Mediocre food and the worst service I have had in a long time. Avoid it like the plague.

Great place for cold beer and tapas. the variety of Jamon iberico, Serranos, Catimpalos and cheeses is divine. Close to el Museo Del Prado so perfect for a before or after stop in. Every time you order a copa or cerveza a nice plate of tapas will follow shortly thereafter complimentary of course.

Tapas: Great tapas and excellent flavor of food! Tapa samples were served in plates and meat seemed as fresh as could be. Meat was cut as you ordered it and given to you while you stood next to the bar area. There was limited seating in this location close to the bar area but it was alright being that we were with a group of friends and family. Highly recommend to eat and for photos!

Went here several times during my trip to Spain. The fact that you can get a good sized ham sandwich here for only a euro is pretty fantastic. Definitely worth stopping by to try out the famous jamón and any of their other items for an unbeatable price. Great place to grab a quick bite or sit down to eat.

Came here for inexpensive, decent food, but got cheap quality, slow service and expensive prices. The Bocadillo de Chorizo Iberico came on really low-quality chewy bread like the kind you get in NYC bodega sandwiches, and the cheese was rather bland. The chorizo was good, but was given sparingly. I ordered a glass of orange juice without looking at the price and was shocked to find it was € 3,30 for a single glass! I should have ordered two beers instead. There are many better places around. You are paying premium to sit in the square and look fancy while watching the buskers and other tourists walk about.

This place sounds and looks awesome, but the food is just meh. The jamon /cheese plate tasted just like any other place we had in Madrid. My friend very very very regretfully got the chicken combination plate. The chicken was bland as hell and barely looked grilled. The pictures on the menu look good but you should stay away. Out of the four of us the best dish ordered was the Iberico salad(which has Jamon in it), but even then it was nothing special. One plus of eating here is being able to sit outside and dine in Plaza Mayor, but there a few other restaurants in Plaza Mayor that could have been better.

Museo del Jamon — a museum of ham?!? I thought to myself, I must try this! On our second night in Madrid we knew we wanted to eat dinner in Plaza Mayor and saw that the outdoor seating area at Museo del Jamon was packed with people. We waited around 5 minutes for a table(not bad considering all of the tables were full), however it was 9:30pm. The menu has pictures in it(which typically turns me off, since restaurants who do that typically cater to tourists), however it was a great way to see what all of the different menu selections were. We ordered a plate of jamon iberico(amazingly delicious!), barbeque chicken wings(very good) and spicy patatas fritas. Our waiter was very busy with other tables and ended up forgetting about our fritas until the end, and to our disappointment they were not good at all(no flavor an definitely not spicy). When we got to the bill we saw that we were charged for an extra drink we didn’t order. We tried to flag down our waiter to tell him about the mistake and after waiting 20 minutes just ended up paying and leaving. I enjoyed the jamon and the ambiance of being in Plaza Mayor but I’m not sure if I would eat here again.

If you’re looking for a good smoked Virginia or Smithfield type of ham, keep walking. You won’t find it here. But if you’re seeking some wonderful cured European hams, this is the place for you. They seem to have it all. Not only can you get just a sandwich but whole legs, hoof on. Their assortment and variety is immense along with good service and a helpful attitude in assisting you with your selections.

I love Museo de Jamón. I have eaten there dozens of times. it’s where I bring visitors the first time they visit Madrid. It has everything, from a full service resaurant to a dessert case. I love everything there especially the prices. Love the jamón ibérico for 20 e a plate cannot be beat . I prefer the restaurant on San Jerónimo to the Plaza Mayor location only because if you sit outside, they charge you more which is standard in Spain.

1 Euro ham sandwich. 1.30 Euro beer. Among the cheapest stuff you’ll find around Madrid. Lots of aged hams to choose from, I didn’t really know the specifics, but everything looked good. All the items on the menu revolve around the same premise, so you can’t really go wrong here. Servers don’t really speak English too well, and the service is God awful and uninspired so make sure to be a little patient. High school Spanish class saves the day again.

