YUM. Hands-down best red bean buns I’ve ever had! The filling was evenly distributed throughout the bun, and the dough itself was so warm, fresh and chewy. I also got the tofu soaked in marinade, which was addicting and again some of the tastiest I’ve had. The kimchi cabbage was pretty good, but then again, I don’t have much experience with kimchi. Also, the man who helped me at the register was super friendly! NOTE: THISPLACEISCASH-ONLY. You will be sorrily disappointed if you show up at the register with a handful of delicious goodies, only to find that you can’t pay for them with your card.

I am not a high maintenance customer. I don’t need to be fawned over or engaged in conversation. Smiles are even optional. I do require that at least one word is spoken to me during my transaction though. I entered the bakery and found 2 customers and the clerk having a conversation in the middle of the aisle. I asked them to excuse me as they were blocking the aisle. They moved immediately without looking at me or breaking their conversation. The gentleman left the store and the clerk and the lady customer continued their conversation. I waited at the cash register while the lady customer paid for her purchases. Without making eye contact with me and while continuing chatting with the other customer, the clerk grabbed my purchases and rang them up. Since she obviously couldn’t be bothered to stop chatting for a second to even tell me my total I looked over at the cash register, saw the amount, put down exact change, grabbed my purchase which was now put in a bag and left. I do not understand Mandarin but the tone of the conversation was light-hearted so I don’t believe that the fate of the world was resting on their discussion. I forgive teenage sales clerks sometimes because their age-related level of self absorption is only surpassed by those of infants and toddlers, but this was a grown-ass woman who should have known better. So f-you Tachia Bakery, but damn, your egg tarts were good.

It’s weird that no one has said the most important thing about this place, it’s vegetarian!!! Most, if not all, buns and pancakes are filled with gluten or bean curd with delicious mixture of mustard green, shredded radish, glass noodles and more and oh, boy, are they awesome! I make every excuse to go here although it is not anywhere near my house. I got a bunch of pan fried goodies, steamed buns(whole wheat!) and sticky rice(5 grain!) and they were all hot at 1230. The ladies here are all very sweet and helpful and do not get annoyed when you point to each lovely doughball and ask«what’s in this one?» Even after the 12th time. Go early, they have many regulars and get cleaned out by mid afternoon. They are also closed on Sundays which I sadly discovered earlier this year.

The owner and staff are extremely friendly and helpful! A great chinese grocery/bakery store with lots of delicious goods! I am particularly found of the Almond cookies and the pineapple squares(very similar in taste to shortbread). The gyoza, spring rolls and sponge cake are also very good! I was happy to see fresh vegetables, enoki mushrooms and condiments as well! A great place to pick up lunch, dessert or a few groceries. I have heard they have great moon cake in September/October for the moon cake festival as well.

This is a small hole in the wall traditional taiwanese bakery located on MacDonald street in Vancouver. When you look at the outside of this place, it isn’t much and the inside isn’t much to look at either. The selection of food is modest. But, they make the most unbelievable buns and sandwiches ever !!! Fresh, soft, home made, and very affordable :) I have relatives visit from LA come all the way to Vancouver for this Bakery. Yes, I will be back again and again.

Well, ever since I lived in Singapore, I have had a love for coconut buns. Even though there are some great Chinese bakeries around town, I’ve always thought that they were too far away, and I couldn’t justify a trip just for pastries(ok, sometimes I still made the trip). Now I’ve found somewhere nearby! The pastry wasn’t too heavy and the coconut filling not too sweet. I’ve also tried a bunch of the other desserts there and I can tell you that they are also of very good quality. The taro and peanut buns are great. As a bonus, the place is also very reasonable and the woman who works there, who I think is the owner, is so incredibly nice. As it’s across from the ICBC centre, try to go in there for a snack or two while you’re around the area. It’s well worth it.
