BlackLab

On my quest to hit the top brew pubs in Barcelona, i came upon this place. It had a nice feel as you entered with a big screen at one end of the dining area for watching the soccer (football) games. I started with the Japanese tea ipa and really enjoyed it. For the entrée, I had the Rueben, which probably was not their signature dish. But who cares, I came here for the IPA.
The brew vats were right behind me as I ate, giving me a homey feeling. I followed the Japanese tea with the El Cunado which was a Rye IPA with citrus overtones, which I normally don’t care for, but this one was good and didn’t leave you with the overt grapefruit taste.
Their array of craft beers was impressive and my vote of 4 stars was for that point alone. If you are on an IPA/​craft beer pilgrimage in Barcelona and don’t want tapas and bland lagers, make this one of your stops.

Tried this place on a whim. Very good food and amazing service. Ordered the Blacklab Burger which was amazing and we had the nachos with chile con carne to start! Would highly suggest. Didn’t try any of the beers but had cava for only 3.50 € which was a great steal!

Go for the beer, don’t stay for the food.
When I first came to this restaurant, I was amazed by how well they cooked the beer battered fries and marinated the pulled pork.
Although the beer at this place is good, the food simply falls flat. I don’t know what happened in the two months I have eaten there, but all of sudden it turned into a tourist hub of overpriced lacklustre food.
The beer battered fries used to be thin and crispy with a distinct flavour. Now it barely even has flavour. If you order ketchup with your fries, they serve you this house made ketchup that is watered-​down. In fact most of the things you order now are watered-​down.
The pulled pork, on the other hand, is dry as hell. It tastes like it is cooked from frozen and it is quite disappointing when you embarrass yourself telling your friends how good this resto used to be.

Wish I could give two and a HALF stars because this place got half of it right. Beer was amazing. In a city where there is usually not a great variety of beer this place had it all. Great patio. Great atmosphere. But the half they missed was the food. We got battered cheese bites, ribs, and belly buns. Everything was slightly cold and nothing had any flavor. Would recommend for beer but not for food. And let’s be honest, you probably found it while searching for beer anyway.

Ok burger, satisfying but didn’t rock our world. Nice to sit outside, but you pay for the prime real estate.
Service was friendly at first but later very aggressive and abrupt. Huh.

We stopped in for a quick bite after spending the day walking around barcelona. The beer was great, mostly IPAs, and they have nachos & guacamole. After traveling in Europe for a few weeks, a pint and some nachos was an awesome find.

Amazing. I had a pretty good idea about how Barcelona was a craft beer hotspot, and after trying out this amazing brewpub, I knew I had come to the right place.
They do their own small batches right next to the pub, and boy are they good. I worked my way through their menu over the past week and was not disappointed once. Great IPA’s, Porters, you name it. Fantastic!

Want some beer? This is a cool spot to go to. I tried Granny’s Brewery which is a hot beer with some apple and topped with cinnamon and cream. Clearly like a warm apple pie.
The interior of the place has such a cool and chill vibe. There’s a bar when you first enter and if you turn left there’s a place for you to eat and drink; if you turn right you’ll see the dining area.
What makes this place stand out a lot of the service of the waitress. She was attentive and was knowledgeable about beer ans was also welcoming. I’d love to come back here again.

I was in Barcelona for three and a half days. I had multiple burgers. BlackLab missed the mark by a mile.
We showed up late one night, lured by the rave reviews and the prospect of an Asian-​infused brewpub. The reality failed to live up to the hype.
We started with the veggie gyoza (5.95 €). For nearly six euro, you get just four tiny dumplings. My fiancée mentioned they tasted like they’d been frozen.
I had the BlackLab burger (with beer cheese, carmelized onions, bacon and a portobello mushroom — 14.95 €). The bun was completely flimsy and totally fell apart the minute I tried to pick it up. I hate that. I spent most of my meal shoveling fistfuls of dripping meat into my face with my bare hands.
I should also note that BlackLab served up the single least flavorful french fries I’ve ever encountered. It was like eating limp, barely cooked potatoes.
For a brewpub, its beer list was woeful unless you like pale ales. I ended up drinking something that tasted like liquid Sour Patch Kids.
Our server didn’t speak much English, which is fine. I’m visiting his country and the menu was in English. I’m just mentioning that in case you prospective diners have a weak Spanish game.
They did have some nice live music, which was cool. But the food and beer was a huge letdown, and that’s the main reason you go to a place like this. Disappointing.
For a superior Barcelona burger, head to any Bacoa location or check out Foc I Oli.

