I’ve been here many times, and I’m a fan! The staff is super friendly. They have super fresh oysters and a buck shuck from 3 to 7pm. =) I came by yesterday, but they were closed! I hope it’s just for renovations, and they didn’t shut down.

Cool place… Can’t beat buck a shuck hour! it’s a bit small so it will get packed pretty quick right after work. Hope a good shucker is working when you’re there otherwise the service can be a bit slow.

75c oysters between 1500 – 1600. Need one say more? I can’t find a better deal ANYWHERE. This is cheaper than most supermarkets for crying out loud. If you’re a salaryman, this means you’ll have to skip work, or bring a client and schmooze. Parking here is absolutely horrendous, so try to take public transit and save a tree. The venue is TINY. I don’t think there are more than 20 seats in the entire establishment. Many other bars have washrooms bigger than this place. With that said, this is a nice quiet and intimate venue if that’s what you’re looking for. The day I went, double highballs were $ 7. Another good deal. As for the oysters, they are all freshly shucked. Simply beautiful. This place is a real gem. Highly recommended.

We go for the buck-a-shuck, which is a fantastic value. The oysters are always fresh, and you usually have a choice between either the Royal Miyagi or the Summer Breeze. Personally, I think the Summer Breeze is clearly the superior oyster, but try both and see for yourself! It’s a very small place, manned by only one or two people at any one time. I love the cozy intimate space, and the servers are always friendly, but(through no fault of their own) the service is ridiculously slow. The servers are expected not just to serve, but to restock supplies, bartend, seat people, take reservations, clear tables, AND shuck all the oysters. It’s an impossible mission where they are set up to fail due to gross understaffing by management. Expect up to half hour waits for a dozen fresh-shucked oysters, and up to ten minutes even to just bring your wine to the table. I really like this place, and want so much to love it, but the lack of efficiency here is a pretty big problem. Another gripe is that aside from the buck-a-shuck, everything else on the menu reads like an over-priced upscale seafood restaurant. The space essentially functions as a bar; I’ve never seen anyone actually eat a meal there. The menu, however, doesn’t offer any bar snacks or shareable appetizers to accompany drinks. I love chowder and mashed sweet potato, but they’re just not conducive to having drinks after work with friends. I’m not being picky — even a plate of fries would be nice, but fries are not on the menu! I’m not writing this place off, but it definitely needs a few management tweaks.

My husband and I wandered into this little place for for the ‘buck a shuck’ deal first thing we got to town. It’s small, but that just make it cozy! The ambiance in nice. The oysters are high quality(especially for the happy hour deal!) The wait staff is friendly and efficient, if a bit ‘slammed’ during the 4 – 7 deal time. We tried several of the oyster preparations as well, including a seared oyster with wasabi cream sauce and a wonderful combination of japanese mushrooms and red miso. Julia, the talented head chef, took time to talk to us about the menu and gave great recommendations about what to do with out time while visiting Vancouver. All in all, we were happy and floating in oyster bliss by the end of our visit. I only wish we were staying longer so we could go back again.

I come here for a buck a shuck 4pm — 7pm. They have daily specials on drinks. On Monday the wine bottles are half price. So a bottle of wine and 2 dozen oysters between 2 people, only cost 50 something plus tax and tip. That is a heck of a deal! I love Royal Miyagi oysters, and one time had 18 pieces myself. Not that I couldn’t eat more, needed to consume shell fish wisely! You better call to make reservation first. The place is very small and it gets full rather quickly. And the 2 girls who work there are awesome! Unless you have no patience at all to wait for the oysters to be opened, you will enjoy the service there!

Well this must be the smallest place to eat ever only 15 seats and another 5 at the bar frankly my office is larger than this place, lol I went on a Tuesday night and was the only one there it was 6:30 so I was in time for the«Buck a Shuck» special. Wow this is a great deal and I’m told they have it daily, I had 12 oysters two types and both where delightful. I was presented with several sauces my favorite being the soy ponzu. Evita who worked the bar, shucked the oysters and waited on me was very sweet and she made sure I was pleased with my meal. I also had the Sable which was served with celeriac purée and asparagus it was cooked well but the portion was a bit small. Over all I enjoyed the meal and would go back when in Vancouver

In response to Annie Ws post, yes when such a small establishment is busy it can take some time to get your Oysters. If you are a table of 6 and you only ordered one dozen Oysters maybe a wiser choice to go to Ebi Su! I walk in the front door and immediately order two dozen. I get my drink within a few minutes and before I know it my Oysters have arrived. Common sense dictates that such a small place with usually only two people drink making/shucking is going to result in a small wait. Granted, an hour seems extreme and Im sure that is an exaggeration. Regardless, the taps style appies are amazing(love the salmon flat bread) and the Oysters are always top quality. Service is always great, perhaps because I am a regular… and I have NEVER seen an employee have a drink while working. I know this because I offer one most times I am in. Its Monday, might go by tonight.

