So good. We don’t even live in this neighbourhood but will go out of our way to get take out from here vs. anywhere else.

So the deal is this. Poor service, small portions and bland food. End of review! Not worth the 26 $ for lunch for 2 people. Had to leave an obligatory tip just because. I feel I am fully knowledgable In Asian food. This place is mediocre at best. If you need to go try one dish at a time a see how it goes. Do not order 3 – 4 dishes. But again this is my opinion.

We are regulars here, either the 4th location or broadway spot. We tend to order the same dishes because for one they are just good. Our favs are: –Sweet Corn & Chicken –Xiao-Long Bao Steamed Buns –Stewed Marbled Pork & Flatbread –Peaceful Beef Rolls –Bean Sauce Eggplant –Honey Garlic Spareribs –Sichuan Beef Soup Noodles We don’t usually wait long for a seat but we also know when to go. There is a longer line at the Broadway location at both lunch and dinner. Ever since it was on that tv show it has been busier.

Food tasted good but service was appalling. I ordered sweat and sour chicken as they didn’t do sweat and sour pork(strange for a Chinese restaurant) and asked for fried rice to go with it. I was told I couldn’t have fried rice(strange again for a Chinese restaurant) with it and that it came with steamed rice. The sweat and sour chicken arrived, but with no rice. I asked where the rice was and the server said it would have to be a separate order. I explained that when we ordered we were told it came with steamed rice. The server came back with a small bowl of rice and said we wouldn’t need to pay for it, it was their mistake. We went up to pay and we had been charged for the rice. The women at the till then proceeded to argue with us about how we had to pay for the rice. We refused to pay for the rice, and explained how terrible their service was. A shame, because the food actually tasted pretty good!

If you go to the Peaceful restaurant for no other reason than the Beef Roll, it will have been worth it. I guarantee it. The spareribs were also delicious! The fried pork bun was 99% dough and 1% pork — leave that one be. This location was MUCH less busy than the Broadway location and MUCH bigger, too.

Loved every dish. Just come! We ordered several dishes. There are no words to describe how good this location is. I would say the only downside was the bathroom. I’ve just had ankle surgery. So no to handicapped bathroom. Not even handles on the stall to help you. We will be back again.

Can you say«Overrated»!!! Wow. What a disappointment. After seeing the long lineups at the Broadway(near Cambie) location, my friends and I were pretty excited to check out the new-ish location in our hood. With the signs outside their restaurant boasting that they were on Guy Fieri’s «Diners, Drive-ins and Dives» show(Food Network), you’d think this would give this place some credibility. Forget about it. When we walked in, they seated us in a corner booth(by the kitchen and bathrooms) where the seat was held together with duct tape. This after they’d recently undergone a «renovation». Yeah right. Our booth was directly under a vent that was blowing extremely cold air on us and when we told our server about it, she said, «yeah, it’s very cold there». Thanks for that. After asking to move, the waitress looked confused, so we basically changed tables and sat ourselves. About 10 minutes later, we saw another group sit down and go through the same issue. The food is barely mediocre and the service is GARBAGE. The only reason you MIGHT have to go here is for the beef rolls. They’re pretty good. But let me save you the time. Find your beef rolls elsewhere. The service and the food are lame and not worth your hard earned cash.

Food is very oily and lacks flavor. Very disappointed considering all of the high reviews. Also, don’t order pickup. Told us our meal would be ready for pickup in an hour, came in to pick it up an hour later, told it would a few mins wait and to have a seat in the waiting area. 20mins later I checked with them again if it our order was almost ready, they checked with the kitchen and said they would start cooking my order now, an hour and a half later. Sitting in the waiting area I saw people come in to eat, get their meal, and leave before my order was up. An hour wait at home, and an hour wait in the resteraunt for a takeout order, I then had my food. This was the second time this happened. The first time I figured it was a horrible misshap. Nope, business as usual at this place.

I love peaceful on Broadway and this one isn’t too much different other than it’s nowhere near as busy. It’s situated at the end of the shopping district area of West 4th with lots of free side-street parking around the area and on nicer days it’s just a great place to grab lunch while walking around the area or having a beach day. The staff came off as friendly and the food was very quick. Per usual the Dan Dan noodles and beef rolls are what we enjoy at peaceful and they were almost exactly the same as the Broadway location other than the beef rolls had a slightly different taste but other than that both were enjoyable. It was a simple, fast and delicious lunch that rounded out our West 4th gallivant nicely. Cash and debit are the only forms of payment they take.

Oh Peaceful. First you disappoint me, then you revolt me… I popped in for a Sunday Lunch of my favourite Sichuan Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. I LOVE this soup normally but this time the beef was tough and the broth super sour. So sour that I returned it and they graciously offered me a different soup on the menu. I chose another soup, they brought me chili so I could make it spicy. 15 bites in a short curly black hair turned up on my spoon. My hair is long and auburn. I was done. I paid my bill and tried to discreetly tell the girl at the cash register that there was a hair in my soup, but she didn’t seem too concerned — pretty sure they just thought I was crazy complaining lady. So it will be a while before I can bring myself to eat here again, which is unfortunate because I usually really enjoy my meals here.