This was the perfect place for a great inexpensive meal in Barcelona. Of course the beer was worth coming for on it’s own, but did not expect how delicious the food. First were the Nachos, big portion with tortilla chips that were home made… my daughters each ordered the Fried Pork Ribs (half portion)…WOW!!! probably the best deal going. Also ordered the Pot Stickers which were good. My wife had the Ox tail soup and absolutely loved it. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich… the only disappointment of the night. Just a thin piece of chicken on a lot of bread. Should have ordered one of their burgers ’cause the table next to us ordered one and it was big and juicy looking (especially compared to my scrawny yardbird). If you come and just get some ribs and beer you couldn’t go wrong!

Great brewpub, we stopped by around lunchtime on a Saturday so the place was not crowded.
Even though, all sports on all screens in all rooms. Which is kind of a let down for me.
Their beer was nice, the range covered all beer taste. Some fresh hoppy stuff and a imperial stout with a twist, overall good beers.

Awesome little microbrewery close to the Gothic quarter of Barcelona. Lots of unique beers on tap, ask and they will let you sample a few before you choose!

Very convenient near the Barceloneta metro. I came here with my Local friend, and we ordered the namesake burger, which was tender and delicious, worthy of burger eaters anywhere. They also had some great home-​brewed beers and a good beer cocktail selection. My friend had the Smoking Hops and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Didn’t try the Asian side of the Asian American menu, but highly recommend for burgers and beers!

I went here for a break from doing some work, and that was the best decision I’ve made all week! This place is so fun, the bartender (Chris) was so nice, and the beer was great. I don’t usually go back to the same place when I’m visiting somewhere, but I will definitely be back here before I leave Barcelona. They have some really interesting beers, including a Japanese-​flavored beer made with sriracha and Japanese flowers. I went with a really good ipa. They have tours on Sunday’s at 17 hours, which I am looking forward to attending!

On the hunt for some craft beer in Barcelona we ended up at BlackLab for a brew after finding it on the Unilocal app.
They had a lot of IPAs… like more than I’m used to seeing… but I found a porter that hit the spot. It was toasty, with some nice roasted notes, good mouthfeel and overall super solid. I also sampled a couple of the others — a red (maybe?) and an IPA. I’m not much for IPAS (although, they are growing on me slowly but surely) and both were good.
Super nice staff — the fella behind the bar chatted us up a bit and walked us through the menu. Waved us off as we were headed out. It’s always such a huge impact when the staff is friendly — and real basic things can make or break an experience. These guys get it.
The brewery is visible from the tap room, behind a long wall of glass. There are various tables and large windows over looking the street. There’s also a really cool mural along the two walls of Barcelona with all the notable landmarks painted on it. The feel here is like a cool coffee shop, except they are serving beer instead of café.
The wife enjoyed some wine as well, so it’s nice they have options for the non-​beer drinkers.

Aquí es donde llevo a mis amigos cerveceros de fuera. Así pinto bien. Black Lab es genial! Muchísimas cervezas «de la casa» e «invitadas» de las cuales escoger, perfecto para una persona indecisa como yo! Ha! El ambiente está genial porque es muy tranquilo.
Algo que no me gustó mucho de Black Lab es que el personal al no ser local no se explica muy bien, algo que es una pesadilla para el consumidor. Cuando le pedía que me describiera sobre algunas cervezas se limitaba a leerme lo que estaba ya expuesto en la pared con las descripciones de cervezas. No recibíà la misma recomendación de cervezas dependiendo de mi gusto como las he recibido en otras cervecerías. También les pregunté si tenían un tipo de cerveza que se llama «sour beer» (cervezas con carácter sumamente ácido o ágrio) me dijo que eso no existía. Casi le busco el wikipedia y le digo de tipos de cervezas ágrias que he tomado. Es como preguntarle a un sommelier sobre los vinos tipo syrah y que te digan que no sabe lo que es, está fatal en toda la regla. Aparte de eso el lugar es genial! Lo recomiendo aunque no sepan lo que son sour beers :)

Awesome beers and fantastic food. If you guys are soup fans I definitely recommend you try the oxtail soup, one of the most delicious soups I’ve ever tasted. Not to mention their brewed beers are the best! Especially if you are a fan of ipa and different blends. As a fan of spicy foods I was pleased to see they had sriracha sauce, after having looked for it around Europe for a month. A must stop bar to visit in barcelona, if I were were a local this is where you would find me on the weekends!

Todavía sueño con la «hamburguesa» que me comí! Era la hamburguesa «Portobello» y la verdad es que es toda una explosión de sabores. La peculiaridad de esta hamburguesa es que no hay hamburguesa! Es un champiñón marinado con cerveza relleno de queso cremoso.
Todo lo que pedimos estaba buenísimo, los dumplings de carne & verduras estan riquísimos, los sirven con una salsa de soja que les da el toque perfecto.
De las cervezas no puedo hablar porque no me gustan mucho, pero tengo entendido que están bastante bien!
El servicio es bastante rápido y las camareras son muy amables, aunque también es verdad que ese día no tenían mucha gente, no sé cómo será con la terraza y el local llenos.
El local tiene un montón de tiradores de cerveza en el mostrador, es bastante grande y tienen allí mismo los depósitos y la sala en la que hacen la cerveza.
Si vuelvo a Barcelona, y me pilla cerca la hora de comer o cenar, volveré a probar otros platos, si son como los que ya conozco seguro que no defraudan!