There’s ham and then there is Jamon! Belotta and Iberico are not even closely related to what we call ham in the US. I have had jamon from Museo del Jamon in other parts of Madrid and yet, this location in Plaza Mayor is special. Sitting at one of the tables overlooking this square that has been a center of Madrid for hundreds of years is magical. To think that over 500 years ago this square was used to punish and torture people and now it is a tourist area with Mickey Mouse and Sponge Bob characters as well as street entertainers playing accordion is mind boggling. The menu is simple with pictures of the different choices and fair pricing. We went with a plate of Belotta Jamon and a plate of Manchego Cheese. Along with some crisp baguettes and olive oil, this was a perfect start to 4 days in Madrid. If your in Madrid, make sure to stop at one of the many Museo De Jamon locations throughout the city, its a must!

We stopped in this place as we walked around Madrid. It was really crowded and very active and lively, with lots of debris on the floor(you’ll learn that is highly typical), and lots of order ‘shouting’ to the gentlemen behind the counter. They are quick, not big on chit-chat with the customers, and do their jobs well at taking your order and getting it to you quickly. The menus are simple and had photos, so you knew what to expect(which is nice when you don’t know that one bocadillo is on a croissant and another will come on a baguette). You can’t beat their 1 Euro menu, either! We sampled a lot of different things here and since some of which were from the 1 Euro menu, it was really affordable; We appreciated the quick service and the no-frills environment as we were just stopping by to take in the experience. Also, don’t plan on sitting, it’s all stand-up and that was just fine with us.

This is a pretty good place for tapas. The serrano ham, manchego cheese and Spanish chorizo are delicious. The place is crowded and full of smoke downstairs(at the bar). It’s impossible to figure out how people in Madrid order their food. You actually have to fight to get the attention of the bartender. Upstairs, there is a dining room, but it’s a bit tight. This place has been here for ages and it’s worth overlooking some of its drawbacks. The food is definitely good.

In English: Sandwiches for only 1 Euro?! What a deal! The four of ordered three sandwiches and three drinks for about 6 Euros total. I had the Pan Tomaca Museo, which is toast with totamto sauce and slices of ham on top. It was very good. 3.5 stars — — — - En Espanol: Bocadillos por solo 1 Euro? El pan tomaca museo fue muy bueno. Having been told that there was a 45 min wait at Botin and it being fairly late, we trekked into Museo del Jamon for a snack. Or so we thought. After looking at the menu we decided to get the platter that basically had all of their cured meats and cheeses. Jamon up the wazoo, chorizo, lomo… man were we dirty gluttonous bastards. Man it was good though. This didn’t stop up from gettnig more pork at Botin in the form of the roast suckling pig later either. From from the front entrance in Plaza Mayor it didn’t look all that big but you realize they have multiple rooms and their central kitchen actually pumps out quite a bit of food. Didn’t delve deep into their main menu as the cured selection was overboard enough. Servers seem to move at a more frantic pace than most places but it could be because of being in the plaza, they garner a lot of covers. A definite place for cured salty pork products

perfect if you wanna stay below a ceiling of pigs feet, covered in smell of fat, beer and the exhausts of the hundreds of dead & dried animals… dont think this is «tyoical Spanish» — its a tourist trap and a chain of similar shops… my suggestion: STAYAWAY and go to a decent bar with good ham !!!

The Spanish love their cured ham. Most bars we went into had an entire leg of it(trotter and all) balanced on the edge of the bar, along with an enormous carving knife, and we passed countless places that had row upon row of enormous hams hanging from the ceiling. In fact, they love their ham so much here that they’ve even named a chain of restaurants: ‘Museo del Jamon’(literally translated as ‘Museum of Ham’). Decorated with huge legs of ham hanging from the ceiling and bar, the menu consists almost exclusively of platters(raciones) of cured meats and cheeses. Like a number of places in Madrid though, Museo del Jamon offers three different prices: bar, salon and terrace. It’s generally far cheaper(by about EUR2−3 per dish) to stand at the bar than it is to sit outside on a terrace soaking up Madrid’s fabulous al fresco café culture. We opted for the mid-price salon option and ate in the restaurant — I must say that this was probably the best value for money place that we found in Old Madrid terms of price and portion size(even their terrace prices). The other great thing about this place is that it doesn’t matter if you don’t speak a word of Spanish, because the menu has pictures of all the dishes — result! So after perusing this with great interest to see whish dishes looked the tastiest, we opted for a racion of chorizo and one of jamon serrano(cured ham) with cheese, along with a plate of chips(patatas fritas). The wine we went for was their house Rioja(Ciencuevas Rioja Crianza 2006), which was immensely drinkable. For around EUR20, we were full up and merrily tipsy. Highly recommended as a central, great value place to grab a bite. Or three.
