Pound for pound, this is perhaps the best spa I have thus far utilized for sauna, steam room, and whirlpool purposes. Rather than sporting a single steam room and sauna, here one will find a variety of rooms set at different temperatures, including a laconium and a caldarium. There are also foot baths with rocks beneath the running water, an infinity whirlpool, a cold water plunge, special multi-shower-headed showers, outdoor and indoor heated swimming pools, a huge dressing area with complimentary lockers and robes, treatment rooms for massages and other offered skin care services, an award-winning fitness center, and a dedicated swimming suit dryer. On the grounds of the Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I but physically separate from the hotel facility, this is a spa way ahead of its time. Built quickly to be ready for the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics, today it still boasts what appears to be a space age design, and adds a further luxurious touch to the five-star hotel with which it shares space. I can’t wait to return some day!
