3.5 stars I stayed at this hotel with a large group on our Tour to Spain, France, and Italy. The lobby is small, but there is plenty of seating and tables while you’re waiting or eating breakfast. The front desk was nice and helpful. This is located in a quieter neighborhood in Madrid. There is a Metro station a few blocks away… maybe a 15 minute walk? Not sure about the buses. Wifi is free up to 30 minutes in the lobby or you can pay 3,90 Euros for 24 hour access in your room. We purchased the room wifi. It was fast and easy to connect to. I found the hotel to be quiet and comfortable. Our room had two twin beds and a decent amount of space for a European room. The A/C was strong enough too though it wasn’t extremely hot in the room. Good water pressure and temperature though the bathroom was a little sterile and hospital-like. Breakfast was decent though not too many options. They had cold cereal, bread, jams, coffee, tea, juices, and croissants. I had some chocolate croissants and ate some oatmeal that I brought from home. Overall a pleasant stay. Probably wouldn’t return as I like a place with a little more soul and flavor.

Like most Travelodges, Travelodge Torrelaguna, in Madrid, charges by the room. Whether or not it’s expensive depends upon how many of you there are, the state of the euro against the pound, and whether or not you can score a ‘saver room’ They serve breakfast, although I don’t consider it really good value for money; if they have a coach party in, I can rarely get at the buffet anyway. So, I usually breakfast elsewhere. For other meals, there’s a Chinese restaurant right next door, or other restaurants within easy walking distance. There’s a bus to the city centre(No. 53) stops right outside the hotel; the nearest Metro station is at Barrio de la Concepcion, about 10 minutes walk away. Do not fall into the same trap I did first time I visited. I inquired for Calle Torrelaguna, in which the hotel stands, and was told to take the Metro to Avenida de la Paz ‘and Calle Torrelaguna will be right in front of you’. It was; but they didn’t say how long Calle Torrelaguna was! As far as cleanliness and comfort is concerned, these are adequate, if a little soulless, like Travelodges anywhere. Maybe it’s a bit out in the sticks if you’re staying in Madrid for a while. But, if you just want somewhere to lay your head before moving on somewhere else, it’ll do.
