We stumbled upon this gem last night tucked away in Kitsilano and around the corner from the ever popular bar«The Local». What’s great about this bar is that unlike The Local it wasn’t too crowded on a Friday night and had a real intimate feel. The perfect spot to bring a date. The amazing bartender Adam was so attentive and was great at recommending cocktails. After I told him that Gingerbread was my favourite he whipped up a cocktail that I nicknamed«the delicious» as it wasn’t on the menu and tasted like a heavenly alcoholic milkshake. The bar has a really comfortable and warm ambiance. There is outdoor seating for the summer months too. Although I wasn’t there for dinner, the seafood menu looked impressive and I’ll certainly be back to try that out!

Just plain bad food. The deep fried«Caesar Salad,» which came over-salted and drenched in oil was barely edible. Mussels soaked in an uninspired broth, which again was over salted. The fish sticks were really deep-fried fish-flavoured mashed potatoes.

Stopped in for cocktails and had a great experience. We went for dinner down the road and I realized I’d lost a bracelet. Called and next thing you know they were delivering it to our table at dinner. Above and beyond and so much appreciated. Smoked olives are a must!

Props to the staff who recommended the best drink(Amarito) that changed my view on egg white in cocktails! We had the octopus chips to share and my only regret is not ordering 5 servings of those. Seriously, they are AMAZING! I had the lobster roll which was good but I expected something a little bit ‘fancier’. However I tried a bit of my husband’s Angus steak and chickpea fritters which was super yummy and probably the dish I will pick next time. The place is warm, cosy and they play extremely good music(they had some folk/rock/indie tunes last night).

My second Dine Out Vancouver Festival restaurant was at Supermarine, a relatively new restaurant tucked away in Kitsilano in an area I was not even aware of. Located on Yew St and W 1st Ave, the restaurant is quite the hidden gem. The interior is very small, fitting around 35 diners, with a rustic charm. Their Dine Out Vancouver Festival menu was $ 30 so very reasonable, considering we were beyond full by the end of our meal. For appetizers, we ended up trying all three choices on the menu. I got the Smoked Whitefish, which was presented a little funky looking with their bottles of homemade hot sauce and crème fraîche served on the plate. On the side were buttered saltines to place your smoked whitefish on. We all really enjoyed this and it reminded me of Fable’s canned tuna. SP got the Crispy Brussels Sprout Salad with soy, honey vinaigrette and yogurt. I had a bite and the brussel sprouts were cooked to tender with nice crispy edges. I don’t usually like brussel sprouts, but these were delicious! SK got the Littleneck Clam & Ham Hock Chowder. It comes with oyster crackers and is topped with a green garlic pistou sauce, which is similar to a pesto. We also added on a side of Octopus Chips for around $ 9. Served in a jar, these were sliced octopus and fingerling potatoes battered and deep fried. A slightly spicy tomato aioli was served alongside for dipping and this made a great snack. The octopus was very tender and potatoes were nice and crispy. Too bad we found that there were way more potatoes than octopus. SP and SK both got the Salt Spring Island Mussels for their entrée. The mussels came with chorizo, fennel and were cooked in a smoky tomato broth. The mussels were plump and fresh. No empty shells in the bowl! A generous serving alongside with a huge bowl of fries and tartar sauce. The girls could barely make a dent in the fries after finishing the mussels! I sort of wanted the mussels as well, but being a foodie, I had to order something different, so I went for the Grilled Flat Iron Steak. The already sliced steak came on top of a nori potato purée with smoked fingerling potatoes and covered with watercress. The steak was cooked to a beautiful pink medium rare and was very tender. At first I thought the plate looked small, but there were actually a lot of meat and potatoes. Was definitely stuffed by the entrée! For dessert, the girls got the Chocolate Semifreddo. I stole a bite and really enjoyed it! A nice firm chocolate cake with toasted marshmallow, graham crumbs and smoked salt. For myself, I chose something different again and went for the Calamansi Lime Curd. When I saw it, I was pretty confused at what I had, but it turned out to be a lime curd with whipped ricotta, shortbread crumb, candied citrus and topped with cilantro. The flavours worked very well together with that herb taste coming through from the cilantro. The lime curd was quite sour but when mixed with the sweet ricotta, there was a nice balance. Not bad! Overall, we were quite impressed with the flavours of the dishes at Supermarine. Prices are also very reasonable and if you enjoy cocktails, they have a great list. Only downside was that our service started out pretty good, but at the end, apparently they had a huge 10 people reservation right after us, so they kept pushing all the diners along one side of the dining table to leave. Felt like the service lacked because of wanting to maximize capacity from Dine Out, so will need to come back on a regular day. Pros: — Great portions and reasonable prices — Flavours in dishes are unique Cons: — Service during Dine Out wasn’t very good — Seating was a bit tight(not sure if it’s like this during regular service) Price Range: $ 30/person(DOVF menu) 1: Terrible 2: Poor 3: Average 4: Good 5: Excellent Food: 4 Service: 3 Ambiance: 3.5 Parking: 3 Overall: 4

Here to enjoy dineout. Smoked fish for appetizer, mussels and flank steak for entrée is a must! Too bad I couldn’t enjoy the smoked oyster tartare this time!

