The food here is amazing. Both times I’ve gone have been for Chinese food, though they also do a Korean BBQ which I’m looking forward to trying in the future. They have two different Chinese menus — one of authentic dishes and one of «Canadian-Chinese» food. There’s great stuff on both menus though. Tonight we ordered the hot & sour soup and sweet & sour chicken balls from the Canadian-Chinese menu and the gailan & mushrooms and fried lamb with cumin. The hot & sour soup was delicious. The heat was just perfect and while I generally like mine a little more sour, the flavour was still very nicely balanced. It was loaded with tofu, egg & chicken and there was a good amount of pea carrot & bamboo. The chicken balls were the best I’ve ever had. A generous portion of chicken coated with a thin layer of batter that was deep fried to golden crispiness. I’ve never had chicken balls that were crispy like that. The sauce was average — not the bright red syrupy stuff but a more reddish-orange jelly consistency that complimented the chicken balls nicely. I really enjoyed the gailan & mushrooms. The plate comes with gailan on one half and shitake mushrooms on the other. The gailan was cooked but still crisp and the mushrooms were sliced and cooked till soft & meaty in texture. The sauce was delicious. The lamb was sliced into thin sheets & stir fried with onion, cilantro, green onion, cumin & other spices. It’s a really flavourful and fragrant dish, probably not something you can eat too much of as it’s extremely bold. The lamb ranges from really tender to a little bit chewy, as some pieces have a bit of gristle running through them. All in all a really amazing dish. Service was a little slow, and food took a while to come out of the kitchen(we were starting to wonder if they’d forgotten about our lamb as it didn’t come out until we were finished with our other dishes.) If you don’t look Asian they’ll bring you the Canadian-Chinese menu and a plate with knife & fork. If you want the authentic menu or prefer a bowl & chopsticks you’ll have to ask. Prices were reasonable. Four dishes and an iced tea came out to $ 42 after tax, before tip. Rice was included with the meal no charge. I’m looking forward to going back. Also, to eating my left overs, as there was enough food to feed 6 or 7 people, much more than the two of us could manage.
