They were able to fit my large group in at the last minute for a birthday celebration and everyone had a great time. I had the clams & mussels with a side order of the baked Brussel Sprouts — yum! The Brussel Sprout side was large for $ 5 and I loved how crispy and savoury/salty it was — better than fries(although their fries are good too). My friend had the chicken waffles, which he really liked. At the end of the night, the birthday girl noticed her Mai Tai was marked as complimentary on her bill. I thought this was a nice touch! We’ll definitely be back.

We walked in to this place off the street, and what a great decision that was. The atmosphere was bustling and being a busy Friday night without having reservations, we ended up sitting at the bar. Our bartender was absolutely lovely, and I wish I had gotten her name. For drinks I had a few of the tiki cocktails and the other half stuck to whiskey sours. We both enjoyed our respective drinks, and the presentation on the tikis was well done(think flaming sugar cubes in a half a frozen lemon!). As for food, we shared The Greatest Hits vol One, with a side of Mac and cheese(note: this meal is already HUGE, but I couldn’t pass up m&c). I have never had a meal that included so many of my favourite things. Crunchy, fried brussel sprouts. Truffle fries. Corn and green onion waffles with perfectly cooked chicken drizzled with chili maple syrup. A fully loaded hamburger. Delicious all around. Also note that upon arrival you are given a bag of truffle chips. Ask for white lightning to go with. We will definitely return.

Absolutely amazing. My new best in Victoria. The service is good, but the gem is the food. The chef is fantastic, and presentation is first class.

This restaurant is perfect for each of the meals we had there. First time we sat outside and it was very enjoyable. The staff serving were attentive and hung out for a bit without being concerned about rushing back to the inside. We are from California and service is not the same. The menu choices are unique and very well prepared.

Such a cool place with an interesting and unique menu. Loved the idea of the shared dinner set up, but we just weren’t hungry enough to go for it. Husband had the ribs and I had Brussel sprouts and the chowder with two HUGE glasses of wine. The chowder was nice and fresh, not too thick. Brussels were a bit dry unfortunately, I like then crispy but maybe they needed some more oil or something… Would definitely go back if we visit again!

Excellent experience, very friendly staff! Meatballs were amazing… sauce was spicey and flavorful. The«Painkiller» mixed drink was exceptional!

Chicken tacos were really yummy but you get very little for the price.

Excellent burger made with a brioche bun and truffle mayo. Four levels of hot sauce, I made it to two. The local brew, Hoyne Pilsner was great. Would definitely be back. Loved it.

Went there late night on a Saturday for dinner(10ish). It was dead but took a chance and ordered delicious tiki drinks, caprese salad and Mac. Mac is to die for. Caprese better than expected. But entire place somehow smelled like manure. Despite that, still worth it. To quote my girlfriend«Maybe just hold your nose.» After that we would def go back, but get something to go.

Enjoyed the place and the atmosphere. The menu options were great and the service was prompt and kind. Enjoyed the Korean pork belly tacos and fried Brussel Sprouts. These were just smaller dishes. The big ones looked great and there were even option for sharing.

Have you ever had chicken on waffles for dinner? I hadn’t before coming to N48. As weird as this meal may sound, it was delicious. The server was very helpful in giving insights into what his favorite picks on the menu were. He was very nice and friendly, albeit his timing to check on the status of our meal was always directly in the middle of a conversation. I very much enjoyed the tuna tataki appetizer(very unique sauce, served with apple slices), and the chicken on waffles. Both dishes were very unique, but the flavors worked out well.

Duck wings! Seriously… who does duck wings??? These were beautifully braised and so tender, with a rich, flavourful sauce. I was in heaven with every bite! The only thing I would change is to add a bit more sauce to the plate, and next time I will go for the hotter variety. The french onion soup was also a thing of beauty! The broth is cooked for hours sealed in a mason jar, and then unsealed tableside and poured over the bread/cheese. The flavour was out of this world. I have recommended North 48 to many friends, and all have come back with glowing reviews and thanks for the recommendation!

Went in based on perfect reviews. Unfortunately the meal was much better on the menu than on he plate. Meatloaf did it seem fresh and the cheese curd mashed potatoes were bland. Server was amazing, but sorry I relied on all of those 5 star ratings.

