Angela’s has reopened at 1640 Park St. I updated the address and phone, but Unilocal hasn’t verified it yet. Try the mezze, it’s excellent. and the chocolate mouse is heavenly.

Sorry, this and their most recent incarnations are a failure. They have really gone down hill since their move to Park Street area. These people seem to have lost focus. Spotty service, food is not unique or special. Specially not a good value for the money. Regretfully, off my list.

hoity toity place in alameda. The food was ok. The bread was warm and crunchy with their spicy dipping sauce was good. I had a burger and it was just a regular burger. It was their kobe style burger which i asked for medium rare, came out well done. French fries were just ok as well. Was worth a try but won’t come back most likely. I filled up on bread because otherwise I would have starved.

We headed out to the movies and decided to stop at Angela’s for appetizers. They were amazing as usual and our bar tender Erin, new in town, made a great drink. She was great at her job, fun to talk to and got us out in time for the movie. Thanks again to Angela’s for being an important player in the downtown Alameda experience. We are so lucky to have you.

I have been going to this place for quite a while — I meet up here with girlfriends before a show at the theater, have a drink and a nosh and while the food is tasty, and the drinks also are decent, the service has gone down hill the last couple of years… there used to be staff that were engaging as well as on top of their game. meaning they remembered what you ordered and brought it in a timely fashion. the bartender often is the one who would manage the bar area with the occasional bus person. Today we had a bartender that seemed scattered, a hostess who didn’t know quite what they were doing, a bus person who was on it, and then a wait person who showed up at the tail end to try and get them out of the weeds. all of that in about 45 minutes. We had to order things several times as our orders were not communicated and since there were so many people involved, it was hard to figure out who to actually talk to… I like the food, and I used to love the staff… the review should be 2.5 stars as the service is about 1.5 stars and the food a solid 4…

A great disappointment. We’ve dined here three times before, but only ordered off the appetizer and drinks menu. Found ourselves there at dinner time. Big mistake. The hostess gave us «the best seat in the house.» Guess she was kidding, since they sat us next to the server prep station, so we had watch staffers fetch things for the duration. The risotto was undercooked. Not al dente, but teeth crunching. When we told the server, she replied«that’s the way we prepare it.» Some escalation later, they removed the dish and brought some butternut squash. 4 meager slices. Too-sweet sauce. The much-hyped Kobe beef meatballs had so much pepper they killed your taste buds. What a waste of beautiful product. Dessert? No thanks. We didn’t want to run the risk of further culinary mishap. On a busy Saturday night, Angela’s was the only restaurant or coffee place near Park Street that had available seats, and I know why. Sad.

This review is for Angela’s Bar only. Homegirl and I stopped by for a happy hour drink before heading over to the CMYE at Subpar on Monday evening. The bar area was actually pretty packed… mostly older folks who seemed like regulars. The bartenders were busy shaking up the cocktails and chatting with the patrons at the bar. We sat at one of the tables near the flatscreen tv, which was showing some March Madness game. One of the waiters/bartenders came over to tell us the specials which were $ 4 margaritas, half off all well drinks, wines, and the $ 5 appetizer of the day which was a flatbread. The featured happy hour cocktail was a berry mojito for half off the regular price coming out to $ 5. Gf and I both got that. It was good. Service was fine. I think I’d only be more inclined to return for happy hour if they had more food choices though.

I dined here recently and am an instant fan! I couldn’t have felt more welcome! I was pleasantly surprised with the menu, but what I truly remember about Angelas is the warm and inviting service from both the hostess as well as our server! Consider me a new regular!

Eh. Just eh. With a side of eh… Lack of service(on a sunny, summer day, with hardly any patrons) and not enough umph! in my cesar salad is enough for me to give a lukewarm review for this place. The one thing I do absolutely love is the Alameda Vinter’s section next door which you can go to after having an average meal at Angela’s. The tasting venue seems to open up some business for Angela’s and rightly so, since their food lacks some pizazz and service. If you do eat at Angela’s I recommend sampling from their appetizer menu next door as that seems to receive more clout than their actual restaurant. I really hope they change their menu a bit and train their servers on checking back on customers and smiling a lot more.

Came in here and it was decent. The service was good… our server came over numerous times to check on us. We never had to ask for more bread or water. The salads are decent The Salmon BLT was good Everyone who ordered the lasagna thought it was reasonable. Prices are a tad steep for the portions but overall a convenient place to grab a bite to eat.

This is definitely one of Alameda’s nicest restaurants. I’d like it more if they offered more vegetarian options but there’s only one entrée — a polenta dish — and a couple of appetizers. On my recent visit there I shared the Afghan bread appetizer. It’s stuffed with peas, leaks, and something else I can’t remember and it comes with a dipping sauce that is minty. It’s quite good. Service is good… friendly wait staff. They are engaged in the community and sponsor wine fundraisers for various organizations throughout the city.

