The chili crab was absolutely fantastic! Sweet and slightly spicy. Fell in love with this place at first sight. Will recommend to all visitors as its relatively close to the airport.

I had the chicken curry laksa and it was just so-so. Service isn’t great either so there isn’t much to really make me want to go back to this place.

Penang is very close to my house, as a result I come here often enough.(My uncle is well known to the staff here because of the frequency of our visits haha). The food is very tasty, definitely recommend the chicken satays — have never had a bad chicken satay at Penangs. The curries are also delicious. We often order too much as everything looks so delicious. Never fear though, we take it away to eat the next day and it’s still delicious! The décor is nice, the establishment clean. It is located in a little mall and as such the parking in the mall is limited. However if you’re willing to walk a little bit there’s plenty of street parking around. If you anticipate eating a lot, perhaps street parking a little further away is preferable for that post dinner digestion! The service is great for a place this busy. In fact, my uncle was ultra impressed since they observed our napkins were getting a bit too soiled and took the initiative to bring us a fresh stack! Word of caution: the restaurant is plenty busy so if you want to guarantee you get fed make sure to make a reservation! If you drop in at a busy time you may not be able to eat at a decent time. We always make reservations and often have to wait a little bit. But it’s worth the wait.

We really like Malaysian food and after the first time we came here, we were hooked! Have been back many times and we would order a table full of food just for 2 people. Their rendang and hainanese chicken were good, along with many different dishes. Their prices were not cheap, although not fine dining restaurant expensive, but when comparing to other Asian restaurants, they are definitely on the expensive side, but still because we liked their food and we thought the quality worth the price, so we kept on going back many times. Until one day, when the Asian gentleman waiter was really rude to us with quite an attitude, we have decided to put a stop to it. He was suggesting us to order a crab, so when I inquire about the price, he told me it’s $ 50 per crab, thinking this was REALLY expensive, we politely declined and said we would order a hainanese chicken dish instead, then we heard him muttered scornfully, «fine, if you want to eat cheap dishes then go have your chicken.» WTF!!! We have dropped over a thousand dollars in that restaurant over months of eating there, and this is the kind of service we got because we decided not to order the crab?! Needless to say, even though I really liked the food, but we have restricted ourselves of never going back there again.

Been here twice, meh. Don’t like it, don’t hate it either. Clearly chinese-malaysian fusion, i can taste the ingredients used in chinese dishes. Flavours didn’t click. Worst char kway teow, salty, greasy and over spiced. Nope. Chicken rendang was quite mediocre and a bit watered down. Hokkian mee was oily, tasted ok. My friend’s salted fish rice dish was alright, he said the fish is usually cooked together with the sauce, but they don’t do it like that here. Prices are a bit up there for the quality and portions. Meh.

I don’t have too much to add here. Décor was clean and seemed to have exotic elements of Malaysia around. The staff seem like Malaysian Chinese(Cantonese speaking). The clientele seemed to have a lot of Cantonese as well. We ordered a curry combo(beef rendang, lamb rendang, and curry chicken) and garlic veggie stems in garlic shrimp sauce served in a hotpot. Beef rendang met my expectations, which were pretty high. I enjoyed it much more than the lamb and chicken, which seemed of generic quality. The veggies(designated V01 on the menu) were spectacular and I couldn’t stop eating them — stir fried in shrimp sauce, garlic, and onions, this was very fragrant. Total bill was $ 37 before tax which included 2 bowls of rice. A good first impression for the first of many visits.

RUDE, RUDE, RUDESERVICE! Wow! I had the absolute WORSTSERVER. I came in before the lunch rush with my baby in a stroller. I asked to sit in v back table to be out of the way. Then I heard the server say in Chinese, «Why is she sitting there! She’s in the way!» He asked if I could move; I said sure. He was rude frm his first words. He was not happy that I was in their restau w my baby– he was v grouchy moving the chairs and banged my cups and plates when he moved them over. Nobody said boo to me the entire meal. I grabbed chopsticks for myself from table beside me. I walked up to cashier to get my bill. I was there for 15 mins max. On my way out, I couldn’t turn into exit hall w my stroller bc there was a small umbrella stroller blocking. This same server was standing beside it. I asked if he could help move it so we could pass by. He exclaimed, «IT’S NOTMINE!» Huh? OMG! This server could not momentarily lift a 2lbs umbrella stroller to help us by. I had to retort, «Could you JUSTHELP?!?» He finally relented and helped. He then smiled to no one & walked away. I’m glad there were ppl who saw this in the waiting area. It was so unbelievable how rude and discourteous he was. Sad thing is the food was good. It always is. My husband and I come here all the time w family & friends. It’s a shame that the food today came w jaw-dropping, bad service. *Bc the manager of this location was on vacation, I spoke to management of sister location who was v apologetic and offered smth complimentary. I said no thanks.

