Always a pleasure. Toasty’s specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches — not just the plain wonder bread & kraft cheese slices kind(though that’s available too if you want it), but think more the kind of variety you’d expect of a panini shop. And then some. Wait times can be lengthy especially at the busier times of day, so it’s a good idea to phone your order in beforehand if you’re in a hurry. Salads are large and made any way you like, fresh and delicious. I recommend choosing the marble rye bread for whichever sandwich you get — sandwiches are a nice hefty size and flavourwise I haven’t had a miss yet(I’ve tried the Salted Tomato, the Pilgrim, the Fiesta, the Reuben, and the Prime Rib so far). If I had one gripe it would be that sides are a little high in price, but the quality certainly matches it so I can’t complain too hard.

«A restaurant that specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches?!», I exclaimed when I first heard about this place, «They do know a grilled cheese sandwich is one of the easiest things in the world to make, right?» But Toasty’s is so much more than just grilled cheese sandwiches. It’s about exotic sandwiches that use cheese as a central component. It’s also about really great salads and soups(which you can order separately or as a combo). It’s also about owners who are in the place 90% of the time making sure you get the best possible service. It’s about a lot of great stuff, really. Toasty’s main feature is a work of art. There’s over 20 different styles of sandwiches that you can order, here. With all kinds of different flavor combinations that are so delicious that I have made it my mission to try every one of them. That’s a testament for the quality of the food, right there. I am notorious for finding a favorite dish at a restaurant and then just ordering it over and over and never varying from it. There are places in this town that just see me walk in and ask: «Your usual, Rob?» and I just nod. I’m almost like Norm on «Cheers». But all these different styles of sandwiches are so enjoyable that I can’t just settle on one of them. I have to keep trying a different one every time I come in. What Toasty’s is really about is two really dedicated sisters who are determined to serve amazing food that’s a little different from what you’re normally going to find. It’s a gem in a part of town that is already full of great restaurants(and a few duds that make those gems all the more shiny). Don’t be swayed by the simplicity of its central premise. This is a place you definitely want to try.

Modern and modest meal spot right in downtown Windsor. Prices seemed reasonable for the size and taste of the sandwich I had, and I appreciated that the particular sandwich, chicken parmesan, was not slathered in Italian sauce as is often the case at other restaurants. I’ll keep this place in mind for future trips over the border!

I met a friend for lunch and came to Toasty’s. This was my first time here and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I believe Toasty’s has been here for just over a year and I hope they are here to stay. I remember a couple of other restaurants in this space, but neither lasted very long. The concept of Toasty’s is unique grilled cheese sandwiches. They have 20 – 30 different types, including a «mystery melt». Prices range, depending on the ingredients, but none are overly expensive, especially considering the size of the sandwiches. You can have your sandwich on white, marble rye or whole grain. For sides, they have daily soups, salads(which also come in entrée size), chips and a homemade macaroni salad. The one qualm I have is that to make a «combo» you only have a choice of macaroni salad, chips or coleslaw with your pop. I would have liked to have a small soup option rather than having to buy a medium sized soup and pop separately. That being said, they also have a nice«pick 2» option, where you choose between ½ a salad, ½ a sandwich and ½ a bowl of soup. When I came with my friend I really wanted to try the original grilled cheese, but thought I would try something a little more adventurous. I had the«Olympian» which contained mozarella, gyro meat, feta, onion and tomato. I made it a combo and chose the macaroni salad. Everything was incredibly tasty. The flavours in the sandwich were great. The bread was nice and crisp, and I sure was full afterwards. Like I said, I hope this place is here to stay. It’s a great concept for lunch or even dinner. Thumbs up!