I stayed away for almost a year due to a bad dining experience. Waitstaff was terrible, food … needed updating and a little pizzazz. Well my best buddy and I were going to watch a movie on Saturday and dropped in. The«Finnish Line» martini was to die for! They changed the menu and we had the short rib sliders with pommegrante bbq sauce and salad and few other appetizers. They were really good! The bad. We were first seated in the lounge at a table next to the bar. All was well until a group of people came in, not enough seats for the them at the bar and we had to endure having behinds, purses in our faces while trying to drink. Their merriment was way too loud and management never came over to direct them to tables. This was 15 people! Anyway. I went back yesterday. I needed to shop and had no need to cook at home, sooo why not have those wonderful sliders and a Finnish Line drink?! The place was relatively empty. Happy Hour began at 4pm and it was 4:45pm when I sat down. The waiter took my order and the drink was lovely, but the sliders were not. Stale bun, no bbq sauce that it marinated in on Saturday. After he spent his time talking to his friends in the corner he finally came over to me and I mentioned the lack of sauce. «I’ll check with the kitchen». He came back and said that the cook will take care of it. He never took my plate. 10 minutes later, again only after finishing his conversation with his friends in the corner, he went to the kitchen and brought back a little dish of greasy, not bbq-y sauce. Oh, I am the one who has to correct my now cold dish with stale bun. I cut one of the sliders in half and tried to sop some of the sauce. It was not the same as the night before and I have a problem with the fact the dish was not prepared correctly and was not taken back to the kitchen for correction. After his third conversation with the now loud friends in the corner, he passed by my table and saw that I had only eaten half a slider and some of the salad. He asked if I wanted a box and I told him no. Then I had his attention. He asked if I liked the dish and I said no, it was not prepared correctly and did not taste the same as it did on Saturday. ‘Ok, I will take it off the bill.” I have had enough. There are too many places that are fighting for business that will serve good food and insist on good service.

As a local, I don’t relish giving a downer review of what should be a delightful and delicious restaurant. But, I’ve now been there 3 times and have been disappointed each time. In a nutshell: service is on the slow side portions are small prices are too high for what you get food quality is uneven On the other hand it’s right near the movie theater and parking garage. My suggestion: sit the bar for drinks and apps rather than splurge for a full dinner.

Perma-date and I had been meaning to try this place for a while. I only wish I had checked the Unilocal reviews before going — My fellow Unilocalers never steer me wrong! So, in an attempt to pay it forward, here goes … First, the positives(let’s not take ourselves too seriously, it’s dinner — there’s always a positive) — the location is great! A couple doors down from Alameda’s movie theater and right next to the parking garage — makes for an easy, hassle-free date-night. Yay! Now, for the rest of it. So, we arrived 5 mins late for our reservation time — my bad, totally my fault. Our sentence — we had to wait 20 minutes for a table, even though there were plenty of open tables. Whatever. The game was on, we watched the A’s blow it. Ok — onto the food. So, the bread is served with what the waitress described as a «chutney» as she ran away from the table after plopping it down. The bread looked like it was going to be yummy a focaccia-style bread and the«chutney» looked like it was going to be a yummy pesto-style dip. WRONG. The bread was dry and boring and the«chutney» was … I don’t know … all I tasted was vinegar. The Hubs and I shared the Arugula Beet salad. I get it. The chef saw this combo somewhere before — peppery arugula, roasted beets, goat cheese, walnuts and citrus. Should work, right? Wrong. The execution was amateur at best. The aforementioned ingredients just plopped on a plate. The arugula wasn’t dressed. Not even a drizzle of really good olive oil, which can often save the day. The walnuts weren’t seasoned. And the beets, I’m not totally convinced they didn’t come from a can. Hubby ordered the chicken breast, that was described as being stuffed with prosciutto and cheese. It was served along side carrots and green beans. The plate was hot as hades — pretty sure it sat under the pass for a while. The chicken looked like someone beat the s*** out of it. The carrots were no longer carrots because they probably cooked three more times by sitting on that hot plate. I ordered the risotto. I like risotto. Then I looked around and noticed something. Each and every table was packed with senior citizens. And they all had the risotto. Ok — I get it. This bland bowl of mush — perfect for peeps who need bland bowls of mush. Hubby just saw the review and said — a lot of words for something so bland. True that. So, if you’re over 65, like to wear teeshirts and socks w/sandals to dinner, and enjoy the BevMo 1 cent sale wines — Angela’s is your place. If you like a good pre-movie dinner with good service, go to Pappo across the street!

We decided to come here on a Friday afternoon to take advantage of their happy hour specials. They had several drink specials and one happy hour appetizer special. The bar appetizer special changes everyday. We ordered one of these happy hour appetizer specials which was this margarita pizza. It was not good considering we could see the prepackged dough sitting at the counter. My friend decided to order a shrimp risotto which I had the pleasure of sampling. It was actually pretty good which some nice looking shrimp to accompany the dish. Their daily drink special was a gin gimlet. It was pretty good considering it was only $ 5. Also, I had a bourbon margarita which was only $ 4 during happy hour. You cannot go wrong with alcohol at this place, although their bar appetizer special may be suspect. I would not recommend their pizza.