Food was really good service was meh! I was in the area and was craving laksa and roti. They opened at 11am for lunch, and I came in just when they just opened, the server was surprised to see me, I somewhat felt unwelcome like he wasn’t ready to work, and I ruined his break. The restaurant has great décor, dark wood, some touches of Malaysia but not over done. The menu has lots of options but I know what I came for. I ordered curry chicken laksa and roti canai. It was a lot of food for one person, portions are good. The laksa was very tasty my only complain was the chicken I wish I would have chosen the beef or no meat. The chicken was the thighs with bones, I didn’t even eat it, will know for next time. But enjoyed the two different types of noddles in the laksa and broth coconut curry so flavorful. Roti is my favourite I love them and the dripping sauce so good!!! I spent a good 30 – 40 minutes in this restaurant, not once did the server come and check on me besides taking my order, dropping off my food, and taking my payment. It would have been fine except I didn’t have any more tea and I really wanted water the food had some kick to it, my mouth was burning. The whole time I was there two other tables came in, still not so busy so no excuse for the bad service. I had to wave him down to get his attention. But I would still come back I really enjoyed the food. I really want to try other menu items.

I never write negative reviews, but I want you to be aware of scams. My wife and I dined with two friends here last night. Food was average, not bad. Tasted more like Westernised Asian food than Malaysian, but being from Indonesia I am picky with food from the region. However, watch out — our waiter was dodgy. We asked the waiter if it was possible to split the bill, so we pay half each. The waiter said it was fine, then proceeded to charge me much more than half. When I caught this, the waiter casually said«yes, I will charge the rest to your friend», as if he had practised what to say many times before. Only after I found he also charged my friend more than the reminder of the bill. So in total we both paid more than what we should have. Hate to put down a restaurant but this experience was shocking.

based on a friend recomendation i went to try on this malaysian restaurant… for my lunch i tried the roti canai acrispy indian style pancake with curry dipping sauce, penang bbq with wanton soup, coconut rice and a grass jelly for my drink… restaurant decors are so nice its like small eatery in malaysia, service is average, noise level is moderate. they only accept debit/cash only. this small approximately 30 seaters only, street parking, food taste based on its own merit is 4 – 5 star. a neat place to bring your friends for a malaysian food treat…

I grew up in Malaysia/Singapore so my tastes regarding food from this region are a bit more picky than some. This my family’s go-to place for authentic Malaysian. Favourites are the mango chicken and the wonton mee with pork. Also very good is the basil chicken and roti canai. The hainanese chicken rice is just OK, I prefer John 3:16 in Richmond. The curry here is better than the Rupert location, but the Rupert location has better char kuay teow. Parking is a bit of an issue because there are only a few spots in the strip mall that this restaurant is part of. You usually have to circle around in the neighbouring streets to find parking. However, it is free so that’s that. I dropped a star because while the quality of the food is great, they recently raised their prices by quite a bit. This resulted in reducing their business, as before they were absolutely packed, but now it can be easy to find a table as a walk-in. We don’t go as much as we used to because of the higher prices.

Best Assam Laksa in town! Penang is my hometown and I must say this dish is my absolute favourite dish in the restaurant. This type of laksa is local to Penang, Malaysia and no other province in Malaysia serves laksa this style. I could not find a restaurant that serves Assam Laksa in Vancouver until I found this one! Score! I’m a big fan. If you like sardines and salty and sour(due to lime) broth, this dish is for you. The combination of flavours is phenomenal. Sweet flavour from pineapples. Crunch from sliced fresh cucumber. Sour from lime. Generous potion of sardines. Hint of mint from the garnish. I keep going back for this dish. I’ve also tried their Hokkien noodle soup. This is worst dish I’ve tried here. It is super sweet and has no prawn taste in the soup at all. The broth is supposed to be cooked from prawns(or authentically, lots of prawn heads!) but I highly doubt the broth has met any prawns ever! Tasted processed. Not recommended. I’ve also tried the Ipoh Hor Fun soup. Tasted a little bland for my taste. Chicken is not de-boned. Served with skin. A few pieces of fish cakes. Some bean sprouts. Broth was mediocre. Would not order again. Restaurant is clean, classy, unpretentious. Love the pictures on the walls. Reminds me of home. Gives me the warm and fuzzies. Service is attentive and efficient. Hot pot of tea served as soon as we sat down. Server polite. Easy parking. I’m keen to try other dishes the next time I’m there!

Consistently the best Laksa place in town — it got spicier and that is great. I tried their other dishes as well like the sambal kang kong, spicy flat noodle, and curry meat. But their laksa is my favorite. It is great that they sell beers now; their previous location on Rupert did noy serve alcohol. It gets busy but not too long of line up and that is fine with mr. Parking can be tough but there are plenty of street parking.

