At this location, we ordered take out on a Saturday afternoon. It only took about 10 – 15 minutes for them to have our food ready, which was great. We ordered an order of the salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, negitoro roll and a half order of the house roll. The rolls were good, as the house rolls are ginormous filled with everything from tuna and salmon sashimi, tamago and tons of fake crab meat. The sashimi pieces here are huge so you are definitely getting your money’s worth. While the salmon sashimi hit the spot, the tuna sashimi however was still frozen, which was a struggle to even eat. The prices here are good for what you get, but after the frozen tuna, I don’t think we will come back to this particular location.

Cheap food but way below average quality and taste. This is not authentic Japanese food. The portion is huge but it looks unappealing and the sushi rolls have way too much rice. The fish is not fresh at all. If you want cheap and big portion food then this is the place to go but if you want quality and fresh Japanese food, this is not the place. Few times I came here to get food for my family, there’s always a long lineup. Personally, I wouldn’t wait in line for below average food if my family didn’t make me go. I rather pay extra money to eat more fresh and quality food

A good option for cheap, bang-for-your-buck and quick sushi. I come here several times a month. I tend to stick to the cooked sushi, rather than the sashimi. It is more quantity than quality, but i still think its pretty good. I would tend to agree with other Unilocalers that the raw tuna has been a bit inconsistent for me in the past. The spicy tuna doesn’t have enough spice, had to buy sriracha. Its often good to pre-order when its during dinner time and know what you want to order before you get in line so you don’t hum and haw at the register! Its a small restaurant and there can be quite a long line.

Not very impressed, I mean you don’t expect much, but at least the tuna should be sushi grade, tuna that looks like this is stringy and inedible.

Sushi is awful. It is the equivalent of McDonalds for burgers. They stuff most sushi rolls with imitation crab meat(eww). And the fish is not fresh. There is no pride in chef’s work: it’s an assembly line. All the staff are Vietnamese who cannot stop chatting loudly. I stopped going to this place after I ate real sushi that can be eaten with 1 bite. But you may still come here if you are poor.

One of my favourite quick sushi places in town. I agree with some of the other Unilocalers that the sushi rolls are not great and I tend to shy away from them. Too much rice and too big. Stick with the sashimi and nigiri sushi. They pack on the fish and better in quality than the rolls. Great for a quick eat and go, but don’t expect to be able to sit and chit chat here.

They have the most delicious unagi don in town. Excellent prices, definitely order sashimi if you love good bargain. They have fresh fish but the sushi are kinda too big for me. I prefer more delicate ones.

Good place to go if you are hungry and don’t carry much cash. The rice is terrible but other than that, most people should be able to swallow their food.

Such generous portions. It can fill up fast, so be prepared to get take-out or wait.

If u wanna eat real good sushi dont go there. If u wanna fill ur stomach up with huge amount of rice which is contained too much vinegar, u should go. Cant they cut fish thinner n smaller? Just lazy?

Huge sized portions of sushi! A great place for bang for your buck. Decent sushi. Good California rolls and Futomaki. Party tray C had a good combination of sushi and fed six of us. Waitress was good, told us to come 15min later than a requested so we could get 5% off pick up order(2 hours advance order get 5% off; 1 day advance notice get 10% off). Great place for take out, not too much seating.

You know what Samurai means: cheap and huge portions. One piece of sashimi equals to two or three pieces of sashimi at regular sushi places. Quality is ok, at least I’ve never had diarrhea or food poisoning from here. It is a come eat and go or take-out joint in the neighborhood. Call in advance: 2 hours ahead or one day ahead to receive 5−10% off your order. This Samurai is run by the Vietnamese, great party tray for parties starting at 22 $. Accepts credit card. Street parking available.

Came here recently with that weird craving for a california roll the size of my arm and noticed that they seem to premake the rolls and keep them on standby on the counter. I can see how this may be good in an efficiency sense but not sure how this translates to food safety standards. I just prayed none of those forlorn rolls got into my order(who am I kidding, one of them probably did) and ate hastily with a hint of suspense. Spoiler alert: I didn’t die of food poisoning. If you want your sushi large and cheap, come here. If you’re looking for something more refined(and with more concrete food storage solutions) travel further up Cambie.