Tucked away and difficult to find this teeny tiny little space only seats maybe about 20 people in total. Might be a cool spot to rent out for a party, actually, as it has a very charming, cozy interior. The menu is surprisingly larger than I’d imagine for such a tiny space. I imagine a one-cook kitchen based on the size and the pace with which food came out. What we were served was tasty, and while the prices aren’t great, they do have a pretty good oyster happy hour special from 3−7pm and ½ price bottles of wine on Mondays. I agree with Vincci L that there is an amateur air about the place. Because of its small size, they also only seem to have one person working the front of house. Seating people, taking orders, making drinks, serving food, and checking on customers — this is a lot to do and sadly isn’t done with any efficiency or warmth. When my friends and I were here, there were only one or two other tables. Yet, still, we struggled to get the server’s attention. She disappeared for a while in the back, maybe to shuck oysters or something. Oh well, her loss(and the business’) on the additional glasses of wine we could have ordered if we could have gotten service. I’m not in a rush to return, but I think this spot has great potential if they can improve the service a bit.

I echo most of the other reviews on Oyster… it’s a tiny little place tucked away in the Old Stock Exchange building. While most happy hour places in the area(the Financial district) are all about the mixing and mingling, don’t expect that at Oyster. This is a nice place to just unwind after work with a glass of wine and some oysters with a date/friend in a more quiet and intimate space. While I’m all about the buck a shuck oysters, try some of the food as well! The Everything is assorted steamed seafood and the broth is so flavourful! The salmon was good as well. And who knew that a simple bowl of green beams with sesame could be so aromatic? Plus, they have several different types of prepared Oysters. I tried the Motoyaki. It was ok, but still nothing holds a flame to my beloved Matsuyama. Since the place is so small I can see why there would only be one server… so when it gets busier it’s not easy to get her attention. But give the girl a break, she’s bartender, server, and most importantly, SHUCKER! No doubt that I would go back again… this time, on a Monday!

Fresh Oysters! Happy Hour: $ 0.503pm-4pm or $ 14pm-7pm for only first 2 dozen per party, Monday all wine bottles are 50% off. They chuck it for you. The lady was super nice! Chucked all of them and taught us the difference between oysters. HIGHLYRECOMMEND Kusshi, awesome!!! Service: Awesome Price: Happy hour = Awesome! Atmosphere: Nice bar place. Inside Stock Market Building or something. Very small and only has like 2 booth seating, with single bar seats. Happy Hour: Apparently its«Buck-A-Shuck Oysters» everyday from 3pm-7pm. $ 0.50 is sometimes? I included photos of what they’re weekly specials consisted of. Summer Breeze(BC) $ 2.75 Royal Miyagi(BC) $ 2.75 Sawmill Bay(BC0 $ 2.75 Read Island(BC) $ 2.75 Kusshi(BC) $ 3(the«pampered» oyster) Kumamot(WA) $ 3 Booze Beer on Tap: Honey Lager Granville Island $ 6 Signature Oyster Stout R&B Brewing $ 7 Can’t beat the prices here!!!

I had slight anxiety when deciding to come here to catch up with my girlfriend. The Unilocal reviews were so mixed, but I went anyways mostly due to my huge craving for fresh oysters and to check out a true heritage building. Making reservations was a breeze through Open Table. When we got there at 5pm, the restaurant was already half full, mind you that doesn’t mean very much for such a small place. Therefore, reservations are a must! The waitress promptly greeted me and then tucked me in a very small corner. Good thing we are both slender, if we were 10lbs wider and 2 inches taller, the extra body mass would have landed on the table. Buck a shuck from 4−7pm, that must be the most generous times I’ve seen. We started off with a dozen Summer Breeze oysters and paired with their Oyster Stout, absolutely fantastic. Throughout the night we ordered another 2 dozens and also the clam chowder, Hokaido scallops, mussels/clams steamer and kangaroo tartare and they were all fantastic. Having read about the slow service, I was proactive in ordering ahead of time when I saw that our oysters were running low. No issues what-so-ever. Perhaps the key thing is also having the right companion with you. Definitely not a dine and run to a movie kinda place, go to Oyster to relax, enjoy a bottle of wine with expertly prepared food and forget about time. The only reason I’m knocking a star off is for the logistics of the restaurant, it was not wheelchair or stroller friendly, washrooms are in the lobby all the way downstairs, and we got tucked into the building’s structural crevice. Yes, the place is small, but the table we got should not even have been an option. I am definitely going back!