Otro sitio en Barna al que mola ir a tomar una artesana de elaboración propia. Con un montón de opciones propias para elegir que elaboran en el mismo local, alguna nueva incorporación de vez en cuando y para completar la carta, unas cuantas cervezas de otras fábricas, no podrás decir que no encuentras nada que te guste.
Nada más entrar te encuentras la barra de frente, llena de tiradores, a la derecha un espacio con mesas, y a la izquierda la zona dedicada a la elaboración, a la que si quieres puedes hacer una visita guiada.
Aparte de las cervezas que elaboran, con ingredientes naturales, y locales siempre que sea posible, han creado una carta de comida en la que fusionan gastronomía asiática y americana. Así que podrás acompañar tu artesana de unos platos que tienen muy buena pinta. Desde luego, los que yo he probado puedo asegurar que la realidad es fiel reflejo de su pinta. La hamburguesa Straight Up, siendo un estilo más «normal» está estupenda. Pero la que más me sorprendió fue la Portobello. Era la primera que probaba una burger vegetariana y no creí que pudiese estar tan buena. El sustituto de la carne es un pedazo champiñón Portobello marinado con cerveza, relleno de queso cremoso y asado a la parrilla. El primer mordisco fue algo impresionante!!!
Si quieres acompañar la hamburguesa con algo para picar, aconsejo los dumplings de carne y verdura con salsa de soja, realmente buenísimos. Ah! Y no quiero dejar de mencionar sus patatas fritas, para mi, de las mejores que he comido.
Su situación es inmejorable, con una gran terraza en «tol meollo». Casi tod@s sus camarer@s son extranjeros, pero hablan castellano perfectamente. Y aunque podrías pensar que va a estar repleto de guiris fastidiosos, no ha habido ni una sola vez que haya ido en la que haya estado a disgusto.
Ojo al dato!!! Si vas antes de las 21h te vas a ahorrar 1 € en sus cervezas propias. Aun así, no son nada caras comparadas con otros sitios de la ciudad, y estando dónde está situada.
Otro dato importante, no hay suplemento de terraza.
100% recomendable.

El BlackLab es una cervecería situada en la Barceloneta. Mola porque ellos mismos fabrican su propia cerveza artesanal pinchadas en sus más de diez tiradores (junto con otras «invitadas»).
Yo no soy muy fan de la cerveza, pero mi pareja me dice que no están nada mal, aparte de que de lunes a jueves y hasta las 21h, tienen un happy hour en sus cervezas, costando un euro menos. ¡Así que te puedes beber una pinta por solo 2 €!
Su oferta gastronómica es bastante buena, destacando sus patatas fritas y sus costillas adobadas.
El local es muy amplio y dispone de terraza. El servicio está pensado para el turismo, ya que la gran mayoría son angloparlantes, aunque entienden y hablan castellano sin problemas. Es un sitio recomendable si te gusta la cerveza artesanal y estás por la Barceloneta :)

Delicious lunch! The beers were excellent. I had the pink lady which is a fruit beer. It was delicious! We had spring rolls for an appetizer. They had tofu in them and were very yummy. I had the portobello mushroom burger. It was tasty. It also came with fries and some delicious dipping sauce. I also sampled the Reuben which was tasty, it wasn’t like your typical Reuben more of a pulled pork, but it was still delicious. Staff are very nice and speak pretty good English. Overall, it was a good stop!

Si te gusta la buena cerveza artesana, tienes que pasarte al menos una vez por el Black Lab. Por qué su selección de cervezas es muy aceptable. Y por qué encima las que hacen ellos in sitio son 1 € más baratas hasta las 21h. Precios competitivos (en las cervezas) en un sitio que no dirías nunca: en plena entrada de la Barceloneta, en una zona donde los alquileres son una picosada. Mención especial a su IPA Claudia y a su pale ale 1480. Tienen además un selecto grupo de cervezas invitadas un pelín más caras. Y su comida es también más cara en comparación a sus cervezas, pero sus patatas fritas están muy buenas, así como sus costillas marinadas (tapa).

Great burgers, great staff, great prices, great location. Not much else to say!