Looking to enjoy a great wine selection, unique, quality food AND some 80s cartoons, all in one place? Sit in the bar area of North 48 and you’ll have all your wishes fulfilled! :) While I don’t know if it’s a standard procedure — there were cartoons playing on the one TV above the bar, and our server was quite encouraging of requests — telling us that pretty much every cartoon was available, if the circa 1985 Thundercats wasn’t our cup of tea… totally fun! Atmosphere aside, the food was pretty phenomenal as well! We tried: –Tuna tataki: paired with a black sesame aioli and was comparable to some of the dishes I’ve gotten at high end sushi restaurants –Mac and cheese: full of so much cheese that you could easily pull a metre long string off of it and still keep eating :) –Duck in a jar: WOW. That’s all I can say. What an absolutely novel way of preparing duck leg… put it in a mason jar with broth and some veggies, and then slow cook it for 8 hours. Definitely worth trying! Highly recommend it!

(I wrote this review last summer and thought it posted… it hadn’t — so here it is now). Okay…I can’t even IMAGINE a bad review of this place unless it was put there by a competitor(which happens!), The food at North 48 is some of the best my friend and I have EVER eaten — we ate there both nights we were in Victoria marveling at our luck we happened upon it. Everything was superior, just incredible… from the unbelievably great flavors, creatively and thoughtfully prepared(it’s. Just. The Best!!) to the really, really great service, to the… okay, I keep going back to THATFOOD! I recommend the tuna on the Himalayan rock salt appetizer and the Edamame(omg!), the Thai Lettuce Wraps, the… you know what? I recommend the whole menu — you can only go right! We are back in the states now pining for No. 48. What a talented genius they have for a chef — that’s all I can say. And the prices? This is a five star restaurant without the five star prices. My friend and I would consider returning to Victoria just to savor more meals at No. 48! What a luscious, delicious experience. Please open something in San Francisco gifted people whoever you are who opened this restaurant and who chose this menu! Kudos and congratulations for doing it right! When will we see your chef on Iron Chef? WooHoo and as good as it gets… is right on!

Great comfort food and drinks at North 48 in downtown Victoria which we stumbled upon. We were too full for food but will have to return for their comfort food menu soon. The cocktails were great and they have happy hour starting at 10pm for beer and tiki drink special. Surprisingly it wasn’t very busy. One con was that the service staff is not very knowledgeable about anything on drinks menu. Value 3.5÷5 Atmosphere 3.5÷5 Service 3.5÷5 Quality 3.5÷5 14⁄20

Yes, yes, yes. We REALLY lucked out with this find. We were wandering downtown and looking for something with good beer and good food. We realized the main road wasn’t going to cut it, and so took a random side street and found… this. My boyfriend was thrilled to try local beers he hadn’t had before. We were both thrilled by the delicious food. I LOVE meatloaf and order it often. This was the best meatloaf I’ve even eaten.(Sorry, mom!) It was stuffed with apples and spinach and cheese… so just when you thought it was good, it got better. I was also a huge fan of my salted watermelon salad. Repeatedly throughout the dinner we kept commenting that we wished there was a restaurant like this in our hometown. The only downside is that the prices were a bit steep — but I have no idea if that’s normal for the area or not.(We were in town for just a few hours on a cruise ship.)

They’ve nailed it: very high quality casual dining. You don’t find a place like this very often. The servers are super chill, but well trained, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food is very high quality in concept, presentation, and taste. The menu is diverse enough for a first date or a first anniversary. If the great servers weren’t enough, the floor manager actually spends time making sure your experience was good. I don’t live in Victoria, but if I did, I’d go here often.

I didn’t realize how new this place was until now! I was here last weekend with a small group and noticed it was a little bit empty. Makes sense. My friends ordered a ton of food and there was a lot of sharing happening. I’m a lame-o vegetarian though so I was kinda stuck with ordering sides(aside from one dish that didn’t sound like something I wanted). I went with a side of mac and cheese, and a side of fried brussels sprouts. Both were awesome! Especially the mac and cheese. Despite how full everyone else was, they picked at my dishes as well and we all thought the food was great. The others ordered a bunch of stuff like mussels/clams/fries, crabcakes, roasted bone marrow, chicken & waffles, french onion soup. I think that’s all… It seemed like everything was a hit! The only iffy thing was the roasted bone marrow, but that was a texture thing and it was a hit with half the group. Decent beer list. You can order table growlers here! We ordered a growler of P49’s Old Boy and a bunch of cocktails. Everything was fantastic. And they make a great Old Fashioned. The staff are super awesome and friendly too!
