Los Chicos Restaurante Y Cantina

Stepping into this restaurant I was immediately impressed by the décor and vibrant colours. It reminded me of a tex mex restaurant in Texas. however I was underwhelmed by the tacos I ordered, they were bland and I didn’t have the option for hard shells! I did enjoy the strawberry tequila drink however it reminded me of cancun and beaches, which is a happy get away from winterpeg.

The strawberry margarita was cold and delicious. The nachos were short on ground beef and cheese. Considering the price which was about fifteen dollars including the meat there should have been more ground beef and cheese. Guacamole and tomatoes should be included as well on the tri-​colored chips. Shredded chicken should be an option for the machos. The service was good. I will not get the nachos again.

Only have gone for drinks. Multiple occasions, great hostess Emily, great bartender who made a tasty lime margarita and one of the managers let me taste one of the new reposado tequilas he jus brought in. 5 stars to the drinks and the staff I met!

We returned for a 2^nd visit and started with an order of chips with guacamole made at the tableside — a definite must! For the main, I tried the Ench-​A-​Lotta Combo platter. It was huge and could have been shared by 2 people. It came with 4 enchiladas (beef, pork, chicken and vegetable), refried beans and rice. I enjoyed the chicken best; it was well seasoned and saucy. My husband had the special of the day: burritos for $ 5 each. He ordered 2 of them, as they did not come with sides but he found 1 was definitely enough. Unfortunately, they were a little dry.
Perhaps on our next visit we’ll try the tacos or fajitas… I may have to have the guacamole again!

Not overly impressed with the food. Had a taco salad that was mainly shredded lettuce. Not overly authetic food I found. Atmosphere in lounge was great. Open area not too loud, you can actually have a conversation without yelling which was nice.

With only a hand-​full of Mexican themed restaurants in Winnipeg we though we would all give it a try it replaces the Dacquisto resterant. To cut to the chase, they are doing a good effort for a place that was just opened three weeks (and at a busy time of the year), however you can see everything is not running quite right yet. Do not get me wrong the food and service along with the drinks we ordered were fine, however there we some slips along the way.
The best way I can put this is all five of us enjoyed the meal, if I overlook the slips they may have gotten a higher rating.
They are definitely worth a second look in a month or so when the holiday rush is over, and they have a change to work the kinks out.
