About 6 months ago, I was ruing the cushions on my couch. I’d turned them a lot over the past 10 years, but they were floppy and always sloping towards the centre. As much as I’d like a new couch, I don’t have the money right now. So I did surgery on my couch cushions, and realized that the centre is foam. And then I remembered this place called, ever so descriptively, The Foam Shop. I went in with my measurements, and they immediately offered two types of firmer foam to replace what was in my cushions. The service was good — they were great at explaining the differences between types of foam — and I was easily able to remake my couch cushions at about a tenth of the cost of a new couch. It’s exactly what they say — it’s a foam shop. In how many other cities could you find someplace so specialized? And there are many uses for foam. I was happy with their expertise & selection.

As far as stores filled with foam go, this one delivers what it promises. I visited to look for some yoga blocks and found just what I needed. Then, I was able to give a birthday hint to my boyfriend who then successfully purchased the correct yoga blocks. I’m thinking the helpful foam ladies had a hand in this. My following visit to buy some foam for a laptop case also was a grand success. My pre-requisites were thin, dense, closed-cell foam and the helpful foam ladies came through again offering varying thicknesses for my crafty plans. Side note: I also learned that foam is made from oil and prices will soon be increasing in line with oil prices. Apparently barrel increases haven’t fully filtered down to the foam level YET. So the advice of the foam ladies: Buy your foam now.
