This is a great place to come if you’re interested in trying the Danish specialty of Smørrebrød. Why? Firstly, it’s cheap by Copenhagen standards. Secondly, the morsels taste really good. Thirdly, the staff are extremely helpful in explaining what everything is. The place is standing room only aside from a few stools at the bar on the side. I’d read that it can get busy, but we were the only ones there when we visited. Maybe the busyness is a summer thing. Anyway, a top spot to try Smørrebrød.

When it comes to authentic, traditional, everyday Danish smørrebrod this is where I always send people. At 12 kroner a piece for their wide selection of traditional smørrebrod, the price cannot be beat. While they also offer more luxury variations, I always just order 3 to 6 pieces of normal smørrebrod. You’ll find everyone from construction workers to locals to a few tourists frequenting the shop. They typically sell out by around 1:30 in the afternoon, and open a bit after eight in the morning. in summer months I suggest getting some to go, and taking them to the nearby lakes and Dronning Louise’s Bridge for a small picnic. If not from Denmark ask for traditional recommendations like the fried liver or fried fish fillet. There are two small seats inside and a street-side table in summer.

Went here with my 10 year old daughter to try some authentic Danish food that wouldn’t break the bank. The place is really tiny. There are no seats inside. People ate standing up against the wall. The place is super cozy though. There is an assortment of sandwiches to choose from. We went on a rainy day and after lunch so there weren’t too many people. There was 1 table outside and a bench with a table that we ate at. There was a man working at Rita’s who is super helpful. When I asked if I needed to pay for parking on the street, he came outside in the rain to help me read the instructions on the parking meter. Now, that’s what I call service! My daughter and I loved the food. It was very tasty. I suggest you try at least 2 sandwiches per person to get a variety. Between my daughter and I, we had 4 sandwiches to try. It was approximately 15dk per sandwich.

Delicious, cheap and athestically pleasing smørrebrød for only 15dkk. You would need at least 3 to satiate hunger though, as they are small. The staff was really nice and accommodating; the lady behind the counter was willing to freshly make a vegan smørrebrød from the potato one without the mayo.
