We stumbled upon this place and are SO glad we did. The sandwiches are AMAZING. Truly the best sandwhich bread I have ever had in my life… so soft and light with a touch of sweetness. Be sure to try the papaya seed dressing, which also adds just a hint of sweetness. The sandwhiches are huge and you more than get your moneys worth. Unfortunately I live in Alabama and wont be back to Aloha Subs any time soon, and I’m ruined for all other sandwiches. But next time I’m in Oahu, I know where I’ll be eating!!!

Always passed by this place and didn’t actually try until a friend brought me here. I’ve never tried any other sub places other than Subway and I gotta say, I’ll probably never go Subway again if this place is my other option. I got the Adam Sando(their subs are named after famous people and beaches), the number 1 sub on their menu. Don’t really remember what meat was inside but the papaya seed dressing is a must!

Found this gem of a place after a day exploring the Swap Meet. We knew we wanted something cool to eat as it was so warm walking all day. To Unilocal I went in search of nearby food and Aloha Subs popped up. We made a quick dash as it was 2pm and they closed at 3pm and we were extremely happy we did! The subs were so fresh and the bread very soft. I was a deer in headlights with all the choices but quickly decided. The papaya seed dressing was really amazing and brought out the flavours but kept it light and local tasting. I also enjoyed the alfalfa sprouts which is a unique topping where I’m from. The gentleman who served us(maybe the owner) was super friendly and showed obvious pride in the business. Hoping to make another stop before I head home. I wish I had one of these at home!

I accidentally ran into this place while going to the pharmacy here near aiea bowl. Went back to my car and I was like,“hmm never seen this place before?” Then I went in. I got the HI5 – 0 and the BJ Penn, I was super hungry and they were super good. More veggies than I anticipated which I like and that papaya sauce made the sandwich more tasty. The workers were friendly. I keep seeing pics of the Adam Sando on Unilocal which I’ll get next time. Looks good too. Place is Better than subway that’s for sure.

Damn that’s some goooood Sandwich!!! The customer service experience was delightful… The lady that worked the register was so easy to talk to about suggestions and gave good responses to the questions I had about the sandwich… The location is a little tucked away, however, the store is not inconvenient, lots of parking. Aloha Sub in Aiea is located on the middle floor of the Aiea shopping mall– a level below Aiea Bowling Alley/The Alley– right between Koa’s Pancake House and Ice Garden. So you can park on the upper or lower levels because there are stairs and an escalator to take you on the middle floor. The SANDWICH… I gottah break this down because every element of the sub was like an art form. I had the«Rueben» and the«Tow In» sandwich. Let me start with the Rueben, I used the regular sub bread instead of the rye, the bread was nice, soft, juicy and flavorful. Biting into the bread felt like a newly baked bread that just cooked off. If I could compare the taste it would it was better then a loves bakery dinner roll because of its moist texture. The PASTRAMI they use for the sandwiches was of really awesome quality, lean with no stringy pieces. The sauerkraut was really fresh and not processed. The sauce was not overbearing or dull to the tongue, it was a burst of correct flavor. Now the Tow In the bread was the same as the Rueben but the meats within this sandwich felt fresh and tasty. The veggies on this bad boy was also fresh and the amount of each veggie put in there was perfect. The sauce complemented the whole sandwich. Each bite from both sandwiches was HELLAGOOD… Gotta try this place there is so much to choose from.

Currently waiting 50 minutes for my sandwich. That means they take about 5 minutes each sandwich because there’s only been about ten out. I could’ve driven to better food in Kailua and back by now…

These subs are freaking awesome! Bit pricey and a bit slow, but I figured it’s made with love, which taste amazing. Will be coming back.

