Under new ownership. Looks like most of the old guard has now recently retired and a new owner has taken over the business. I went in the other day and they seemed pretty good and added some energy to the place. I will continue their 4 star rating with this review, but wanted to let people know. Looks like they have some plans for renos etc. It remains to be seen what the transition brings. If the new owners keep close to the formula of Sorrento over the years they should do well. The price has gone up to $ 19 now. Here’s hoping they don’t go too hipster!

My barber retired and it’s time to find another. How hard could it be? Two barbers were waiting for customers, when I arrived. The first had hair that looked like an old mop; I choose the second. He asked me if I wanted a trim. I started to reply that I wanted two inches on top and one inch one the sides and back. I could’ve(should’ve) repeated more of my former barber’s instructions, but he was in a hurry. «So, shorter.» Yep. After all, it was just a repeat of the hair cut that I had for weeks ago. I won’t dwell on how his clippers dug into my scalp because I really want to focus on my finished hair length. The top is about two inches. Check. The sides decrease from half an inch to bald. Actually one side is slightly longer than the other. Where can I rent a wig?

I came here for a basic cut one Saturday morning. I was very happy with the ambience, quality of the cut and the value. I will be back in a few months :-)

Tried several barbers in Vancouver & Burnaby since moving here, have been happy with some, not so with others, but the guy here(Mino, Milo?) that cut my hair gave me possibly the best haircut I’ve ever freaking had. They are the only 5 star reviewed one around for a reason. There are cheaper places but you really take a gamble with those. This place is more than reasonable for the sheer quality and competence. Will not be going elsewhere, period.

Fantastic hair cut and beard trim. The older European barbers know how to do things right and with style. This will be my new spot.

Sorrento is one of the last old-fashioned barbershops remaining in Vancouver, and I love going there. I sport a buzz cut, which is easy enough to do, but I’ve seen plenty of guys with medium to long hairstyles getting cuts. They look great once finished. These guys(and woman) know what they’re doing, and you can trust them with your hair. I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a classic cut or shave. The barbers are very talkative and provide an excellent experience. Furthermore, its relatively inexpensive($ 17 for a cut) and you won’t leave disappointed.

Great place for old fashion haircut and shave. First time in my life that I had single razor shave. I got a quality service for a good price.

An awesome place to take a kid for a haircut! We used to take our small fry to the fancy-schmancy kid haircut place on Broadway but, for $ 25, he’d come out looking like someone went at him with hedge clippers. Not worth the trip. We took a chance on this old-school barber shop and wow! super impressed! Jack loved the grownup feel of watching soccer with the old Italian guys(and the lollipop they gave him at the end). The haircut is excellent, the neighbourhood great, the kid is happy. Everybody wins!

Authentic. Classic. And. Cheap. There were three little old men talking in Italian and all the could understand was they someone came after someone else w w 2 by 4 and whacked him in the knees.

My boyfriend gets his hair cut here, so I cannot really comment on the experience, but boy does he look good afterwards. A few of my friends also go to Sorrento’s for good cuts. They are all in their late 20s, early 30s. Sorrento’s kind of retro style really works right now; they deliver classic, yet surprisingly on trend, haircuts at a cheap price, and without even trying. This place is a gem!

Been reading all the great reviews so i thought i tried this place. I had a combover. Lookin to get a fade and some touch up. They ended up cuting my hair like a 10 yr old. Shaved it all and left the bangs. Before we started, i asked if they do skin fades. They gave me a confident yes. And sadly it aint no fade. Honestly the worst haircut of my life.

Sorrento is another great barber shop Unilocal helped me discover. Three Italian men and an Italian women cut people’s hair for a few decades and they figure they can cut yours just fine too. There’s no sense in doubting them until the follicles hit the floor, but you’ll be smiling and short $ 20 long before they’re swept in the trash. Peculiar things they do that other places don’t — shave your neck and ears with a straight razor, tell jokes with their regulars, talk about what’s on the TV, talk to each other in Italian, not rush you out of the chair once they think they’re done, actually listen to suggestions about finishing your cut. I got a «regular long.» It took about 20 minutes and 20 dollars, and it’s not sloppy. It also does not look good sloppy either. But the shape turns out great with a quick combing and I”ve had quite a few compliments. When he told me everyone gets these cuts shorter, I mentioned that my grandpa has told me I’ll be bald soon enough anyway. Right after, an old guy comes in complaining loudly that they stole all his hair! But then, of course, he trusts his son to their scissors and why would he want a bald son?

What all those hipster barber retrosexual places where dudes have handlebar moustaches and sleeve tattoos want to be, this is. Go in a boy, you’ll come out a man. No appointments. Ya wait on a bench, while CNN blares on a set and old Italian men snip away. When a chair is free, bam, ya sit in it. The barber asks ya, «Short? Or Trim?» Short means you want it short. Trim means you just want it trimmed. Life used to be so simple! Then, he spins ya toward CNN and starts snippin. CNN blares a story about a government official. «Thieves!» spits Tony, my barber, snip, snip, «Alla thieves!» Then«uhhyah!» grunts a barber down the line in reply, snip, snip. Tony, waving one hand while the other snips: «Alla thieves, this governt!» Other barber: «Uhhhyah!» Tony tells me how it is while he’s snipping, an opinion on every story. Sad story? He clicks his tongue and shakes his head. Zany story? Short breathed, belly laughter. Complicated story? I can’t really make out most of it… you could say he has a bit of an accent. Does it matter? Not in the slightest. It’s all in his tone, his laugh, the grunts of agreement. They banter, these barbers. It feels good. Then Tony pulls out a straight razor and goes to work on the back of my neck. Yes, a straight razor on the back of my neck. Some shaving cream back there, and he goes to work. An if that’s not the tightest fade the back of my neck has ever seen, this ain’t Hastings Sunrise. He slaps on a bit of aftershave, and spins me around. That scent brings me back. Listen well: a good barber should remind you of your grandfather. 17 bucks, and I’m out. Thank Tony. Uhhhyah!

If I was a man I would totally get my hair cut here. In fact this place almost makes me wish I was a man. It’s more of an experience than a haircut. It’s full of people just hanging out and chatting while the barbers are busy cutting away. They joke and tease and in general just have a good time… It’s sooo much fun. The haircut my friend got was actually pretty good and they even straight razored his neck… old school with hot foam. They do hot towel shaves which came highly recommended by a patron. Sorrento’s is an experience I think everyone should try.