Very yummy American food! We happened to be walking by and saw someone with their nachos (not on the menu because it’s so new). We thought we would just start with that and a few drinks but ended up staying for dinner too! Nachos were DELICIOUS! Our favorite of the whole night.
We came during #blackhour so my boyfriend had a beer for a euro off and he had the straight up burger (with homemade ketchup and fries), juicy and delicious!
I ordered the meat and veggie dumplings (under dim sum) but really are just potstickers! We shared a bottle of 13 € wine, wasn’t bad!
Total bill was less than 40 €. Very relaxed/​cool vibe to the restaurant, free wifi and was pretty crowded but don’t worry there is lots of seating available! It was definitely a change up from where we have been going in Europe but we enjoyed it. Waitress spoke perfect English too!

El lugar puede engañar, en pleno paseo Joan Borbó, amplia terraza, ¿captador de turistas? Posiblemente si, y más cuando la mayoría del personal son de habla inglesa.
No obstante, el lugar está realmente bien si te gusta la cerveza artesana, ya que cuenta con numerosos tiradores, la mitad de ellos son de elaboración propia (hasta las 21h sus birras valen 1 € menos!) y las «invitadas» suelen ser un poco más caras.
Y como el hombre no sólo vive de cerveza, los platos que preparan tienen muy buena pinta y también tienen ofertas. Lamentablemente aún no los he probado, pero como próximamente haremos un #Clubchervechero, actualizaré mi reseña.

El lugar es nuevo, amplio y muy limpio. Probamos cuatro o cinco platos y todos ellos estaban muy buenos y bien presentados. Y por último, su cerveza, las dos que probé, muy bien hechas. Mención especial para la Peg and Awl!

BlackLab es una fábrica de cerveza artesanal donde puedes probar 7 u 8 de sus birras (más otras tantas invitadas), es un «biergarten», es un lounge, es un lugar de tapas asiáticas, un burger and ribs bar típico americano, una terraza veraniega, … es muchas cosas. Tal vez la inmensa mezcla de estilos, ambientes y especialidades fue lo que no me termina de convencer, pero el local está muy trabajado y cuidado, las cervezas están interesantes y la comida tiene muy buena pinta! También hacen tours por las instalaciones por 8,5 € que está genial ya que incluye degustación de varias y una pinta de la que te guste más.
Eso sí, por su ubicación y las cosas que ofrece, apostaría que será de esos lugares que estará lleno a tope (sobre todo de turistas) en todo momento… aunque afortunadamente aceptan reservas. Espero volver pronto y probar algo de la cocina!

Amazing dining experience from start to finish.
I can go on and on about how much I adored BlackLab, but I will keep it short. The restaurant is very well decorated, and has an extremely welcoming aura that makes you want to stay there forever! They have a comprehensive menu of your basic «American» classics — burgers, wings, ribs, pulled pork, and fries to name a few. There are even some cool Asian dishes for you to try, though I didn’t this time around.
Now, the real kicker here is the beer! They have a list of beers that they brew IN-​HOUSE, ranging from pales to darks to IPA’s, and a list of guest beers on tap that come from different countries. Phenomenal! Since coming to Spain, it’s been forever since I found a joint that served foreign beer, so BlackLab is really the place to go if you’re down for a great brew.
TL;DR: this place rocks and they take their beers very seriously!

Je pense qu’on vient ici pour tester les bières faites sur place (ils ont leur propre brasserie) plutôt que pour déjeuner: leurs burgers sont corrects mais sans plus.
Le lieu, en revanche est très sympa. La terrasse est à l’ombré mais agréable. Le service est bien. Il est possible de se poser pour simplement boire un verre et profiter du wifi. Les prix sont corrects (menu à 11 euros le midi avec burger, bière et café).
Petits points négatifs pour moi: leurs sodas né sont pas en bouteilles mais en machine (comme dans les fasfood) :(/​/​leur wifi est très moyen (assez pour consulter ses mails rapidement mais pas pour y travailler).

BlackLab es un bar/​restaurante donde se produce cerveza in situ de forma artesanal.
Pedimos unas burgers para acompañar la pinta Black Mirror (dry stout beer,), la Straight Up (ternera), una Portobello (champiñón) acompañadas con las patatas Blacklab (fritas rebozadas con cerveza).
Quedé realmente encantada:
La burger veggie de #portobello se lleva la palma terriblemente deliciosa acompañada de una salsa super cremosa. La burger de ternera es buena pero nos la hicieron demasiado (pese a pedirla casi cruda…).
El pan perfecto: tierno, firme y ligeramente crujiente, casi tipo bagel.
Patatas muy adictivas, crunchy y tiernas.
Montón de salsas artesanales que convirtieron la experiencia de comer patatas en algo divertidísimo .
En general, el local destila calidad, buen gusto y amor por la cerveza y comida artesanal.
Los precios, para mí, son correctos. Apuestan más por la calidad y variedad de sabores que por la cantidad. Puedes comer bien por 10 – 15 €.
Personal amable y atento. Cocina profesional, joven y cuidada.
