Always a great time! Best place on the lakes. The only bad thing is the kitchen is too small. But the food is good.

What happened to Howie’s food! They just recently changed their kitchen. I don’t know if they hired an outside company to run it or what. The food was so bad and the old lady taking our order was just rude and put out. I never had a bad experience with their food for years. Howie’s bring back the old cook and kitchen, not worth the 30 minute drive anymore

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a bar with a more confusing location. Howie’s is a lake bar. It’s right on Turkeyfoot Lake, and it’s popular with boaters. However, other bars that are popular with boaters — The Deck, On Tap, Bob’s, and Dietz’s, to name a few — are at least on major roads. Just getting to Howie’s by car is an adventure. Only locals know how to get there — go down a residential street, then turn left down a narrow one way residential street past lakeside homes and you’ll eventually get there. Confusing, isn’t it? Howie’s is not as crowded as The Deck, not as pricey as On Tap, and not as dive-y as Bob’s Lakeside Bar. It’s simply an average bar known for their burgers. I’ve only had their shrimp, and it was fabulous. Howie’s, as I hinted earlier, has its regulars and doesn’t really lure many new«regulars» in. Most of their business comes via boat, particularly around the 4th of July. The beer selection is average priced and they have a very average selection. They use iPads to cash out credit cards, which I thought was neat. Howie’s is not the best bar in the world, but certainly not the worst. It is the best bar in New Franklin not on 619, although that’s not saying much.