Recommended by a local, we were promised quality cuts and big portions. Boy did it deliver! Everything tasted fresh and the portion was very generous. Will definitely be returning whenever I need my sushi fix up in Vancouver! We ordered take out for salmon, toro, mackeral and gyoza(possibly one or two other things I’m forgetting).

I’m completely baffled. I thought Vancouver residents had higher standards than this, or does saving a couple of dollars justify the massive hit on quality of your meal? Once in a while at parties and gatherings I’m subjected to a party tray of this rubbish and it’s always the same — tons of rice that people throw away, seafood under various stages of rot and awful cuts of fish that are as tough as rubber. How people in a city of ample amounts of sushi options stomach this is beyond me. This place isn’t quite bargain bin either — You’re paying the same for a platter, you just get a few more pieces where 80% of the volume is in day old left-out-on-the-counter rice. I think anyone that really likes this place just gets suckered by the marketing and gets caught up by the rush to OMGSUPERSIZEMYSUSHIRICE! I realize some treat this place with some reverence, having relied on it with their college shoestring budgets in years past — but please for everyone’s sake, it’s time to grow out of it. If you’re still bringing this sort of food to a potluck, do everyone a favor and get a salad or a bag of chips from Safeway across the street instead.

Kudos if they had the option of brown rice. The calorie count of all that extra white polished rice on their rolls and nigiri sushi, coupled with its other adverse health challenges… meh!, I’ll pass on this respectable bar. Other healthier choices and options…

Food: 2 stars Price: 4 stars Ambiance: 2 stars Service: 2 stars Overall: 2.5 stars Food: I used to want to come here a lot after my husband(well, bf at that time) introduced me to this place. Let’s say I was young and stupid and only cared about the portion. Their portion is large, but the fish is just mediocre. For anyone who doesn’t care about the taste but the portion, this is definitely the place to go. Price: I think their price is fine consider their portion is huge. The fish were gigantic compare to other places. However, I’ve heard the fish size shrank. I don’t know if that’s true or not since I care about the taste more than portion now since I’m now old and not so stupid. Ambiance: It’s a small store, and you really don’t have much space to sit there. They constantly get phone calls for pick-up orders or whatever since apparently a lot of people prefer huge portion over taste. Service: There’s really no service. You have to get your own tea if you want to dine at the restaurant, and throw the trays away after you are done. I don’t think the cashier ever smiled at me even. not that I care since I’m not interested in old woman. Wait, I should say I’m not interested in women, period. Overall: Again, as I said. If you really don’t care about the taste of fish, come here. You can be pretty happy. If you do want better fish that melt in your mouth as you eat it, I suggest you going somewhere else, like for example, Sushi Mura. Well, happy cheap and tasteless fish at Samurai sushi.

In my opinion, the best sushi restaurant in the lower mainland. I’ve been coming here for years and I have not had a bad experience. Amazing prices, HUGE quantities, GREAT quality(especially the house roll and salmon sashimi, as well as the teriyaki bowls and other rolls) I come here all the time, and I wish I lived closer to it. For sure my sushi restaurant of choice. Only downside is that it’s cash only… even after years of coming here I seem to forget that one detail. There is a cash machine 1 block up, but who really wants to go all the way to a bank machine to take out $ 20 for sushi?

As the 3 stars suggest: this place is A OK. People mainly come here for their huge portions. Other than that it’s nothing to write home about. This place should never be confused with authentic Japanese fare, because the two are polar opposites. It’s okay for what it is. Stick with their rolls, stay clear of their sashimi. Frankly, their sashimi is mushy, gross, and unappealing. If you’re super hungry, their house roll is ginormous! Half of order should suffice! I got the combo maki B and I ate it for lunch & dinner since I couldn’t finish it LOL. Not bad for $ 10.95!

Land of the massive rolls. Decided to stop in here for a quick lunch. Lots of take out order, they do have a small counter and a few small tables if you want to eat in. The place is busy so the turn over of fresh food is good, but the taste is mostly plain rice and Japanese mayo with whatever ingredient you want in your rolls. I don’t think they cure the sushi rice like other Japanese restaurants as this location is run by Vietnamese staff.