Before you get discouraged by reading this, let me preface my review with: if you’re older than 50 or have never been to a truly 4 or 5 star eating establishment, you may have a great experience here. Food: way too salty for my less-than-30 year old taste buds. Side dishes were also very random. The salmon comes with smoked peas with a few whole asparagus buried underneath… and cloves? Service: overbearing. Waitress talked really loud and was overly attentive. Ambiance: indoors is pretty 2001 kitsch. Long, awkward dining floor. We sat next to a service station. Outdoor patio looks nice though. Live jazz on the weekends. Sorry for the meh, but oh we’ll.

Came here for a graduation dinner… the food was AITE. lol. the hor d’oeurves were gross. hahaha sorry. i didnt expect like that cheese. iono it just wasnt very good. i didnt like it at all. haha. i wish there was somethign else to munch on. so heres was my dinner… lol Cocktail — Mango Mojito — it was ok… not the best. but it was ok… i didnt really taste the Mango. and the mojito looked like swamp… too much mint i think. Appetizer — duck strudel… it was OK. not that good. very salty. i like the flaky crust. but the inside was ehhhhhhhhhh. Entrée — Prime Rib — it was kinda tasteless— and the meat wasnt all that tender… it just wasnt very appetizing to tell you the truth, but since i was hungry. i finished it(the salmon was good tho, i tried my cousins, so maybe you guys shuld get that instead) dessert — crème brûlée — i think i can make better crème brûlée… haha. and other guests said that the chocolate mousse had a weird texture to it… lol… the panna cotta wasnt bad tho! so all in all. the food is just mediocre… wayyyy to pricey for the quality. i probably wont come back here… lol. i dont have all that money to spend on mediocre food. =]

Decent lunch in a noisy but pleasant, light-filled space. Angela’s has an interesting menu, supplementing the usual bistro sandwich/pasta menu with some unexpected dishes. The chef is Afghani, so there is a Boulanee(Bolani) on the menu, the flat vegetarian-stuffed wheat tortilla-like bread often sold at farmers’ markets around the East Bay, as well as kebabs offered under the Entrée section. The bread that comes to the table is an unsplit yeasted flatbread, and it’s served with a tart, vinegary parsley-garlic purée. We both started with soup — his mushroom bisque was creamy but a bit too salty. But the house soup, described without flair as «market vegetables, beans, chicken stock and fresh herbs», was a delightful, fresh tomato-based broth with fresh spinach leaves wilted on top, white beans, and the unexpected lift of chopped fresh dill in addition to the more usual parsley. Nor was it oversalted, which was even better. Roast beef sandwich was on flatbread, so larger than expected. Beef was sliced thin, not piled overly high but extremely tasty, much better than the usual salt-and-pepper-and-that’s-all deli beef. Sole Florentine was lovely, a classic that deserves to be brought back when it’s as well done as this was. Angela’s isn’t the destination restaurant that Pappo’s can be(when Pappo’s is «on», that is) but it’s relatively inexpensive and a pleasant place with good service. Weekly menu specials are a notable bargain — a different entrée for $ 9 each day at lunch, or a pre fixe three course dinner for $ 23. And although the quantity is not exceedingly generous, the quality and skill do make up for it. The menu isn’t large, yet manages to offer an interesting variety of dishes to appeal to almost any group of diners.

Angela’s bistro was at webster street jam with a food booth. menu: sloppy mole sandwich(3), mango lemonade(2) sampling: sloppy mole sandwich(3) reduced from 4. –smashed chicken sausage, with sharp cheddar cheese and argula on a cold bun. *plenty bland sammie, bun should have been toasted or warmed. foodnotes: –no one in line, –mango lemonade made with mango purée. ewwww. not so original. –hope mole isn’t typical of angela’s fare, otherwise, my curiosity about cured. –friendly, pushy service.(lemoneade. no thanx).

Took Google Guy here last night before the Michael Buble concert — it was a Tuesday so it wasn’t as packed(yet). Got seated and received service right away. I of course had their mango mojito(though I like the first one I had for brunch — it was a lot stronger!) then for dinner, I ordered their stuffed chicken. I wasn’t expecting much with my chicken but I was highly surprised when I first had a bite! It was delicious. I didn’t think it was dry, it was cooked right and the portion was perfect. Google Guy ordered the French Side Car, salad and the shrimp with risotto. I didn’t taste his food(I’m not quite there yet with him =)) but I think he liked it since he finished it. Overall, I think their brunch menu had more options than their dinner. BUT that doesn’t mean I’m not going here again… I’m just saying. The prices and service is good so I can’t complain.
