El Obrador de Goya

Tenía ciertas reticencias porque soy un nazi-​antifranquicias pero, una vez te das por vencido y asumes que el centro de Madrid ha sido regalado al poder, te das cuenta de que El Obrador de Goya es de lo mejor que te puedes encontrar dentro del mundo de la repostería industrial. Yo estoy como loco por sus donuts con azúcar por encima, me comería 10 seguidos hasta vomitar, quedarme vacío y volver a por otros 10. Barato no es, pero bueno, el precio es otro aspecto al que también he renunciado desde que dejé de ser un chico de provincias.

This little bakery was right across the street from the hotel I stayed in. Not wanting to try the fabulous continental breakfast at the hotel, we decided to try this place. It’s a small space but offers a lot of different sweets, pastries, sandwiches, and more. I decided to try the ham & cheese empanada while hubby went for the chorizo empanada. They gave us nice big & delicious servings that kept us full until dinnertime.
We topped it off with café con leche and were off to exploring the city!
Seems like they are popular with the locals as there was a line the entire time we were there. Long line, but never a long wait — the 2 women working here were quick and efficient with smiles on their faces the whole time. I also noticed that they knew the names of a bunch of regulars.
Also, they sell cheap bottles of water that you can take with you on your walks.

Suelo comprar el pan en esta panadería de Conde de Casal. Forma parte de una cadena que tiene varias por todo Madrid y se publicitan diciendo: ¡Nosotros sí somos de Madrid!, me imagino que frente a la omnipresente Granier. Hay muchísimos tipos de pan (a veces hacen degustaciones en la puerta) y un buen surtido de pastelería y bollería. Tienen una pequeña barra dónde poder desayunar. Puedes encargar un buen surtido de tartas para celebraciones. Soy bastante fan de su pan de 5 semillas (1,10 €) y de sus pepitos de crema, que me compro muchas como premio cuando me toca currar en casa. Normalmente está lleno de gente y a última hora no le queda prácticamente de nada. También tienen salados como sándwiches de bechamel o empanadas y empanadillas surtidas.
