate the poofy big round brush blow dries. Anyway. don’t expect quality but if you are just looking for a decent trim or just a basic haircut… then this is the place but for that type of service it’s half the price at SuperCuts or BetterClips. The price of a haircut here: $ 30 plus tip =$ 35.

I went to BetterCuts recently after about 7 months of not cutting my hair. I had a not so great experience at a different salon and my hair was a mess. My once beautiful curls were dead and my hair was no longer shiny. My sisters have gotten their hair cut with my Brian so I tried an appointment with him. He wasn’t available so I scheduled one with Han. Like I said, I had a bad experience a few months earlier so I was nervous. I told Han about my situation and he said no problem. He listened to what I wanted and made it happen! He didn’t talk much and he spent his time making sure every last strand was perfect. I am really happy with the results and will be going back.

I love Better Cuts!!! It’s close to where I live and the service is great!!! The guys that work there are super friendly and professional and the salon is clean and elegant in it’s simplicity. There’s never a long wait, and both walk ins and scheduled appointments are welcomed. I used to HATE getting a hair cut, mostly because the result was never what I wanted, and now I LOVE it!!! It’s probably partially because I have a mohwak which I’m having a lot of fun with, but also thanks to Better Cuts, because they care about the end result just as much as I do. The staff helped me find just the right products to style my hair at home as well! And whenever someone asks me what I use, to make my mohawk so cool looking, I tell them to go and check out Super Cuts in Alameda — they will take care of you, no matter what look you’re going for!

I had a wedding to go to, hair that made me look like Chewbacca, and I knew: it’s time to get a haircut. After coffee at the adjacent Starbucks, I ducked in, was promptly shown a seat, and then asked, «How would you like your hair cut?» Frankly, what I got wasn’t what I expected. The stylist even commented, «It’s a different look, right? I’ll show you how to make it look nice.» That would worry some people, but not me. I’m all for change and novelty, even when it’s at the potential expense of my dignity and image. It wasn’t what I was used to, but in the ensuing days(even hours) I’ve gotten enough compliments and comments from friends that have made me think, «This is alright.»: * I like the new direction! * The young and hip look… nice! * That looks good on you! * Let me take a picture and Twitter this * You’re doing something different and I like it * You need more clothes to fit the cool new look! * You look like a dork. About that ratio. And seeing as how the last one came from my wife(who’s eternally mine), it’s a ratio I’m quite comfortable with. On another note, prices are cheap right now since it’s a Grand Opening.
