Great brisket with all the sauce you could think of. A great place to go for live music & you can’t beat the service.

Every time I’ve been to Bone Fire, whether to grab some drinks after Wolf Hills closes or for a date night, it’s been excellent. This particular visit I got the turkey, brisket, mac & cheese, & corn fritters. The turkey & corn fritters were outstanding. The BBQ sauce bar offers great variety for people of various tastes. Would definitely recommend Bone Fire to anyone for great local food & drinks.

Let me start out by saying I have been to this restaurant once and tried one thing — so I think my 2 stars may be a little unfair to Bone Fire. However, both my wife and I had the smoked chicken and it was dry to the point of being difficult to swallow. I know white meat chicken can be difficult to keep moist but it can be done and an establishment that specializes in such fare should be able to do so. The chicken itself gets one star. A few other minor complaints: we got collard greens and they were sweet. Maybe that is a local thing but it was strange to me. And finally, the cornbread was sweet. I know some folks like it this way but I don’t. It’s not desert and to me it shouldn’t be sweet. On the positive– the other sides were good and service was very good.

Everything we tried was fantastic. I’d put this place on my list of best Q in the country. Any time I go up I81 I will need to make a detour and stop in.

We stumbled upon Abingdon, Va and Bone Fire Smokehouse! What a delight. Food was excellent! Especially the ¼ pound Smoked dark chicken– fell off the bone, moist. Corn bread is sweet, sides were good. We will make this a destination on our recurring trips from Pittsburgh to Toccoa, Ga.

They make their sandwich rolls from scratch and their pulled pork was very good for Virginia BBQ. Wish they had fries as a side instead of chips, but I can’t complain. They also have an assortment of sauces mixed with fruits and spices and peppers to give the sandwiches a unique flavor.

Love bonefire but they have cockroaches. Noticed them while eating New Years night. Brushed it off, went back again a few months later and they are still there. A former employee left because they were so bad.

All fresh made in house great sauces best mac & cheese I’ve had. The brisket was very tender and paired well with the Peachotle sauce. The ribs while delicious were a bit dry. I have a feeling I had yesterday’s product. Their corn fritters are unique and not what you would expect, but delicious nonetheless. A great beer and bourbon selection and friendly staff make it a very worthwhile detour if traveling the 81 corridor in Virginia.

Some local friends took us here and as soon as you walk in a delicious smell of smoked bbq hits you. The atmosphere is really cool as it used to be an old hardware store. There was also excellent live music playing. I had the smoked turkey and pulled pork with the corn fritters that were amazing. None of the meats come with sauce as there is sauce bar where you pick your own. The prices are reasonable and next time we are in town we’ll be back!

I used to love this place. Has gone WAY downhill! Service is terrible, Mac n cheese is obviously from a box, and I am pretty sure ribs are boiled. Used to have whole smoked wings, now have«wingettes» for the same price. I know the restaurant biz is tough, but when owners are sitting at the bar on their butts drinking beer, it makes me wonder if they even care. By the way, I have been to Bonefire many, many times. I WILLNOT go back.

Comfortable atmosphere, phenomenal food, great beers, and very nice and attentive waitstaff. The cornbread fritters are the best I’ve ever had and their pulled pork is amazing with lots of options for sauces. I am about to move here and plan to come here frequently.

OMG — this place is the BOMB. Where do I start? The barbecue sauce? The fact you can get it in individual portions? The awesome décor with vintage metal signs and brick walls? The friendly staff? Answer is –it’s ALL good. I had the pulled chicken with greens and Mac and cheese, and tried three of the sauces. It was more than enough, but I left wanting so much more. In short: I don’t know when I can’t get back, living in Michigan — but I WILL be back.

I ate here with my family(husband and two teenage boys) after a long day biking The Creeper Trail. This place had a great menu at reasonable prices. I ordered the smoked chicken and sampled several sauces from the bar to go with it. My favorite was the Peach chipotle. Yum! The grit cakes were delicious. They had a great selection of local beers on draft. I got the Devil’s Backbone and enjoyed it. There was a little mix up with our order of fried pickles and our waitress was apologetic and attentive. I appreciated her dedication to make it right! And those pickles were fantastic. This is a great laid-back place to have a good meal in a warm, inviting atmosphere. I highly recommend!

WOW! Bone Fire delivers in every dimension. This place is what every hipster bbq place in DC is trying to be. Smoked turkey was smooth and smoky. Pulled pork needed more help from the sauce, but the sauces all delivered: fruity and spicy, tending toward the liquid side. The corn fritters and macaroni & cheese are musts. The beers on tap were all high quality microbrews: Bold Rock, Anchor, Devils Backbone, Founders, etc. The music is folk and old-timey. There was a good crowd at 11:30 on Sunday morning.

If I could rate the food and service, this place would get 3 stars. The meats we got(ribs and pulled pork) were a bit dry but nothing the unique sauces couldn’t help. The fried green tomatoes appetizer was amazing! Huge slices that were battered individually. I didn’t really like the green beans(mushy) but the broccoli salad was really crunchy, sweet, and tangy. Our server was friendly and replaced my iced tea with a fresh one when the first glass was cloudy and skunky-tasting. The décor was cute and thematic for a BBQ place in an old hardware store. However, the overall atmosphere at this place made our dining experience pretty upsetting. I know that a visibly homosexual couple entering a restaurant in southern Virginia should probably be prepared for some surprised looks, but come on, people, really? It’s 2015. We are used to being«out» and«noticed» but this was beyond what could be considered typical. 90% of the families dining in the restaurant seemed perfectly lovely but the few people who stared at us the entire time we were there made us really uncomfortable. The women’s restroom was labeled«sows» which is pretty gross(but okay, you’re going for a BBQ theme, I get it, ha-ha, you’re funny) and then to top it all off there was a blatantly racist sign on the restroom door. It was a picture of a Native American woman and the word«squaw» written in huge letters. I will not be back.

There’s nothing, NOTHING you should not like about from this place. Seriously you gotta be insane or used to very specific style of food. I loved everything. Absolutely everything. People, place, location, FOOD! Everything :) So glad a local friend suggested me to come here.

The best BBQ of my life! I had the pick two meats platter with pulled chicken and smoked turkey. Both meats were perfectly cooked and tasted amazing with the five different sauces. My favorite sauce was the Memphis BBQ sauce while my hubby like the blueberry one. The sides also aimed to please. We couldn’t stop eating the cornbread with a touch of sweetness it had. Start your meal with some chicken wings too good to even dip in sauce! My hubby’s beef brisket was awesome!

Good BBQ, good price. We started with fried green tomatoes. They come with 2 ranches, a regular and a spicy. Really fresh. I had brisket and my wife the turkey. Mine was good, hers was dry. The sides and cornbread were good. Love the off the wall BBQ sauces.

Awesome find. Relaxing environment and great food. To start with the fried pickles were the best I’ve ever eaten. They came with two different dipping sauces, ranch and another kind that was spicy. Yum. The ribs were to die for. They come out with a dry rub and you can go to the BBQ bar and choose from many different flavors. Me being from the Memphis area was tickled to see they had a Memphis flavor. A little taste of home. Awww. And the sides were very good. Our server was spot on, on her recommendations. She checked in on us often and kept the drinks full.
