I’ve been coming here for 3 – 4 years now to get my eyes checked. Dr. Woo is great and very knowledgeable. He is very receptive to questions and will quote studies to support his response(I have never gone to an optometrist that have done that before!). He is very quick but still does a thorough job. My annual eye exam usually ends within ~30−40 minutes(this includes checking my eye prescription, looking into the back of my eye, checking my intraocular pressure, and looking into any issues that I have brought up). In addition to the eye exam, this clinic also offers soft contact lens fitting. Now, this was a concept that was new to me. I used to get my contacts at optical stores and have never been told of the risks of wearing a contact lens that doesn’t «fit» my eyes(especially those coloured ones). So I did a fitting and got a contact lens prescription from them. Since I don’t wear contact lenses often, they were reasonable and said that they would reassess my contact lens prescription annually at no extra charge. Additionally, they often offer me free samples of contact brands that I want to try. Their prescription glasses cost is a bit pricier than certain optical stores but is still within reason. Overall, I think their service is excellent. There is a reason why I have stayed with them for this long!

I am really disappointed with the service I received there today. Everyone was fairly nice and all — it was more an issue of being deceived about prices. I mentioned on the phone that I’m a university student and they told me I could have a student rate of $ 75. Awesome. I get there and they tell me that since I’m out of province I actually can’t get the student rate. I think in a city like Vancouver it’s ridiculous to assume everyone is from BC — there are so many international and out-of-province students. At that point, what could I do instead of paying the $ 100? Honestly, I wouldn’t have gone there if I had known there was no student rate. I feel deceived and betrayed. I know $ 25 doesn’t sound like a lot but when you’re a student and you don’t really have a lot of money it makes a huge difference. Also, to get fitted for contacts you have to commit to a bunch of follow up appointments(unsurprisingly more money). I don’t like the idea of being locked in to pay for something I might not feel is necessary. I don’t think I’ll come back here ever again the whole experience makes me think I could probably find a better, or at least a more honest, place of business.

Their service level is better and I am happy to report that I haven’t had any more issues with booking an appointment the last couple times.
