Again, not worth running out of your hotel first thing in the morning for, but its another small attraction amongst a multitude of attractions that overall make for a pretty fun day out.

This fountain is super cute. It’s not worth coming out of the way for, but no worries because you will pass it on the way to the Little Mermaid statue, which everyone goes to when they visit Copenhagen.

Head to the top of the steps for a view of the park. Then, keep walking through the park to reach the Little Mermaid statue.

The Gefion fountain is the largest monument in Copenhagen that’s also used as a wishing well. Designed by Anders Bundgaard, the beautiful and majestic fountain was sculpted in the late 1900s, first activated in July 1908, and renovated in 1999. Recommissioned in 2004, the fountain is definitely worth a stop.
The legend behind the Gefion Fountain comes from Nordic mythology, where the Swedish king Gylfe offered goddess Gefion as much of Sweden as she could plow in one day and one night. Gefion turned her four sons into oxen and harnessed them to plow. Her four sons plowed so deep into the ground, that when time expired, Gefion lifted up the land and dropped it into the sea between Sweden and Funen Island in Denmark, creating the biggest island in Denmark, Zealand Island. The hole left behind became Lake Vänern, which is actually shaped somewhat similarly to Zealand Island, legend or not.

Gefion Fountain is great! Loved visiting this fountain after our visit to the Little Mermaid. Nice walk through the neighborhood from the Little Mermaid to this fountain.

Very cool story that goes with the statue. Gefion, the heroine of the story is driving four bulls ahead of her on the fountain. These are her four sons who she turned into bulls and then plowed the area known as Zeeland. Zeeland is the largest island that supports the city of Copenhagen. The story goes that the Swedes said that Denmark could keep as much land as Gefion could plow in one day. Sweden and Denmark have always been worried about each other. After converting her sons into bulls, she plowed all night and in the morning the surprised King of Sweden had to give Zeeland to the Danes — which is the center of today’s Copenhagen.

Schöner Brunnen direkt vor der St. Albans Kirche. Die Wasserspiele zu beobachten ist eine wahre Freude. Und Fotos zu machen, natürlich auch, selbst wenn das Wetter nicht ganz so gut ist, wie es sein sollte für strahlende Farben auf den Fotos.

A great spot and a must see if you are visiting Copenhagen.
