I really don’t get, why it’s so popular to hang out at Dronning Louises Bro? The bridge was built 1885 – 1887 and designed by architect Vilhelm Dahlerup, and it replaced Peblinge bridge, which could no longer cope with the growing volume of traffic. The bridge connect the old working class area Nørrebro and the inner city of Copenhagen. It’s a bridge over an artificial lake excavate to be a part of Copenhagen’s fortification. This part of the fortification started in the17th Century. The lakes was also used to supply Copenhagen with water until WW2 and served as a reserve reservoir until 1959. The bridge is a popular place to hang out on a sunny day. You can sit here on the wide sidewalk wit a cup of coffee, beer, or some wine. Often the bridge is used for manifestation, when the people of Nørrebro want to show their discontent with the something.

How do you rate a bridge, by the way? As an engineer, I’m tempted to do the whole building and construction analysis to determine if this bridge, despite its prettiness *rolls eyes at architects* is really functioning as it should. JUSTKIDDING! But tell me, how do you rate a bridge, really? By the amount of hipsters or the so-called Nørrebronx dwellers squatting the bridge with a six-pack of Grøn Tuborg on a tow in a very summery day? One mississipi, two mississipi… Anyway, I totally understand if this bridge has become a hangout place for whoever you are out there, be it you with the cheap beers from discount supermarket, the«original» grøn tuborg or the slightly sophisticated hipsters with a bottle of wine and real wine glasses(I swore I have seen those ones several times) — the view is damn nice over the lakes. You can just stand here and stare forever on the vast spread of polluted water *ahem* I meant the beautiful man made lakes that stretches from Frederiksberg to Østerbro. The bridges have walls and shoulders that are broad enough for you to sit on them so you can be a proper Copenhagen hipster if you want. Still, three stars from me, because I don’t really know how to review a bridge. Totally ok sounds like it’s a functioning bridge.

The classic drinking bridge. People are always drinking here at all hours of the day, night and day, sunset, sunrise. I like this bridge a lot for the fact that it connects norrebro into the city center, plus it’s where the widest bike lanes are. The views of the lakes here are great as well.

So this is one of my favorite spots of the whole city and I can easily explain myself! First of all I am Norrebro girl so I pass by everyday from here. Secondly, I have had so many strange and lovely experiences on this bridge! Going home from bars finding parties with music and dj here. People doing capoeira with music, people playing live jazz, chilling out, enjoying the sun, enjoying the people passing by, people giving free stuff as adverts, the cycle meter that is now gone, people putting up a small society up with a handmade living room, meeting random people, meeting friends out of the blue… Just so many memories that make this bridge special! When there is good weather go there, take a walk at the lakes, grab a coffe or ice cream and enjoy it at the bridge. I am sure you ll see how special it is!