Options are fairly limited when you’re in Aiea and I was so excited when I heard there was an Aloha Sub in my parents’ hood! My hubby and I ordered a 16″ Alligator sub to share which is our usual pick at other Aloha Subs. THEGOOD: This is a fantastic sandwich to share with the one you love. I was initially concerned about whether or not it would be as good as the other Aloha Sub we’ve gone to before but the quality and the bread were the same. My husband finished his half in one sitting but it took me three sittings to finish my half over a two day period. 8″ of meat filled subtastic ecstasy is a lot for me! THEBAD: Pricing on the extras such as chips and pickles. $ 1.50 for a small bag of chips and $ 1.99 for a pickle. I know you’re a small business but almost $ 2 for a pickle seems like you’re trying to squeeze me. I am upset because I REALLYLOVE pickles. But purely on principle I cannot pay $ 2 for a damn pickle when I am already paying $ 16 for a sandwich. Let me break it down for you: Sandwich + chips + pickle = Heaven on Earth As you can see above I cannot create heaven on Earth without ALL of the aforementioned ingredients. You are denying my from having heaven. Or wait, if we look at this philosophically did I just deny myself from having heaven on Earth and in order to stop my own suffering I just need to pony up the damn $ 2? Mind. Blown. NOTE: While writing this review I’ve decided that next time I go to Aloha Sub I am going to go to Times downstairs and buy a gigantic bag of potato chips and an entire giant jar of pickles so that I can heaven on Earth my face off while eating my $ 16 Aloha Sub sandwich. Thank you, suffering ended.

This place is so original and just killing it with the Hawaii names all over their cute little restaurant. I could see the young lady in the back cutting my deli meat to make my sandwich. TALKABOUTFRESH! It’s an open restaurant you can see the magic working from the register. The feel to this restaurant is old fashion but yet it has this fun kick, this hot feeling of the ocean beach in each of the sandwiches. Must try the Jaws(delish!) my favorite!

They ran out of hoagies, so I got sliced wheat. Acceptable, but not quite as good. Also did not have the banana peppers. The employee was nice. Am happy to have gotten my fix. Don’t forget the check in offer.

They ran out of sub bread. This is unacceptable for a place named aloha sub. The replacement was sliced wheat bread. The cashier was on the phone when we entered and took a couple of minutes to take our order. She was however friendly. The location is tiny. I sat at one of the two tables there. There was a puddle of old sandwich juice on the table. On the tv, was playing some kids show starring Hillary Duff. There was an attempt at xmas decorations on the wall which gave it a nice feel because they at least tried. The sandwich(not sub) was ok. Part of the allure of aloha sub is their soft hoagie bread. Without it, it’s not the same. One slice of bacon per half sandwich. This place pales in comparison to the Aloha sub in Kapolei. I would not come back.

I’m not a huge fan of sub sandwiches, but maybe that’s because I haven’t found one that I absolutely love… until now. I was visiting another establishment in the vicinity and happened to walk past and then after a quick debate in my head, did a u-turn and told myself I would try it out. Cashier was extremely nice and helpful recommending some of the most popular ones. Being I don’t care for Bologna and pastrami(and avocados), I settled on the Cloud Break. She asked what I wanted in my sandwich and was extremely patient as this picky eater had to ask her to repeat the add-ons so I could make sure the sandwich was just right. I wasn’t sure what dressing to put(especially since I love my vinegar/oil and they didn’t have it) but she highly recommended the papaya seed dressing. Ok, sure, why not. I have to see what everyone loves about it! Fast forward to taking my first bite, and then the second bite and then… well you get the picture. Bread was super soft(!!!), sandwich is HUGE, and it tastes delicious! She was sure right about the Papaya seed dressing! YUM! And bonus star for having sprouts!!! I love those in my sandwich! Will I go back? Definitely! Not even a hesitation. Goodbye Subway. Hello Aloha Sub.

The sub sandwiches are very delicious. Highly recommended. Also tried the cookies there. Made by Kawa Kookies. The mac choc chips and the Peanut butter are ok. But cookies I think have too much oil or something. An after taste in my mouth was surely not choc chip or Mac nut.

Who doesn’t love a good sandwich?!? I wanted to grab a quick bite after work and decided to try Aloha sub again. This is the second time I’ve been here. The staff is friendly and my sandwich is always fresh. I ordered the Adam Sando and it was delicious. I love the papaya seed dressing that they use and the bread is really soft. Aloha sub blows subway out of the water!!! These sandwiches are huge. I ordered a half and couldn’t even finish it. It’s a great bang for my buck. I will defiantly be back :) Make sure you check in when you get here they offer 10% off specialty subs.