$ 0.50 oysters from 3−4pm? It’s hard to beat! The other reviewers were right though, it’s a very small space. But very intimate if you can get a booth. If you’re at the tables, you’re going to be sharing with strangers. The liquor is a little pricey, but they have to make money back somehow. I would seriously consider mixing all the sauces in your oyster. The funny thing is that they would not give my friend a diet coke. They would give it to her along with Perrier water. If you’re looking for cheap oysters, this is the place to come around 3pm. For 3 dozen oysters, a beer and a Perrier water with diet coke, the tab came to less than $ 30.

Not much bigger than my room, not that I have a big room but this bar is ridiculously small. It located inside the Old Stock Exchange Building in downtown Vancouver on the corner of Howe and Pender. This small room serves namely oysters and drinks. Buck a Shuck runs from 4−7pm and reservations are highly recommended. A group of us got there for happy hour and found ourselves on each others’ lap. First we sat at the bar and then moved onto the only long table that sits 8 people. The space although intimate is quite cramped. The ceilings has a slight Da Vinci /Euro vibe to it and the little red booth seats are cute. The service was not so much. We were greeted by a snooty witness that didn’t want anything to do with us. We weren’t sure if she was angry at us for not making a reservation or the fact that we asked for water. Oysters are delicious and fresh. I like how they offer a few species of aphrodisiacs, especially my favourite Kusshi oysters. Caesar. Weak. No spice, no kick, and the salt rimmed glass was simply not very salted. I read that they use smoked salmon vodka(I couldn’t taste it if they did). And sadly the pickled bean was really not that fresh. Gin and Tonic. Hendrick’s Gin, a classic is best served with a wedge of cucumber instead of lime. Cucumber brings out the natural flavours while lime complete butchers it. This may not be the greatest place to charm your date. I just hope you encounter a difference waitress. But is a great place to meet if you want an excuse to snuggle closer. Just reminder to bring a few fresh mints!

Duh half price bottles of wine on a monday with half price oyster specials why wouldn’t you stop into this intimate space. And it is just that intimate! We didn’t dive into the full menu so I can’t comment on it. This is the type of place you stop by after work with some coworkers or meet a friend or two and just enjoy a bottle of wine and slide down some oysters and enjoy. A nice Monday night out for me!

You can’t go wrong with this tiny oyster gem. Their appies are small but very tasty and they have buck a shuck oysters everyday from 4pm-7pm! Talk about a happy hour! Of course you are limited to only a few types of oysters but it’s still worth it. I usually order a bottle of white wine, a dozen buck a shuck and probably another 6 premium oysters for me plus a guest. The 18 oyster platter is well priced at $ 36($ 2/Oyster) and gives you a great variety. One of the best things about this place is the décor. You’re basically in the lobby of an older building in Vancouver but it has an intimate/exclusive feel to it. You’re gonna want to call ahead and make a reservation to make sure you get a table cuz it’s tiny but cozy. The staff are very helpful and take their time to do a good job with shucking each oyster. If you’re sitting at the bar you can watch each one and the attention to detail taken.

I made reservations for 5 people on a Friday night about a month ago after winning a dozen oysters. I ‘m glad I called in advance to let them know about my prize as otherwise they had be cleaned out. This place is popular for buck a shuck. My reservation was a little behind but that’s to be expected as the place is so small, about 4 or 5 tables. While I waited at the bar, the staff were extremely attentive suggesting cocktails based on my tastes and chitchatting We were seated and well taken care of. The staff were well informed answered all our questions and seemed to generally be quite focused on us. The food was excellent. We tried a variety of dishes, from scallops, to fish, to a seafood tower and all helped ourselves to each others plates. Everyone was quite impressed. Even the prices seemed reasonable. Lately I have been hearing that the staff has really taken a turn for the worse and that several people have had some bad customer service experiences. Even through the those complaint people were still in agreement that the food is excellent. I have been assured that the restaurant is rectifying their staffing issues and I would still go back as my experience was great.

Corpse Reviver #2 cocktail was worth the trip. Didn’t need CPR afterwards but was crawling a bit. Great prohibition style cocktail in a corked bottle sitting on crushed ice. Very innovative and tasty. For food we had Oysters Rockefeller, Steamer Bowl and Garlic Bread. All three were good. The Steamer Bowl needed a bit more french bread with it. The room was interesting. The bar and service were likely the highlights. Ceilings were a bit odd and a bit overbearing. Overall the small room and cool cocktails make it a good place for a drink and a nibble before moving on to another place.
