A quick snack break in between shopping at the Ramblas and Barri Gottic areas. At 5pm, the market was quieter than I had expected. Many stalls were closed including Pinotxo where we had intended to go for Tapas. Scouting what remained, Quiosc was packed while other places in the market was less so. After waiting for 5 minutes, we were seated. We ordered beer, grilled razor clams, grilled mussels, fried anchovies, and tripe. A hearty snack that refueled us and allowed us to catch a brief respite before heading out exploring as tourists. All the dishes taste fine and were beyond my expectations. Quality of seafood high, and shone through the simple prep and cooking of these items.

The seafood here inside the La Boqueria Market is incredibly fresh and they hands down have the best anchovies so far in my Barcelona trip(and I’ve been to quite a few highly rated eateries). Definitely get the deep fried anchovies for 5,50 euros. The razor clams are incredibly fresh and the simply cooking in olive oil with garlic and parsley brings out the meaty flavor. It’s 11 euros for 4 but worth it! The mussels are cooked with the same sauce and you get a very sizable portion for only 5,50 euros. The tripe is only okay because I think the tomato sauce overwhelms the tripe.

Fresh seafood. Bartop seats. Cava and beer. I’m sold. For our last dinner in Barcelona, we wanted fresh seafood at the Mercat de la Boqueria. We found this seafood eatery at the back of the market and decided to give it a try. We ordered grilled mussels, grilled razor clams, grilled baby squid, Cava and beer. The razor clams were gritty– not recommended, but the other dishes were well executed. The bill came out to about 30 €. You can ask for some bread to dip with the olive and lemon drippings from all the grilled seafood ;) This was a great and yummy find where you can appreciate the bustling market and sizzling fresh seafood while taking a swig of that beer or sip of that Cava.

Ate here to experience eating seafood at the Barcelona markets and while everything tasted fresh, nothing I ate here really rocked my taste palate(or as my dining companion put it — won’t be back). I took the mixed grill for € 28 to be shared and got clams, fish, baby octopus, calamari, big shrimp, razorback clams and mussels to split between two people and glass of cava. The cava tasted weak and watered down, and it was my first time eating Razorbacks and these were so gritty! We had to also ask for bread, they didn’t just offer it, so service could have been more hospitable, although food came out pretty quick. Will be back to the markets, but not back to this place.

On our last day there we walked to La Boqueria Market and looked for another spot to try out. We’ve already gone to Pinotxo twice and decided to check out something different. We walked towards the back of the market and found this spot. It was early and I was in the mood for breakfast, so it was the next logical choice to order some oysters, mussels, sardines, and sausage. Breakfast of champions! This place is one of the newer bars to open up in the market and they deliver. Of the many places to check out when you’re getting lost in the market and photobombing German tourists. Come early and stay for the seafood!
