I concur with everything Joseph H. has to say, but I think it’s worth mentioning that this place only accepts cash. Also, there’s not a lick of English anywhere inside, which can make ordering difficult for non-Chinese speakers. But don’t be discouraged from visiting, because the dumplings are definitely worth it. For the uninitiated, I would recommend trying the pork-and-cabbage dumplings or pork-and-chive dumplings. A bag of 50 will run you $ 9.50, including tax. Don’t forget to bring cash! I visited the shop on a Sunday and there was plenty of parking available right along Kingsway. As a bonus, they’re open until 6:30 on Sundays, too.

Something was lost in the translation of the Chinese name of this small frozen dumpling shop. Maybe«Dimsum Garden» Frozen Foods would be a better name. Do you like wonton? Do you like dumplings? Do you like taiwanese style sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf? Do you like taiwanese-style egg crepes? How about some of the best pork buns you’ve ever had in your life? The Lower Mainland has a lot of small hole in the wall joints that sell frozen dimsum in freezer bags. You’ll find them in all the asian food malls and supermarkets. But this shop is special. This shop is on a stretch of kingsway distinguished primarily by the presence of a Church’s Chicken on the corner of Slocan. I’m convinced that almost no ones knows about it, except the restaurants that order from there wholesale. Sweet Country makes most of its revenue in the restaurant wholesale business, supplying all their dimsum needs. Everytime that I’ve gone in, there’s been over a half dozen staff in the back making monstrous quantities of dumplings, buns, and chinese crepes/pancakes. The retail side seems to be minor gesture of gratitude for the members of the public who are in on the secret of the awesomeness of the frozen food here. This is not a restaurant. All they sell here are frozen dumplings, buns, and pancakes. But they are so good. Buy a bag of 50 dumplings for $ 9, take them home, boil them, pan-fry them. omg so delicious. Better than any other shop that i’ve known. They have taiwanese style wrapped sticky rice, but you have to special order them for pickup in a week or two. The lady will try to dissuade you from buying them if she doesn’t feel like making them or there are already too many on the waitlist. But these are worth the wait and the extra browbeating. Fragrant sticky glutinous rice with chunks of stewed soy sauce pork with shitake mushrooms and the salted duck egg yolk in banana leaf. Honestly, I’ve eaten these for every day for a week and still didn’t get tired of them. Parking is a hassle. I usually park on kingsway if its not during rush hour. They do speak english, but are much more comfortable in chinese. If you are heading home right away, I would recommend trying the freshly wrapped, not yet frozen dumplings. You have to cook them right away or freeze them right away though. But the taste is even better when its fresh than after its frozen. The shrimp wontons are really good too. You can also ask for the restaurant version of the shanghai xiao long bao. These supersized versions of the regular retail xiao long bao. Amazing and so delicious.
