I walked in to see lots of variety. The France appeal to the place is something neat. The waitress was helpful and friendly. I ordered a crème Brule to go. She pulled one out for me and tourched the sugar on top of the crème Brule. It was very neat to see her do that. It added a lot to the experience. It also tasted great.

I’m honestly quite surprised at all the really high reviews. I’ve been here only twice and I live and work within a couple blocks. Once a few years ago for a sandwich over lunch break — don’t remember it being bad or good. Recently with my little one to check out the play space and have a snack with a mom friend. There were two people in front of me in line and I waited almost 10 min to order. Don’t come here if you are in a hurry. I had a bowl of soup with some fresh bread which was a good sized portion and tasted great. We were very disappointed with the play space — it was full of old broken toys and was filthy. The carpet hadn’t been cleaned or replaced for some time. My LO had brown muddy knees and hands from crawling around in there. Gross. I get it that it’s a courtesy that they offer a small play space at all — not the focus of the café — but keep it clean and maintained or don’t bother! I will not be back.

The BEST Ham and Cheese Croissants I’ve ever had! I’ve only had these so can’t comment on the other food but the service is always friendly and unpretentious. Lovely little spot.

Delicious and dangerous that I live so close to here! Favorites are the almond croissant, many varieties of shortbread cookies, and ham/Brie sandwich. My daughter also loves that they have a little kids area with toys.

OMG. This place is sugar heaven… literally. I love how everything is displayed here. They have a good mixture of sweet and savory treats, full sandwiches and of course some coffee. The space is clean, limited but ample seating and the customer service was awesome. Prices were fair market as you would expect. My only minor complaint is that I wish that it was air conditioned. Lately it has been brutally hot. Most items are baked in house which is a huge plus for me. Of course I love my Macarons. Lemon all the way!

First things first. The food, baked good and coffee are Woohoo! As good as it gets! However, the owner if overbearing, loud and rude. He once served the customer behind me because she had a child. He flirts inappropriately. And. The worst is that he does not care about his customers. Today I observed that a caring customer was informing the owner that the cups slide from the saucers and he would hate it if a customer should get spilled on or worse yet, burned. The owner simply shrugged, said the dishes were made in China and if a customer should get hot coffee spilled on them and sued him, he would in turn sue the dish company. So self-centered and unwilling to accept constructive criticism. An attitude adjustment by the owner would get this place a 5 star rating.

I’ll start with the downsides just to get them out of the way. In need of a midday pickup in the form of a cookie besides shortbread because, like me, you don’t understand why anyone would eat those dusty lardy barely-any-taste breeds of cookies? Go elsewhere. Do not buy the chocolate version or a cinnamon one or any other flavours I tried hoping that it’ll stop being shortbread. It’s shortbread, Rachel, you need to accept that. In a rush? Tread carefully. This will rarely be your lunch hour stop. This is a very laid back, very neighbourhood French bakery and you will often spend your time waiting behind what you think is a line and turns out to be just regulars chatting with the baker. Peak in and it’s empty? Got time to spare? Really want delicious things? Then oh my goodness you need to pop in. I don’t even LIKE sausage rolls. I LOVE theirs, upon following my nose to a coworker’s lunch. Feel like weeping silently into your meal? Try the croissant. Better yet, try the almond one or the ham one. That ham one. Oh man. Yes. Buttery to a higher level, this bakery knows what it is doing. Sandwiches, soups. All on point. I also really love their coffee and drinks — I’d go as far to say they beat the pants off their neighbour Tree’s across the street. Not only are they nearly half the price, their chai is more flavourful without needless sugar and the same goes for their London Fog. Staff is another major highlight. There is a reason people get caught up talking. Everyone there is bright, personable and genuinely interested in your day. You’ll walk in to a lot of laughter and the atmosphere really reflects it. Everyone, including them, is happy to be there. So, if I were to ignore the fact I only visit on a half hour break at work and don’t have time to spare, this bakery is a hell of a gem.

I dream about your Chocolate Cake and your Gateaux de Roy! In my dreams, I live within walking distance of Plaisir Sucre and visit Fabrice everyday.

Amazing! Everything here is delicious. The mosquetaire sandwich is more than worth the $ 8.99. But best of all is the chocolate torte. It is by far the best you will have ever tasted. Fabrice, the owner is tonnes of fun.

