I have gone to Lola’s for 4 years. I went from a weave to braids to twists and beyond and it was always amazing. I never would go anywhere but Lola’s. My hair was always well done and the ladies were always great. I have since moved from the city and cant for the life of me find any salon that compares ! I wish i could get on a plane and fly back and get them to do my hair Love them. Definetly would reccomend!!!

First, I agree with everything the previous reviewer noted about this horrible salon. Being new to Winnipeg and wanting to rid myself of my natural curls, I booked a appointment at this place for a haircut. For weeks, I had searched natural hair blog after natural hair blog for a great natural hair cut that would accomadate my curl pattern and had finally found one that I was satisfied with. So after a Black colleague of mines referred me to Lolas, I felt assured that they knew how to deal with Black natural hair and would be able to execute the style I wanted. Let me tell you, I was WRONG. There were so many red flags throughout my appointment that showed me that none of the stylist knew what they were doing, especially mines. She glanced at my ideal cut photo for all of 2 seconds and proceeded to wack at my hair. She didn’t know how to properly cut my hair and I left her chair with a uneven tappered cut and with stiff and crunchy curls. She also didn’t even have the right products for natural hair, hence why after placing tons of gel, conditioner, and some other mess in my head, my hair felt super dry and crunchy. The next day, I went back to the salon to ask for a refund but was given even more grief from the owner. She claimed that I had left satisfed the previous day, even though I complained about the horribleness of the cut all throughout my appointment. She also had the nerve to say that it was my fault that I didn’t get the style I wanted because my hair was natural instead of relaxed. Despite the fact, that two store workers informed me that they knew how to work with Black natural hair. After about 30 minutes of going on like this, she offered to perm my hair as a way to compensate for the stylist fuck up or to have another stylist«fix» my head. Of course I wanted neither. In the end, she gave a freaking partial refund. As the previous reviewer wrote, if you truly care about your curls and coils, DONOTGOHERE! Do your research on other salons and I would actually recommend the Diversity Hair Studio on Mary St. Rd and Sunset. I ended up going here to have the mess on head savaged and they have stylists that are trained to deal with curly or coily hair. They did a fantastic job with my hair and found a way to make the mess that Lolas gave me look funky. Not all Black-owned businesses know how to work with natural hair nor have the integrity to inform you of this, like Lolas!

I would not recommend this particular salon in Winnipeg. While I can appreciate that there are few salons in the area with curly textured hair experience, there ARE a few, and you should do your research and be sure to visit the salon and hear from satisfied customers BEFORE you go. Lola’s has terrible quality and service, and a very impolite owner(actually blamed the CUSTOMER for improperly rendered services where the stylist should have skill enough to execute a wearable look). All styling is waaayyy overpriced for lack of quality or qualified work; we should have asked for verification and proof of license for each«stylist» prior to sitting in the chair. A lot of salons will instantly point you to Lola’s because she has a large shop on a main road with«black hair» beauty supplies a cheap waiting area and claims to know how to care for kinky or curly textured hair. The truth is they specialize in synthetic extensions and weaves and wigs. And you’d be better off ordering your products on-line from the states, they’d be cheap and newer and you’d have a better selection! At the end of the day Lola’s is crookery and I’ve met about 12 people in the passed 3 months to co-sign…don’t be one of them!