Came in for brunch after seeing a plug from vancity buzz. Went in at around 1030 am on a Sunday and we were the only ones there in the small 30-ish seat restaurant. The place did gradually fill up as we were leaving the restaurant. Café Zen was busier next door. Organic coffee that was on the weaker side was served with free refills in a metal camping mug. We ordered the two Benedict dishes available on the menu: duck and homemade sausage between $ 14 – 16. The duck was well-marinated and the sausage had a strong corned beef taste. The amount of hollandaise sauce was generous and the hash browns were home fries-style and may be pre packaged with some added coarse salt and seasoning. Eggs were cooked as ordered. Overall, the breakfast was average to slightly above average with good service. We will not be returning as there are other restaurants worth trying and our breakfast was not interesting enough for a return visit.

Supermarine hosted us for a company Christmas Party this past weekend. We had an amazing evening(and early morning). I can’t really say enough about our experience. From the food, to the drink, to the staff, to the atmosphere– all of it was beyond expectation. Caryn the manager can only be described as amazing at her job and delightful to be around. Very accommodating but also professional. The food was outstanding and the extensive drink menu was impressive and delicious(plus the bartender was happy to discuss the drinks as he made them– some interesting stuff!). I would highly recommend Supermarine for a private event, and I’ll be back on my own for sure. Thank you Supermarine!

I had heard lots of positive things about supermarine but was a little disappointed with my food. The room was small but intimate. The service was great. Food however, really bland. It was beautifully presented but I left disappointed. My fish was overlooked and nothing in the plate stood out.

Had a great dinner here with 8 people last night. Did all the ordering as a group and it worked out well. Cod Fritters, the BREAD(def worth $ 6, so good), tempura crab and octopus were standouts. Ordered the Vegetable entrée as a veg option but was pretty boring and unnecessary. Cocktail menu is really great — ordered the Mule and was not disappointed. Would recommend going with 4 or more so you can order a bit of everything. Small restaurant though so probably needs reservations. I will be back!

I see that others liked the ramen vongole — I found it watery and relatively bland. The idea of putting breadcrumbs on the clams — and then putting them into broth — ?? Not sure how this can work. Oyster appetizer(not on menu) was to come with pieces of cornbread — there were about six 1-cm cubes; the ramps«kimchi» was delicious but there was just too little of it. I think the restaurant has potential — staff was wonderful, music a bit loud(but usually it is…) great location, but the food was a bit precious. To conclude, food is thoughtfully presented and service is also thoughtful, however perhaps more thought should go to what people really like to make this delightful spot successful in the long term: a little more of the ingredients promised, prepared in a more straightforward and flavourful way. My five cents.

My mom and I had a really great dinner here. The food was delicious; we had mussels, grilled octopus, the noodles, and a bunch of other goodness I can’t remember clearly enough. Portions were decent, perhaps on the smallish end of the scale. Service was solid: friendly and consistent, without being intrusive or fakely boisterous. The décor is neat and matches the theme, and while we were close to another table, we didn’t feel like we were packed in like sardines(sorry). Only not getting 5 stars because the wine recommendation was not very good. The white wine we had was over-chilled, and pretty acidic/green tasting for its price point. Would definitely go again!

Finally a modern seafood-centric menu, and a new anchor for the west side. Amazing energy.

A great new spot for kits, who doesn’t like seafood and cocktails? The food was excellent and the service was very good for a busy night. The server had a great wine rec, a Spanish white. I didn’t try the cocktails but the cocktail man behind the Diamond and Wildebeest is involved so it’s a safe bet that many delicious cocktails will be had here.

Wow! this place is as good as it gets! What a great addition to Kits! Everything was spot on, this is the only good place on Yew to get a tasty meal and unreal cocktail. Even late! Our bartender Adam was super friendly and knowledgable! Will be back!

Has potential to be a solid 4⁄5. Great ambiance. Food has a lot of potential. Good drinks(great selection of beers!) To start, I would recommend the octopus chips and the mussels. We also tried the heirloom tomato salad and the cod fritters, both were underwhelming. The cod fritters were on the dry side and could be improved. For mains, you must try the ramen vongole. I ordered the salmon and ended up reaching over the table and eating half of my fiancé’s ramen. The salmon was underwhelming. I like my salmon moist and JUST cooked but their salmon was definitely on the dry side. The ricotta agnolottis were a bit flavorless, overcooked where the stuffing was but somehow undercooked in other areas. The broth that came with the salmon, however, was delicious. Had the green snapper to drink. It was refreshing for a nice summer night. Overall, the service was good and most of the food was good. I’m definitely going back for the ramen vongole but I will give them a bit of time before heading back.

So good! The new reno is great– the bar is beautiful. Cocktails were fantastic and the food superb. Great portions, interesting flavours — creative and not the same-old seafood menu that you see around Vancouver. We can’t wait to go back!

The salmon was amazing. Perfect size portion for me. They offer a wide selection of creative and delicious cocktails and a well curated list of wines. Will definitely be back!
