Let me preface this by saying that I’ve been going to the original for 25years and I still Love it! I come in from Austin and La Popular is always one of my stops. But the location on South 14th Is Horrific. The Carne Guisada is bland & cold, tacos are tiny, twice I’ve been served old hot sauce and the lady behind the counter is not helpful. I’ve seen her talk to people in Spanish knowing they can’t understand her and then she speaks in English to the folks that have a tough time speaking English. It doesn’t make sense to me. I saw a lady today returning tamales that were cold but were supposed to be fresh. La Popular needs quality control and new staff or they need to shut this one down. I’ll continue making the long drive to the original for now.

It’s okay. Burritos are good, tortillas are homemade and delicious. Service.meh. It’s a good possibility they don’t know English too. Who knows.

This is a great place to get burritos to go that are delicious. Go early, they prep for the amount of business they think they are going to get that day. They might run out of what you want if it takes too much prep to get it out quick. If you don’t get there early enough you can end up waiting a bit for your food. Most important, this location shouldn’t be considered a sit down type of place to eat. Get your food to go. Even if there were more than three tables(which there aren’t) the atmosphere is not conducive to a sit down meal. But the food is great 99% of the time.

By far the best burrito place I have ever eaten at! My fave is the bacon egg potato and cheese burrito. The salsa is perfect not too hot. The tortillas melt in your mouth they’re so tender and fresh. Carne guisada(sp?) is also worth trying!

I always stop by here when in town. We have always enjoyed the carne guisada burritos and still do. However my visit yesterday left a bad taste in my mouth. First they took way too long to bring out food. I had the carne guisada plate with no beans extra rice. I waited over 10 mins for my plate and it was 3:45 in the afternoon. It took another 10 mins for the rest of the meals to come out. The tortillas are big but get hard before you can eat half. Next issue we purchased 7 different pastries and only two were fresh. They were at least one day old, maybe older. Last but certainly not least, the flies were everywhere. My brother in law killed 8 flies, and that was in the hour we were there. Sad to say, but we won’t be back. Not without some positive changes to this establishment.

These burritos are so crimping delicious. I love it. Haha few days ago, I put in a large order for my office and I asked them if they could please label clearly the burritos to avoid confusion. They still labeled in their abbreviation but then also wrote«LABEL» on all of them. I guess they really took it literally.

They have the best burritos in town, nothing else comes close. My favorite is the potato, egg, and cheese.

First of, writing this review was a bit difficult, because the food was OK, but well, I have a few comments to make. I had the«Carne Guisada» plate by the way. So below my comments: 1) The food was OK. It was flavorful, and the stew was actually really well cooked. The spicy sauce was actually pretty good. Tomatoe based, with Jalapenos? Not sure, could be Serranos. But anyways, not bad at all. I’m used to much hotter salsas, but of course, that doesn’t mean it was bad. 2) The place is rather small, with literally 3 tables and 6 chairs. Not very welcoming to be straight honest. I think they could do a little better without making it lose its«escence», if you know what I mean. 3) Flour tortillas tasted really good. A little thick to my taste. But of course, that’s just my preference. 4) I was really surprised they actually took AMEX! So good deal! All and all, I give this place 3 stars, as I really believe the place is not welcoming at all. But again, food was actually OK.

This place is fantastic and very inexpensive. Their breakfast burritos are the best I’ve ever had and under $ 2. They use homemade tortillas. There is always a crowd for a reason but they move you through quick. I go by here every time I’m in Abilene.

Love the burritos. They are consistently good– I’ve been going here for over 10 yrs and have never had a bad burrito! I also love the bakery items, and am disappointed they won’t sell these through the drive thru anymore. The drive thru line is often very slow(I don’t think their system of dealing with the window is a good one), which is annoying. La pop used to be a very quick way to get a good burrito, now it’s just a quick way. My fav is bean and potato– it’s not on the menu, but they have been making it for me for a decade now :)

Great homemade tortillas. If you have a hangover from a long night of drinking this place will cure it.

I love their burritos. This the hole in the wall that has lines out the door. The carne guisada burrito is absolutely amazing!

Another«hole in the wall» that puts out some SERIOUSLY good food. Breakfast burritos from here are culinary delights. I have had several different ones and they all rocked my buds. Anytime I am near Abilene for breakfast time, I go if my situation allows it. If you like breakfast burritos that come as close as possible to what your Latina grandma made, this is the place to go for them.

Freak’n DELISH! My husband and I eat here too much lol. We stock up on their breakfast burritos(potato, chorizo, egg, cheese, and beans!) and keep them in the fridge and eat them every morning lol. OH and the salsa is UHmazing. LOVE this place!!! When we move back to Austin we will definitely miss this place very much…

Breakfast here every day is absolutely essential. Potato egg and cheese burritos or bean and cheese or just about anything is the best way to start your day. Make sure you get a lemonade or a sweet tea to go with it. That’s right tea for breakfast. Best burrito stop in Abilene.

This is a favorite of my whole office. Weekly breakfast burritos are a must! It’s cheap too. I get the chorizo and egg because it’s my favorite but the bacon, egg and cheese and the carna guisada is also good. They are so popular you will have trouble finding a parking spot. They are locally owned. The hot sauce lives up to its name. I like it hot and I looovvvveee their hot sauce. This is where the locals eat breakfast. You won’t regret it. Also at Christmas this is where we order our tamales from for Christmas Eve dinner. Preordering is required or you won’t get any.
