Quintín

Fuimos un sábado a cenar un grupo de amigos. Sitio bien puesto, coqueto, muy de moda, barrio de Salamanca. El público muy acorde con el barrio y bastante gente de las que van a ver o dejarse ver. En la planta por la que entras demasiado ruidoso y abarrotado, mejor arriba o abajo.
El servicio mas que bueno excepcional, nos trataron y atendieron de maravilla a pesar de lo lleno que tenían el local, amables, diligentes, acertados.
La comida en general buena pero irregular. De todo lo que yo probé destaca un tartar de atún que me encantó, jugoso, sabroso y distinto del habitual con cebolla y pepinillo picados. También unas alcachofas que nos ofrecieron por fuera y para el que le guste el picante unas verdinas con faisán muy logradas.
Eso sí, si te animas a vino y pides algo de picar previo a la cena, puede salir por cincuenta euros o más.

Nice place, very trendy. We had to book our table three days in advance. Very crowded place. We enjoyed the food, had a rich broth that soothed my soul and my husband had Rabo de Toro. Pricey but small portions. Will recommend Quintin for someone looking for a place to see and be seen.

Probablemente el mejor croissant que me he comido en esta ciudad en mi vida; también probablemente una de las peores experiencias sociales (que no gastronómicas) que jamás he sufrido.
Entramos en este sitio porque parecía muy bello; solo queríamos un café y algo de comer, no podía ser muy difícil. Justo acababan de levantarse dos «personas» (luego entenderéis el porqué de mi entrecomillado) de una mesita y la ocupamos alegremente, hasta que la chica que atendía nos informó de que ya no podíamos sentarnos si no era para comer. 12:40 del mediodía, un poco exagerado a nuestro parecer, así que al final logramos negociar levantarnos antes de las 13, cosa que ya de por sí no me pareció muy bien, pero al fin y al cabo yo soy el invita… Ah, no, espera, que soy el puñetero cliente que te va a pagar casi 8 € por dos cafés y un croissant magnífico. En fin.
A medida que pasaban los minutos yo sabía que algo iba mal. Las personas de las mesas adyacentes hablaban a gritos y los contenidos de sus conversaciones rasgaban el velo que habitualmente oculta la realidad, permitiéndome ver la oscuridad tras él. A un lado dos chicas (por lo visto son actrices famosas de televisión) hablaban sobre lo vacías que se sentían si sus parejas no les llevaban a un restaurante caro cada fin de semana. Detrás de nosotros, tres mujeres hablaban de las diferentes categorías de filipinas y latinoamericanas que habían limpiado sus casas y cómo preferían unas a otras, en un ejercicio público y notorio de racismo y clasismo que me tuvo tenso durante un buen rato. En la barra, una famosilla de medio pelo con leggins, sombrero de ala ancha y abrigo de pieles intentaba ocultar su presencia ante alguien a quien no quería ver; por desgracia, hay cosas que no pueden ocultarse. Sentados en un sillón, mirando a las mujeres como si fueran ganado, un par de extravagantes señores que, por tener, solo deben tener dinero. En la puerta, la enésima revisión de la estirpe maldita de los Vallejo-​Nágera en forma de Colate, quejándose a uno de los trabajadores del local sobre el taxi que le habían pedido.
Yo no podía más, era evidente que este microcosmos no era el nuestro y que, por muy bueno que estuviera el croissant, no iba a volver a entrar aquí en mi vida, así que pagamos y huimos ante la superficialidad y la estulticia reinantes. El local, magnífico; el producto, excelente; el ambiente, lamentablemente, no es que no fuera de mi gusto: es que atenta contra el corazón de mis creencias vitales.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. Well thought out menu, excellently prepared, great service. Wonderful wine list. We ate downstairs and just thought it was so lovely. The pumpkin soup amuse bouche should be on the static menu, it was so good! Save room for dessert.

Primero, hay que felicitarles por el décor — tienen una frutería bellísima dentro del restaurante junta con una carnicería y otras decoraciones que te hacen sentir como si estuvieras una callecita del pueblo.
La comida es excellente. Recomiendo la pizza.

I had dinner with a group here last week. Beautiful restaurant with a Fruiteria, gorgeous cheese and meat displays and a happening bar scene. We were upstairs at a huge round table overlooking the wine storage. Most had pizza (try it with the spicy salsa and oil=yum!), I had the filet medallions and we shared a variety of tasty tapas. Definitely not to be missed in Madrid!