The quality had definitely gone down. General tao’s chicken was mostly bread. Kept the same sauce. The quantity went down as well. Used to be our favorite, but not any more

My type of restaurant: ethnic cuisine, wonderful food, inexpensive prices and no frills ambience. This place is always busy but the wait is not too long. Come at 6:00 rather than 8:00 to avoid a wait. Try any noodle dish. They’re all good. The menu shows recommendations if you’re indecisive. VEGETARIAN options are plentiful.

Definitely the most over rated restaurant I’ve been too in a long time. Ok, yes the beef roll is good, just grab one to go and call it a day. If you have to stay and eat the wonton soup was ok, of you like pure salt. We also tried the lamb on noodles with veg and cumin which was marginal. Grab a beef roll and roll!

Can I give half a star? Was so disappointed. I usually go to the Broadway location but decided to try the west 4th location. Food was bland and some were so oily(as if I was just eating oil… lol.) the steamed pork dumpling was reheated… Wasn’t fresh at all. The beef roll was hard, bland and oily. Never will I come back. Broadway location all the way.

Really have no idea what all the fuss is about. Heard the rave reviews and finally gave it a shot. As a vegetarian, I found the menu fairly limited and repetitive as to my options. I ordered take-out, and only upon arriving home did I realize the spicy beans were in fact a meat dish. I also ordered a noodle dish and was asked if I would like thin or thick noodles, I chose the thin. Now if those were«thin» noodles, I would hate to see the thick variety… Other than the over-the-top prices, I really couldn’t tell the difference to any other food court Chinese joint. The girl at the front desk/cash register was extremely friendly, but that’s certainly not enough to get me to come back again.

The food is always good: beef roll, XLB, Shanghai style noodles, dandan noodles, spicy deep fried squid, rice cakes, eggplant – all of it is always good. The service is also always consistent. It’s consistently bad. It ranges from indifferent and bad to downright awful. Go expecting horrific service and you may be surprised. I keep going back because the food is solid. Take out is also a good option.

There isn’t anything peaceful about a restaurant that serves up food made with what seems like the equivalent of pepper spray. Had a hard time figuring out which region the food’s from. There are a lot of northern dishes, and even ones I don’t normally see in Chinese restaurants(ie. Lamb with cumin) — but Xiao Long Bao… isn’t that Shanghainese? And sure, it’s more NORTH of Guangzhou, but I wouldn’t deem it «northern food». We ordered the sheared Dan Dan Noodles, Lamb with Cumin, Beef Rolls. Went with the sheared noodles — noodles made by hand and cut to look as if your 3-year old got herself a pair of toy scissors and cut up all your clothes with the raggedy edges — as they are something I rarely see. But disappointed by the texture — doughy and not as «Q» — tight and el dente as I’m used to. The peanut sauce was spicy and overall the dish was quite yummy. But not everyone in our group could stand the spiciness. Lamb with Cumin — this was something I’d wanted my friends to try, as Chinese food is rarely made with spices like cumin, unless it’s from the Xinjiang province where it’s cold, there’s a lot of lamb and yogurty things. Again the dish was very good, but not as flavorful as I’ve had previously, though the meat of the lamb was tender. That was spicy, too. The beef rolls were the best. Tender beef rolled with a hoisin type sauce and surprisingly deep fried. Some pretty good food, but I can’t vouch for its authenticity. But as far as good food goes, Peaceful is not bad. In case this review isn’t lending the restaurant any legitimacy, that Food Network guy also ate here — not the portly one who eats bugs, the other one with spiky blonde hair. His plaque is posted right at the entrance. But behind the scary cardboard cutout of the Chinese chef lady touting her wares out on the street.

I really loved Peaceful, but I stopped going when the kids moved in because the original location is just too cramped and hectic to go with kids. This location is much less packed. The tables have a respectable amount of space in between them and they have high chairs. It’s less chaotic and busy here, so the staff are able to be more personable. I’m sure the staff at the original location are decent people, but you’d never know it because they are always so rushed. There’s also loads of free parking on the street(woo!) When we were there there was what looked like a large family dinner going on, and there was still ample space. I know everyone is stuck on the beef roll, but I’m all about the potato roll… that thing is pure magic.

I was craving beef noodle soup and wrongly assumed that a place which hand-pulled their own noodles would be a good spot. The noodles were thick, gummy, and flavourless, the soup broth was overly rich and way salty, and there was basically no brisket at all. Majorly disappointing. I also ordered some chili eggplant thing which was edible, their ‘white’ rice had specks of purple rice in it and was overcooked and gloopy, and this kung pao chicken thing my wife wanted was poor quality thigh meat covered in a heavy solidified floury batter — nasty. The veg steamed dumplings weren’t good at all — thick overly sticky skin with a weird green-veg filling, ugh. The only saving grace was the beef roll thing which was kind of delicious. Very sweet front-end staff, though.
