This place is on point. Warm, well paced, well seasoned and always just what we’re craving. Thank you.

Awesome food and services. Their skewers taste absolutely amazing. some of the dish come with lemon and if you put little bit citrus on those skewers with sea-salt, you are in heaven!!! Must try!

Zakushi is a ton of fun and offers super tasty skewers! You’ll be literally eating skewers for the entire dinner. I’m a fan of foods such as liver, chicken heart, gizzard, etc. So if you’re the same, go crazy! For all the meat skewers, you have the choice to choose 2 seasonings: salt or soy sauce. I always stick with salt because I think you’ll be able to fully enjoy the char and taste of the meat. They also have really good veggie skewers. The mochi rice with cheese, and asparagus with cheese are awesome. Doubt they have these kinds of food anywhere else. Super fun place to have some beer and sake ;) Make sure to make resos cause I doubt you’ll find seats without it.

Excellent ventilation for a yakitori joint. No trace of smoke at all. Superb wings! Very good Premium tongue, hearts, mochi with cheese. So so: Corn(undercoocked a bit), duck. Skip the normal tongue(dry), gizzard(tough), prime rib(gone bad), lamb chop(tough). Mochi ice cream dessert was great though.

VANCOUVER’S BESTJAPFOOD for me! I have never felt so compelled to write a positive review this fast. Currently still sitting in the restaurant, just finished my meal LOL. My boyfriend and I tried: Premium beef tongue(MUSTTRY) Tsukune with daikon Duck breast Chicken thigh P-toro Uzura maki(MUSTTRY) Mochi maki(MUSTTRY) Butter shoyu grilled rice ball(MUSTTRY) Oden(perfect for cold weather) Ikura Mentaiko Meshi(I LOVEIT) Basically everything we tried tasted above average plus it’s affordable! Times like this is why I love Vancouver. Seattle needs to have more places like this!

Delicious and authentic, is all I can say. It’s small and it’s packed, which can take a toll on the service. Like when you enter, you might not be noticed right away. But it’s worth it. Better bang for the buck than Guu as far as I’m concerned, though it’s not as hip. We enjoyed both but the fact that Zakkushi had mostly Japanese diners and Guu had mostly non-Japanese kind of says it all.

This place was hoppin close to midnight but we managed to sneak an order in before the kitchen closed. Everything ordered — from takoyaki to the skewer sampler was so juicy, tender and good. In a way I was happy they didn’t let me sub out one item in the sampler for another cuz I got to try and enjoy something I normally wouldn’t eat. I ordered my other skewer anyways and the one with sesame oil, garlic and chili is a winner. Could eat that sauce on rice with any meat and veggie any day!

Yakibiku at its best. Great choices also of two combo platters, ranging from chicken hearts and liver over beef tongue to the more conventional beef, chicken, pork and veggie skewers and kobe beef tsukune. Get reservations as the place is about to burst already at 5.30 when they open. One(very sad) thing to improve: they don’t make their Takoyaki themselves, which resukts in them containing too lttle Octopus and being overy fatty because of the deep-frying instead of frying as a cooking technique.

Been here many times and I have to say, I have never disappointed once. Their food is delicious. Apparently, every time I come just order skewers but this time I had their sashimi and was amazed at how fresh they were. Only one thing is that I find that they are a bit short staffed. There was a couple times, we tried to ask for another honey lemon soda and it was quite difficult to get a hold of a waitress. Its seems like once you ordered, they assumed you don’t need them anymore. This place is always super busy. I love the fact that this place takes down your name and when a table is available they will call you. So you are not standing there to wait forever.

Reminded me of yakitori from street vendors when I lived in Ropongi. The service was good even though the place was busy. Tables are small so prepare to get close. But have a great time… the food is great. Every skewer I had was very good. Only exception was the chicken teriyaki and sea salt. It was dry and lacked flavor. Good thing the sauce was great. My favorites were the Meshing Yaki and lamb chops.