Gorgeous dinner stop on our first night in Madrid, and we loved it so much we came back for a sangria at the bar the next evening. It nicely bridges the traditional vs trendy gap, with exposed brick walls and soft lighting that give it a warm, homely feel whilst attracting a notably well-​heeled crowd. There’s even a fruit display in the corner reflecting their grocery store beginnings. We were seated in the dining room upstairs which had the perrrfect ambiance for date night… though I had 2 colleagues with me for entertainment instead.
The waiting staff were extremely helpful when ordering as there were a few things we needed a little translation help with — they had English menus but not everything had an equivalent. I persevered with the Spanish menu anyway, dusting off the cobwebs on the high school Spanish to give it a go! The selection was mostly traditional dishes and some others with a twist, and even a pizza section which seemed a little out of place. The focus throughout though is on fresh eco-​friendly ingredients (hence the organic pizza line-​up).
They actually had me at the free cheese they brought out to nibble on first. I know, I’m a cheap date. That cheese may in fact have been the reason I was so keen to go back the next day… mmm. We ordered a few dishes to share to start, including black cod croquettes (which I was excited about but couldn’t taste much cod) and duck rolls (which I wasn’t excited about but should have been — nicely crispy, not greasy at all). For main I ordered lasagne with leeks and artichokes, which I’d been worried was going to be too heavy after the sizeable starters and plenty of lovely Spanish white wine, but turned out to be the most low-​carb, light and delicious lasagne I’ve ever tasted. No melted cheese in sight — in fact it was predominantly full of greens. Just what I needed after the fairly heavy starters.
The only sour note came at the end when it took about 20 minutes for our bill to arrive. And when you’re a starving-​by-​7pm UK gal adjusting to the let’s-have-an-early-dinner-at-10pm Spanish way, I was practically ready for bed with the last mouthful so it seemed like an inordinately long time to wait!
A very high quality meal overall though, with prices reflective of that and the location. Make sure you book in advance for dinner, though you can stand outside or get lucky with a bar spot if you’re just after a drink (and that cheese)…

Ugh, Quintin is so chic, it’s ridiculous. My husband and I stopped by around 7pm this past Saturday night for an apéritif and a plate of jamon, drawn in by the beautiful surroundings and lively atmosphere. They have a salon for dinner, a counter for take-​away, and a bar area for drinks. The most popular at that time was obviously the bar area, brimming with well-​heeled Madrileños. Our waitress flaked out about halfway through, but other waitresses picked up the slack. If I lived nearby, I’d most certainly be a regular here.

Good, but pricey.
Eco-​chic tapas place /​restaurant. Very well decorated and eco-​style ambiance. Always very crowded. Don’t think about going for lunch or dinner without reservation, especially on weekends.
Food quality is very good, but the prices are more than steep. Pizzas (normal size) range from 18−25(!) €. Pasta starting at 16 €. Of course you pay the location, but it’s just a bit too much in my opinion.
Next downturn: seating. Literally no space between tables and chairs, they cram in whatever is possible. Not ok and not a comfortable or relaxed setting.
For the high prices and seating one star less each. Service is OK, but not very personal.
Otherwise: give it a try when you feel you need to spend some extra.

Tuvimos la suerte de «heredar» una mesa al mediodía, suerte porque pedir mesa es una cosa imposible en «Quintín». Es EL restaurante de moda en pleno barrio Salamanca y más que reservar mesa «dan cita».
Espero que este éxito no les suba a la cabeza, porque el sitio es estupendo. Su diseño rústico-​elegante me recuerda ligeramente a restaurantes alpinos de mi Austria natal. Vigas desde es y astillo a la vista combinan con una cultura de mesa impecable.
La altura de dos plantas da amplitud en la entrada y la galería ofrece un sitio recogido y acogedor.
La carta pequeña y cuidada ofrece un buen equilibrio entre cocina tradicional — sobre todo asturiana — e innovadora. Los camareros también consiguen el complicado equilibrio entre amable y profesional y mantienen un servicio bastante fluido a pesar de lo lleno que está el sitio.
Con un poco de suerte espero conseguir mesa en Quintín … pero no demasiado pronto.
