I just moved in the area only 2 blocks away. There is 3 places for sushi all within 200 ft of each other. I chose Yagoto because it had a platter that was in my price range. I am glad I chose them. Family owned and operated and the whole family was there smiling and being very hospitable. The food is super fresh and it’s simple! Mmmm! I will stick with the and make them my sushi place so should you!

A very pleasant surprise with their quality, amongst all sushi restaurants around on this stretch of West Broadway. Tiny space that serves up tasty and reasonably priced offerings! Will definitely return for more.

Ordered a Special A to go and was a little surprised how light the takeout bag was. Turns out rice wasn’t included and miso soup container was only half full. Took a sip and found the soup to be one of the saltiest I’ve tasted in a while. Chicken teriyaki was also swimming in watery but again quite salty(soy) sauce. Rest of the meal components are your standard ‘authentic’ Japanese fare: sushi, sashimi, and gomaae etc. Bonus point for using wild salmon.

Wow. Totally floored that on westside, to get this quality from an authentic Japanese chef, this is my go-to from now on — before their prices go up. It’s insanity. Ordered Gyozas(lots of meat as per pic) and fresh: not like some places where you can tell the edges are chewy from a hasty defrost. House Roll: fresh pieces of sashimi & a light special sauce Real crab cali roll: the best I’ve had Tomago: made in house, not as sweet as I would’ve liked it but still good. Free wifi! Not sure if it’s date worthy, a bit minimalist décor but perhaps for casual. Quite a selection of menu items but don’t expect any over the top special rolls with crazy sauces, they’re not Korean or Chinese haha.

Yagota is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Vancouver! They always serve the freshest ingredients and their default salmon is wild not farmed. It is a family run business; and the owners are Japanese(from a town where udon was born!) so their menu is quite authentic. Everyone I have taken here has always gone back.

Kitsune udon, California roll, BC roll. Temaki got greedy and prices went up like 20% so I tried this place out and it was pretty good. Decent pricing for a solid lunch. That said, some of the rice was peeling off the sushi and he didnt compress it enough. Also the BC roll lacked the sweet soy glaze I’m used to so it was a little under flavored. 3.5 food, +0.5 for excellent service!

I’ve never had such fresh sushi in my life, not for this price anyways! The sushi here is simple, but it’s made with utmost care and you can taste the difference. Especially noticeable to me was how perfect the rice was – oftentimes with sushi the rice is too tough, and the chewy texture ends up competing with the contents of the roll. Here the rolls are perfectly balanced, the flavours and textures blending together into a harmonious whole. I was seriously impressed, and if I lived closer to this restaurant I would be going here regularly. Be aware that this place is TINY, so if you have a group you’d better call ahead.

Best Sushi in the area. Have been here 3 times and it has yet to disappoint. Fresh food, clean resto and great service. Been to all the others in the area and what is passed off as fresh fish in other establishments would be turned down by a cat. Great food and lovely family run business.

I thought it was just ok, nothing exceptional. The server had no clue what to do. She didn’t pick up the empty plates as we ate or checked to see if we required anything. I’ve had much better elsewhere.

Great little sushi restaurant. Very easy to miss from the street but well worth it. The chef takes great pride in his work and it shows on the plate. I’ll definitely be back again!

I’m going to miss my little sushi man. We have moved to east Van and I may have to pick up take out just because I’m going to miss it this much. This place makes the best sushi. Honestly. My favorites are the negitoro, ika shiso, ume shiso, house roll, chopped scallop, and natto roll. I don’t know why people go to the horrible all you can eat non japanese places next door. The rice is the most important part of any sushi as is the freshness of the fish. Not only are they excellent here but the presentation is fantastic. I think sushi lovers in this city should support authentic people who know how to make real sushi. I’ve eaten at almost every sushi place in Vancouver that’s considered more than decent and it rates up with the very best of the best!

Went there recently. Small but clean Japanese restaurant with a genuine Japanese sushi chef! Food was high quality but the portions were small. Prices were reasonable. Doesn’t serve liquor.

Splendid. Just splendid. I’ve become a regular. The owner truly knows his sushi. Every time I’ve walked through the doors of this quaint and charming restaurant, I’ve been welcomed with melt in your mouth sashimi, flavourful perfectly rolled rolls, and divine green tea. I think half the experience is watching the owner do his trade. He is this lovingly polite Japanese gentlemen that you can almost picture behind the counters of a fine restaurant in Tokyo. Always with a smile on his face, he produces the best sushi I’ve had in Vancouver. That is truly a feat. Might I suggest his dinner special? Green salad(to die for dressing!), gomae, bc roll, 2 pieces each of salmon & tuna sashimi and chicken teriyaki? At $ 16.00 its truly a great dinner and more than filling. Or maybe the amazing house roll? Or scallop roll? Or… or… omg just eat everything.

There was only one other table when we came for dinner on a Saturday. Their menu is simple and small, which I like. We ordered a selection of nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, a spicy chopped scallop roll and miso soup. The seafood is distinctively fresh — that is what has to set Yagoto apart from its competitors. Particularly, the chopped scallop was not doused in red spicy sauce, but mildly heated with a spicy mayo that still let the delicate scallop shine. One criticism would have to be that the rice on the spicy tuna on the other hand was a tad excessive, making it difficult to detect the morsel of tuna amidst the sea of rice. It must be said that while the seafood was great, the rice didn’t quite measure up. On our visit, I am sad to say it was a bit dry and could have used more seasoning. On a brighter note, their tea was quite surprisingly good and our lovely server shared with us their not-so secret ingredient. I must have guzzled down 5 cups of tea during our meal! There is still room for improvement, but overall a good sushi experience. Particularly the woman who served us was so friendly, attentive, and welcoming… we kept saying to ourselves«wasn’t she just the sweetest lady?!?» as we walked home.

Really great sushi for a really great price. All the ingredients taste very fresh. Service is very attentive and friendly. This is my go-to lunch spot in the area when I’m looking for a quick bite to eat!

This is a sushi place run by Japanese, normally that would a guarantee for the quality of sushi. It did not let us down indeed. We ordered agedashi tofu, dinner combo and 2 different kind of rolls. All are very fresh and delicious especially agedashi tofu which is done in a special way. Would highly recommend if you want to find a better quality sushi place than the all you can eat type, and if you do not to want to be overcharged for some really mediocre sushi in this neighborhood.

High quality ingredients in the sushi, very tasty rice, humble chef, great service. The thing that stands out is their freshness of ingredients. We asked for Brown Rice but after the chef smelled or tasted it he said they weren’t able to do that — SUPER honest. Recommend this place overall.