Zakkushi set: The Momo was my favourite of the set. It was chicken thigh that was moist and flavourful. The Umeshiso Yaki is also chicken thigh, but I didn’t enjoy this one. It had a plum sauce that I found to be too sweet. The Me Maki was garlic stubs wrapped with pork. The garlic stubs had a similar texture to green beans and did not much garlic flavour. The pork had good flavour, but it was very thin and there was not much of it. The P-toro was good, but not really memorable. The Oropon beef was my least favourite. It was dry and did not have a lot of flavour. Chicken heart Very pleasant flavour. Tender and juicy. Chicken gizzard Definitely an interesting texture. It was crunchy, but not in a bad way. Good flavour. Gyu tongue My favourite skewer of the visit. The beef tongue had good chewy texture, but was also juicy and tender at the same time. Also great flavour. This is a nice place to chill and socialize while having a few snacks, but I would not come here if I intend to get full because you would have to order a ton of skewers. My bill ended up being a little under $ 20 and I had to get some more food elsewhere. Seating was a little cramped as my table was 2 inches away from the next table. Overall, I would recommend any of the chicken skewers and the beef tongue. I give this place 3.5 stars, but it would be a 4 if the seating was less cramped and the quantities were better.

This place is like being transported to the robatas in Japan! Get the Zakkushi yakitori set for best value. You get 5 skewers – a medley of beef, pork, chicken – for just $ 9.50. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. I personally like the sea salt option best when you get a choice. They make the best grilled rice balls; crispy outside, soft inside. I like the butter shoyu. One was just not enough to satisfy the palate so be sure to order two. Be adventurous and order up. But beware that the tantalizing skewers will fill your stomach without your realizing it until you are stuffed. Service was very good. The nice lady took our orders quickly and the food arrived one plate after another at a perfect pace. Make reservations or you’ll have a wait on your hands.

Yakitori style places aren’t that common in Vancouver so the Zakusshi chains have a slight monopoly here. There’s nothing great about the place but nothing bad as well. Mediocre at best. Pricey for what you get, incredibly easy to spend over $ 40 for 2 people. Service could be improved upon as it is always hit or miss. My favorites here are the buttered corn, asparagus wrapped with pork & fat pork belly skewers. Thumbs up for those dishes.

Very disappointed mostly with the restaurant’s service. The food wasn’t that special either. My boyfriend and I ordered a chicken bowl and it came cold. When we told the server about the situation she seemed like she didn’t want to take the bowl… I also asked for more sauce or kimchi for my order but she simply argued«it’s not cooked that way». We didn’t get an apology for the cold food either. I think they take their customers for granted because they are busy all the time. ALSO when we ordered more food including the dessert, they brought the dessert BEFORE the savoury items… Ridiculous!!! Overall food is okay but the service definitely takes away from that«okay» food. I would stick with the Guu and Gyu Kaku for better food and service.

This place is dangerous. Couldn’t stop eating those skewers! Low points for the waitresses. They didn’t seem to know what they were doing and they messed up our order at least twice.

I was disappointed by the yakitori here. Compared to what I had in Kyushu, the chicken skewers at Zakkushi generally lacked crispiness and flavour(I had the breast, hearts, gizzards, and wings). I also ordered daikon/egg/noodles in broth(I don’t remember the name of this dish). I was sad that they drizzled a whole ton of thick, sweet, dark sauce on top of it that just overpowered the broth. I don’t know what they were thinking there. The wait staff was very nice, and the décor made me feel like I was in Japan. I just wish I enjoyed the food more.

i’ve been here 4 – 5 times in the last 5 years. The service is consistently good, the food very tasty, and the atmosphere always pleasant. It’s an undemanding, unassuming place where one can relax and try some small portions while drinking from cocktails the staff have created, or opting for a beer.

Tonight was old school, hot fresh goodness with gooey cheese tsukune, ice cold beers — mochi and lots of little treats. Fun room, excellent service! Those guys took my son’s stroller to the back — even though it couldn’t fold up. They made us feel welcome. Happy autumn Friday night noshing! Very glad, g
