I’m a fan of Society Salon. Great place on 6th near Cambie Street, just off the hustle and bustle of the Crossroads shopping area. Stephanie cuts my hair and is so helpful when I ask her all of my hair questions. She really seems to enjoy what she does. Definitely a fan!

Society(formerly known as Style Council) may now go by a different name, but it’s still the same friendly neighbourhood salon with the same owner, staff, and products I have grown to love(and a few exciting additions, too!). I have been seeing Jamie for years now, and she still continues to amaze and inspire me. I literally sit down and tell her to do whatever she wants. In fact, you can check out in my profile pictures a picture of me after she chopped off my very long hair into a pixie cut last year! One of the newest and most exciting additions to the salon is R+Co. hair products. This line is almost impossible to find in the city, so it’s a blessing they offer them here! I am a devout believer in the magical properties of R+Co’s «One» prep spray. It smells like green tea and fresh pears. I spray it in my hair in the morning and I often get compliments during the day about how nice my hair smells. You can’t beat that. Good lookin’ and good smellin’ hair at a reasonable cost, you say? Well damn! Hair goals achieved!

Fabulous little minimalist salon tucked away off Cambie on 6th and used to be called the Style Council. I first found it just as a walk-in, and have been going back regularly for over a year. This is the first salon in Vancouver that I trust. The vibe is relaxed, friendly, unpretentious, and professional. I love putting chunks of funky colors like blue, green, and purple in my dark hair and they hook me up. I’ve had problems communicating my vision with stylists in the past, but that never happened here. They«get it.» Dana usually takes care of me but I’ve gotten cuts from Stephanie and Sam and they are all talented, they all listen to you and have honest input into what might look good on you, and care about helping you look your best. When you ask for something, they’re not just going to nod their heads and say yes to make you feel good and then go do whatever seems easy for them. And I love that they are willing to make suggestions, to get you to consider things differently as they have the expertise to know what will work and what will not. The prices are reasonable, too. Highly recommended for your peluquería peace of mind!

I really wanted to like this place. I’ve been looking for a good hairdresser in Vancouver and this place had good reviews. Unfortunately, it was not to be! I wanted a pretty big change in hair style. Knowing I have difficult hair, I contacted Style Council to get a recommendation on which of their stylists would be the best. Had a great chat with the owner(?) and decided to book with the stylist she recommended for my hair type and what I wanted done. My first impression of the place was not great. One of these days, I’m going to follow my gut instincts! I walked in and the layout of the place is just strange. When you walk in the door, you walk right into a stylist working on a customer. And she gave me a dirty look, like I was bothering her! The reception area is at the back of the salon, past all the chairs. I don’t know what kind of look they’re going for, probably some kind of urban cool, but it just looks big, empty, and a little run down. The sinks for hair washing are the awful ones that kill your neck. The most uncomfortable thing for me was how the chairs are set up. There was about 8 – 10 stylist chairs, but only 2 were in use when I was there, me and one other customer. But we were right next to each other! The chairs are so close, I swear my hair clippings were going all over them! On top of that, the other stylist and customer were having a whispered, giggly conversation. You know, the type that makes you paranoid that someone’s talking about you. Add to that the poor communication skills of my stylist and I couldn’t wait to get out of there! The worst part? What my hair now looks like. I was told that this particular stylist would be great for my difficult hair type. Based on the cut I got, I felt like she had very little experience! The consultation was very short, but I did make my needs pretty clear. Showed her a picture of the length I wanted to go and warned her what my hair liked to do as it got shorter. Didn’t matter. My hair ended up way shorter than I wanted. She obviously didn’t take into account what my hair was going to do as it got shorter. It’s a rookie mistake, that I’ve been a victim of in the past, many times. This is why I contacted them to get the most experienced stylist. That was pointless. I went in for a sexy new style and ended up looking like a boy. A boy with really bad hair! On top of that, it’s really uneven and I can’t do anything about that until it grows longer or else it’s going to end up REALLY short. Someone asked me if I went to one of those $ 10 haircut places. You know that’s not a good sign! So, if you want to look like an uncomfortable boy, with a cheap haircut, go to this place. Otherwise, I recommend you stay away!

I have always felt like I have the most awkward hair ever. It’s got this strange natural wave that involves one side of my head having a really intense almost-curl, while the other side will be nice and smooth and straight. Both sides would’ve looked great if they had just freakin’ matched each other. Anyway, now I see Jamie for gettin’ my hairs did. I don’t know what she does to it, but now it just lays nicely on my head after a simple blow-dry. I hardly have to do a thing to it! She is some kind of layering wizard. So if you have weird hair that doesn’t look right, go see Jamie the layer wizard and she’ll fix you up nice.

Very chill space and stylists. Jamie knows her colour and will take the time to really understand what you want and why. Also love sitting by the open door on a sunny day with a nice breeze and good tunes. I always leave feeling relaxed & beautiful!

Having been a hairstylist in the past, I’m possibly the fussiest person when it comes to haircuts… and I have finally found a salon and stylist that have lived up to my fussy bitch needs! The salon atmosphere is super cute and relaxed and everyone is really friendly. Jamie Fox is the best stylist in the world! Seriously the last hairdresser who will ever cut my hair, if she ever retires then I’m just gonna have to shave my head. If you get a chance, come get your hair done, you won’t regret it.

Jamie, Jamie, Jamie Fox! This is what I have to say about this hair stylist extraordinaire — I would pay all the money that I have so that Miss Fox could style my hair every day, twice a day. Her talent and creativity are the things that hair dreams are made of! In all seriousness, Jamie has been doing my hair for years and I have never been happier, every single time I see her! She listens to my ideas and gives me honest feedback based on my personal style and habits(AKA — she knows how to create a damn sexy haircut that suits my lazy ass lifestyle!) To top all of that off Style Council is an adorable salon FILLED with lovely and talented stylists! GOHERE!

Best studio in town. Every stylist is fantastic — but I’m a personal fan of Sam’s! Great prices and amazing service. They have a great product line at a good price point.

When I moved to Vancouver four years ago, I bounced around too many places to get my hair cut, until about 2.5 years ago when I started to go to Sam. I’ve followed Sam around town to her new location at Style Council, but I’m sure she’s not leaving here anytime soon. The whole staff is great, they always seem to enjoy being there. I highly recommend this place — great personality, unpretentious, fair prices, and most importantly awesome looking hair. Not just for girls, great for guys too.