We came here for dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant was actually quite full, but we didn’t have to wait to get seated. We were immediately served piping hot tea. Ordered roti kanai(appetizer), Rendang Beef and a Milo drink. Service was pretty quick and we served everything at the same time. Roti kanai and the rendang beef were pretty good. The meat was tender, generous and delicious. I didn’t quite like the Milo drink. Service is good, food is good, i thought it was pricey. But we certainly walked out of the restaurant with a full stomach and satisfied meal.

A friend took me to Penang Delight Café one Wednesday afternoon. It’s in a remote location. Off the beaten path that’s for sure. It is situated on the East side of Granville Street on 73rd Ave in a tiny strip mall. This Malaysian restaurant is pretty big good for larger parties. Also there seems to be plenty of free mall and neighborhood parking. The restaurant itself is adorn with many Malaysian artifacts and the tables or benches are hard wood. The look is rustic. Hmmm… I thought hard about rating this restaurant. I was trying to decided whether 3 or 4 stars is appropriate. I guess in truth it should be 3.5 stars. Roti: it was ok. My only complaint is that it was a bit doughy. Not flaky and crispy the way I like it. Shrimp Roll: average. Why do they call them shrimp rolls? They’re pork mixed with shrimp deep fried. Laksa: I enjoyed this dish. Nice presentation and a nice spicy kick. Green grass jelly soya mild… It was ok. It is as advertised. Service was very attentive and friendly. Ok maybe I’m sexist but I would prefer to be served by women! As far as I could see all the servers were men. Overall Penang Delight is worth another try.

… you guys, there’s LOTS of stuff in Marpole! Including, but not limited to, some pretty fantastic Malaysian food. Who knew? I had the delight of having lunch here with the lovely Kat S. Born out of our mutual love for Hawkers and my stubborness that no other Mayaysian food would win over my heart quite the same as that hole in the wall, we planned an «investigative» foodie date. And I must say, I VERY specifically tip my hat. To the service? Though they were both quick and attentive, it was not this point that won my heart. To the room? Lovely. Surprisingly lovely, for what looks like a little strip mall from the outside. It’s large and roomy and cclleeeaaannn. Holy heck, clean. But not the pinnacle factor. The food? Decently priced. Well seasoned. Well portioned. Just enough spice. Tasty and though i’d still say Hawkers has them beat for taste/price, I would definitely recommend this haunt to people in the area for lunch/dinner and would happily return. But though close… this isn’t the source of my hat tip… No no, this place won my heart and tipped my hat because it currently hold the title for: The best cold leftovers of 2013. This food is unnervingly delicious the next day. Kat let me haul our left overs back to my place and the next day, around lunch time and in my usually state of mid-day disarray, I didn’t bother heating them up and just dug in. Holy hecknoise. I have NO idea why… but the leftovers were SO good, i’ve actually considered driving back, buying take out and leaving it to sit for the evening… A weird way into ones heart but a way nonetheless. I tip my hat to perplexing deliciousness. And a lovely spot for lunch.

Absolutely a hidden gem in Marpole! I never thought there is a restaurant on 73rd Ave & Hudson Street! I got a friend who born at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, she told me Penang Delight dishes are very authentic. They are always busy and reservation is needed to avoid line up. It hides in quiet corner mall, good to see the big tent and won’t miss it. The decoration was quite nice and we saw 2 abacuses on the wall, hmm… I don’t think many people how to use it nowadays. Also, some Malaysian style photos too. It’s so clean, comfortable and spacious Asian restaurant. There are many pictures of the dishes displayed on the menu, it’s so lure even looking at it. The foods are really good and price is comparable for the quality of food and service. Roti Canai — Pan fried crispy Indian style pancakes(2 pcs) served with curry dipping sauce. Hmm. pretty standard but curry dipping sauce was a bit light and watery. Penang Satay — Marinated chicken/beef skewers with peanut dipping sauce and minimum order 4 skewers. We ordered chicken and beef and both skewers were juicy and tasty. Nasi Nanas — Fried rice with shrimps, pineapple, onion, egg, green bean and lettuce. It’s good size of fried rice. Shrimp balls — I never seen any shrimp balls in Malaysia menu, I thought this is Chiu Chow appetizer dish. Anyway, it’s ok. Deluxe Curry Platter — Curry chicken, beef and lamb served in one dish. We could try all kind of meats in right portion, this is fabulous! Curry Laksa — Chicken, fish ball, half egg and mix vegetable with yellow noodle and rice vermicelli, bean sprouts, fried tofu in coconut curry broth. So delicious! Overall, foods are excellent coz not too salty and MSG! The price is comparable for the quality of food and service. I would say they’re doing much better than Tropika and Banana Leaf