Plaisir Sucre is a cute little French Bakery. I visited Plaiser Sucre with my boyfriend this morning for breakfast. They serve sandwiches, soups, teas, and many little pastries. The owner was VERY friendly. He made us feel welcomed and gave us a few giggles. We ordered one shrimp sandwich and one turkey sandwich with a thai soup and london fog tea. The london fog was made amazingly, not too sweet, served in a little mug :). The sandwiches took us off guard because they were HUGE. Each sandwich was served on a separate baguette! The shrimp sandwich had 7 giant shrimps, tomatoes, fresh greens and a nice salad dressing-like sauce to compliment the shrimp. The turkey sandwich was overflowing with delicious ingredients: turkey deli meat, cheese, tomatoes, avocados, cucumber, olives(forgive me if i’m forgetting anything else ;p lol). The thai soup tasted surprisingly very authentic, so full of flavour. The soup was also full of yummy ingredients, including giant shrimp(soo good). Overall, this is an amazing place to come by for breakfast or lunch. I recommend ordering 1 sandwich shared between two people; Six hours have passed since my visit and I am still full from all the bread from the sandwiches :) It’s a nice full feeling, full of love, or course ;p

Oh Fabrice! I can rave about this bakery enough!!! Everything is absolutely amazing from his shortbread cookies, to his pain au chocolat. EVERYTHING!!! Sandwiches are amazing and made fresh to order not sitting behind the glass pre made. I also eat something in there and then get a bunch more to go. His prices are extremely reasonable. Actually dirt cheap considering the high quality ingredients he uses, he doesn’t chintz out on anything. Oh and for all you complainers about the owner. Grow a sense of humor, he’s a fabulous guy, funny as heck and has positive energy, please don’t ruin his flow. I love you Fabrice! Keep on baking!

Friendly owner, and the various sandwiches are all worth trying. The bread and ingredients are all fresh, and the sandwiches are often big enough for two meals

A true French experience! As soon as you walk in most likely you will be greeted by Fabrice. He will make you feel right at home and will not hesitate to poke fun at you. Half the reason I come here is because he is so entertaining. Don’t take anything he says too seriously as he is just being playful. Ok now the food part… the almond croissants are the best! You will not be disappointed. All the deserts are great but his real specialty is his bread. The sandwiches are big and while they don’t have much meat on them, the bread makes up for it. The soups are delicious as well, esp on a cold rainy day. The chicken chipotle, coconut chicken curry, and chicken thai are my favorites. And before you leave, if you are not the type to get offended easily I recommend you ask to see his apron(make sure there are no kids around). haha.

You have to come here just for the experience ! The owner is a super friendly french guy who really gives u the french experience at this café ! The sandwiches are amazing, the desserts are better and the croissants are to die for ! He bakes his own bread and also supplies it to the restaurants/cafes in the area. And the bread is no-doubt delicious ! There’s a wide variety of pre-made cold and hot sandwiches including vegetarian and seafood options. The prices are really good for this area($ 6-$ 8). The amount of food u get is good for 2 meals ! The menu, although limited, does have an option for everyone. This isn’t much of a sit down place although there are some tables for seating.

4.5 stars, not 4. This place is just about perfect for me except the lunch menu isn’t that big, so selection is limited. The pastries however are to die for! There is a much larger variety of goodies to choose from, all of which are fantastic. I must also add that their breads are one of the best I’ve ever had. I typically order a sandwich from here and for me the best part of it is the bread. My mom liked it so much that she bought a loaf of the bread used in our lunch. Another great thing about Plaisir Sucre is that it is much more affordable than other French cafes such as Crêpe and Café(although I do love them) and Kerrisdale’s Faubourg. Their lemon tarts are ½ the price of Crêpe and Café’s!!! I must say, when you feel like you come in here, you feel like you are in France… not that I’ve ever been, but I have studied the language and culture before. In addition to that they have French music playing, TV5 is airing on the TV, and the workers are loudly talking in French. Somehow those aspects just add to the authenticity. Perhaps the best thing about this place is Fabrice, the mastermind behind this little gem. He takes his business very seriously in every aspect possible including quality of the food and pastries as well as interacting with his customers. He makes sure that everyone that comes in has a pleasant experience. Here at this café there is something for everyone(cookies for the little ones!). Fabrice is a friendly guy to talk to with a great sense of humour.

* Off day? * I’m guessing based upon the stream of 5 star reviews that I either went to the wrong place or hit them at the wrong time of the day? I ordered the pain au chocolat, which was overly doughy inside, not flaky at all, and slightly stale. Meh. Photo: The café au lait was pumped from a coffee holding tank and the coffee simply didn’t taste fresh. He fresh steamed some milk to add to it, but it didn’t cover the oldness of the coffee. Photo: I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and may return sometime to try again, but can someone let me know what time is best to go to avoid the old stuff? I’m guessing early morning?

Mmm… pain au chocolat! Big fluffy buttery with 2 streams of dark chocolate running through it all! The crust isn’t quite crunchy enough to make a big mess, but the pillowy softness of the inside makes up for it. Nice, relaxing French café — grab a café au lait and sit at the window bar stools, watching Kits locals stroll by and in for their sugar fix. Oh, they’ve also got about a half dozen selection of macaron flavours, $ 1.25 each. Got one of each and liked the chocolate and pistachio best. The raspberry one comes with a jam filling — too sweet for me. Many other tempting pastries in their showcase, will be back for more!
