Hands down the best Japanese restaurant in the area and one of the best in the city! Excellent service, superb quality and very traditional dishes.

We came here today to celebrate a belated father’s day but I have been many tea before. I have always had a fabulous, unique meal here– an extensive menu and great specials. The staff here is also very lovely, welcoming and attentive. I always enjoy the spicy agedashi tofu and pressed prawn sushi– give them a try! Today we tried out the crunchy spicy tuna roll and it was delicious. Worth giving a try if you are looking for a slightly fancier Japanese restaurant dining experience.

Worth every penny. Try their nigiris(tuna belly, scallops are my fave), tuna tataki, grilled black cod, katsu don, superior grade beef teriyaki, grilled squid and top it with animitsu(their green tea ice cream is sooooooo good. This is a family run business so you will see the difference in the quality of their service. Must try restaurant in Vancouver especially if you’re near UBC area. A little tip the place isn’t that big and it gets packed during dinner time. Best to call and reserve so you don’t have to wait to try their yummy dishes.

The food is ok. I’ve had better sushi in Vancouver. It’s better than most but still some things on the menu is average. But is it because we are Asian? They weren’t very friendly to us. And my order came way later than everyone else’s. I don’t think we will be back.

Takumi, while being a newcomer to the West 10th restaurant choices, is no newbie when it comes to sushi. The owners have operated previously in West Vancouver and in Burnaby/Coquitlam and it shows when they have dedicated customers coming in on a weeknight from across the Burrard Inlet. It has a cozy feel despite the stylish interior, due to it being a family-run establishment I came here with the husband for a special treat for his birthday and we enjoyed our dinner in the tasteful, nicely appointed room(previous inhabitant was En Japanese Restaurant, another higher-level Japanese restaurant). At the front you are quickly greeted by the hostess(the wife of the sushi chef). The menu is extensive and we spent quite a while poring over it trying to figure out what would be best. We decided on a mix of robata and sushi items; the grilled beef tongue is quite juicy and the miso-marinated sablefish is soft and tasty. I would have liked to eat it with a bit of rice but we were saving room for the sushi. All of the fish is skillfully prepared, and though it is not a seafood item, the tamago nigiri was also a very nice, light choice. We tried one of the daily specials: abalone sashimi. The taste is so delicate but I found it really pleasant to eat! The uni is also very fresh. Service is friendly and attentive, although sometimes there can be «back-ups» with the food as there is only one sushi chef(he does his job very well, so I can appreciate that they would want to keep all the expertise and not water-down the experience). This didn’t really bother us as we were planning on a leisurely meal. We were very happy with our meal and the husband found it a great way to cap off his birthday. Would return again for the special occasion(or a special excuse so I can come back sooner!)

While Vancouver boasts a plethora of Japanese restaurants, few can be called authentic and even fewer great, Takumi is one of the rare few. The restaurant’s cooked dishes is on par with those found in Tokyo and this restaurant receives my highest recommendation.

Friendly service, and good quality sushimi. Sushi rolls are average quality. Some dishes we tried were slightly on the salty side such as maguro yamakake, and the chef’s special tuna on deep fried rice. I have not tried their other locations but there are better Japanese restaurants at this prices.

Authentic Japanese food in Point Grey/UBC area! As you drive along Point Grey – you see lots of sushi joints(cheap, big portions but they are not run by Japanese people)… About a month ago, when I was getting Tim Hortons, I noticed that there was a Japanese restaurant across the street… decided to do try this restaurant out and its a decision I am so happy with! This is one of the few rare Japanese restaurants that serve CHAWAMUSHI(steamed egg), and what I really like about this place is that they do not use MSG and the ingredients are pretty fresh. Another thing that I usually order the SUKIYAKIHOTPOT, which is served with Kobe beef that is very crunchy and yummy. The staff are extremely polite and attentive too – always ready to refill your water or clear your dishes. Only downside is that its slightly expensive compared to the other sushi places… but I guess this is the price you pay for good food, including the rent.
