Tried the kniches today. A bit pricey at $ 3 for one, but no doubt they’re delicious. Yummm

So first off — this is now Vivo Deli and Knish: and secondly, it’s kind of really awesome. I found this gem on the hunt for a sandwich under $ 8.00.(Seriously, kerrisdale? Get over yourself!) and taaaaa daaaaa! Corn beef sandwiches, smoked turkey with pesto aioli, chicken salad, tuna salad… all come with 100g of filling(love that they advertise that) and all are $ 5(inclusive of tax). But sandwiches are not their specialty. It’s the Knish. What is a Knish you may ask?! It’s a little pastry stuffed with mash potato and various other fillings — ie spinach and feta, beef & onion etc and served warm. What ethnicity do our lovey friends the knish hail from? They’re Jewish, and they’re awesome. And apparently they are a lot of work and therefore not as famous as they should be. Buy them hot, or frozen to go. nom, $ 2.75 each, double nom. The owner is pretty much the cutest, sweetest man there ever was. We reminisced about my growing up learning to make challah, discussed the ins and outs of knish and business. He’s a gem — he alone would make me come back to try more of their menu. It’s a little hole in the wall so don’t walk by and miss it. Definitely worth stopping by.

Vivo! Gelato has downsized from its West Blvd location near White Spot to this small storefront next to London Drugs. The new location should provide plenty of foot traffic for those folks making their pharmacy – liquor store – sushi rounds. In addition to the eponymous gelati, the store now offers the standard variety of coffee drinks(beans are from the Belgian fair-trade company Puro) and an assortment of baked goods and panini. While I can’t say that I’m a fan of Vivo’s gelato(it never tastes quite right), I hope they will keep improving since Kerrisdale could use more frozen treats.
