* Freezer burns galore * Picture this: Hot summer day. The sign for gelato glowing like a lighthouse of hope. In I went, and looked at the varieties finally settling on asking for a taste. Glad I did, as it was horribly freezer burned. Ok, on to the next backup flavour. Tasted it. Horribly freezer burned. Yikes. I should have walked out. But I persisted and tasted a third. It wasn’t freezer burned and I was so happy I ordered a scoop without thinking about it too carefully. But after getting a cup and sitting down to eat it I realized that comparisons can be deceptive. It was just better than the freezer burned ones, but was too icy and a bit weak on the chocolate flavour. Overall I definitely won’t get pulled in by the siren song of a gelato sign here on a hot day again!

There are plenty of coffee shops and sushi restaurants in Kerrisdale, but only one gelato store(for now?). They have a nice selection of flavours, and the service is attentive and friendly. Lots of choices including paninis, coffee, and gelato shakes. Unfortunately my scoop was a stale. It didn’t have the creamy texture and had a lot of freezer burnt bits in it. I’ve definitely had better. Maybe I will sample my choices first. Overall, a good place – just needs to be more consistent.

Nice find in Kerrisdale, excuse me, Arbutus Ridge. Some great choices of gelato include blood orange, lychee and guava. The smiling guy behind the counter educated me about gelato too, pointing out that flavours like mango are 100% real mango, unlike some ice creams which are powder-based. Always good to learn something new. Oh, and they make shakes too!