Surprise, surprise… we were looking for a place to grab a quick bite when my Chinese food eating hubby mentioned his tastebuds were craving for a hoagie or submarine sandwich. I quickly whipped out my Unilocal app and found my bookmark for Aloha Sub. I had read outstanding reviews for this locally owned business from Darrell P and Emi H(Kalihi location) and Kathy A for this site. So, I co-piloted us to the Aiea Shopping Center. Aloha Sub Aiea is located on the same level as Roast Duck Kitchen and McDonalds. There is usually a lot of parking but beware of those parking stalls located near the lot entrance as they’re often restricted and a security guard routinely roams the area. Fortunately, Aloha Sub faces out to the parking lot so can’t miss it. Walking into this shop, we were greeted by friendly greeting of «Aloha» and asked if we’ve been to Aloha Sub before. This was our first time and the menu was rather extensive. All of the sandwiches are named after local surf spots. The menu described 2 sizes of sandwiches were available… ½ sandwich is 8″ or full sandwich is 16″. Then we had to select our choice of bread and condiments. From Darrell P’s review, I was tempted to order the 8″ Jaws and split it with my husband since the sandwich was described as humongous and packed with all kinds of sammie goodness. But, before I could say anything, my husband started ordering a full size Alligator Rock on Aloha Sub’s «signature» submarine loaf. The Alligator Rock was 16″ full of pepperoni, pastrami and salami then layered with provolone cheese(our cheese choice) and topped with fresh shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes. We got a squeeze of papaya seed dressing which didn’t seem like it would work with the Italian meat selections but it complimented the whole sandwich. The next time we return, I’ll make sure that I rush in and order before my husband. I want to try the other selections since we were pleased with our Alligator Rock… um, so far, we’ve been there twice and he’s ordered the same! #353

I’m a fan with a few caveats. First, the good points. The franchise owner is friendly and helpful. Definitely a pleasure to talk with and ask for suggestions. Their default bread is a white sub roll, which does not sound too impressive, but it tastes better than any other sandwich shop’s bread I’ve had here or on the mainland(sorry, Capriotti’s). The papaya seed dressing is really good. Get it no matter what else is in your sandwich. Sandwiches are made to order so you don’t have to worry about soggy bread. Now for the caveats. The parking is hit or miss. At some times, there is a lot of parking while at other times, there is none to be found. Made-to-order sandwiches take more time than pre-made, of course, so if there is a line, plan on spending some time waiting for theirs to get made then for yours to get made. The standard serving size for their meats is 1 oz. per half sub, which is about what Subway budgets and ½ of what Safeway uses. So, if you’re feeling carnivorous, order extra meats. This wouldn’t be such a problem but their bread is larger than Subway loaves so a 5 meat sub from Aloha Sub would probably have around the same concentration of meats as a Subway BMT or Club sandwich.

Ordered two sandwiches to go, picked up some groceries downstairs, then came back up to grab our order. Ordering was easy, the young lady at the counter was thorough in taking the order and noting preferences. Sandwiches were ready promptly. Unfortunately, when we got home, we found that items were missing. Um, Adam Sando is the signature sandwich, and main ingredients are listed as turkey, bacon, and avocado. No avocado was inside. Disappointment. Alligator was our other pick, and it was yummy, but I’m not entirely sure that there was pastrami in that one. Pepperoni and salami were easy to see, but the amount of meat was kind of scant, and the flavor of pastrami was not there. Opted for light papaya seed dressing, as a previous reviewer suggested, and that made it perfect. It’s still early, they’ve only been open for a short while, but I just hope they get the ingredients right from now on.

Five stars for the new kid in town! Stopped in after shopping in PC and we were trying to decide what’s for lunch. Hey let’s try Aloha Subs? Where is it? By Micky D’s! Okay we on it. 8 or 16 inch subs. Yummy soft bread, nice meats, fresh veggies and many choices and popular choices. One Meatball with provolone cheese for Mui! One Makaha for Rob. One Kelly Slater for Keith and one naked Kelly Slater for Wes who likes nothing on his sandwiches but meat and cheese. He’s growing up so fast and no longer drenches everything in Ketchup. The sandwiches were super. Didn’t think I’d eat the whole thing but I did and wished I got the 16 incher so I’d still have half for tomorrow’s lunch. Everyone proclaimed their sammies were awesome. Keith said this was the best sub sandwich he has ever had which was saying a lot because he will drive across the island go try a new sub place. Already thinking what a find for football Sundays. The owner is up front and personable and carefully watching the girls putting the sandwiches together. A little slow yet on the making of the sammies but I’m sure they will get up to spear shortly. Very busy. This place will do well, they will get our business!
