This particular Jo-Ann store is pretty sad… it shares a parking lot with an old Dairy Queen and it’s not terribly visible from the street. However, it’s the only fabric store anywhere close to the city(besides Paste, but that’s more of a knitter/scrapbooker store), so that’s where I have to go when I’m working on a craft project. This week it’s a bacon costume. No really, I’m having some friends help me make a bacon costume. Who doesn’t love bacon, right? Rather than buy some overpriced, pre-made outfit that looks like crap(trust me, I did some online research before diving into a custom made bacon suit), I found it best to just buck up and make my own costume. Here’s what you need if you decide to make your own bacon suit: — Artistic friends — Foam — Acrylic paint — Velcro — Hot glue/hot glue gun — X-acto knife All of the above can be found at Jo-Ann’s(minus the artistic friends… but I bet you could make some friends at the store!). Foam and velcro are especially pricey, so I’d go in there armed with coupons. Apparently they have a 40% off online coupon(which I was too lazy to print out — d’oh!), which comes in handy when buying foam at 29.99 per sheet. The service is OK. Not terrible, not great. But they’re nice enough for a little fabric store in Afton. All in all, it’s an A-OK kind of place — definitely deserving of 3 stars. The bacon costume is almost finished and I can’t wait to show it off this weekend at the Schlafly Brew & Q Championships. Hope to see you there!
