I live very close to this restaurant and have bought take out food from them for at least eight years. For the last two years I have encountered problem after problem and have given them three chances to get me back as a regular customer. The first time I ordered chicken korma there were no nuts in it. When I called to advise they argued with me and told me to ask for nuts next time. What! The sauce always has nuts, why would I have to ask. The second time Ii asked for nuts I got peanuts instead of cashews. Again they argued with me. Two nights ago I decided to have the food delivered roughly six houses from the restaurant. I was told the delivery charge would be $ 1 or $ 2 so I agreed. When the food was delivered I was told the amount owing was $ 30 so I paid the delivery guy and gave him a $ 5 tip. This time I specifically ordered lots of cashews(which should be the norm) with my korma. The food I got was very good and hot as well. I noticed there was no receipt outside or inside the bag. Fortunately I have a menu so I added up the cost of my order only to find that it was $ 25.41 with tax. I went to the restaurant and explained the situation and they gave me $ 3 back and said they were sorry. I told them that this was not acceptable and I didn’t appreciate being ripped off, especially since I gave the delivery man such a nice tip. They have not offered any sort of goodwill gesture to resolve these problems so I am now writing this article and will not be buying food from them again.

that’s for the taste of the butter chicken, it’s good but compared to my favourite Sitar, it doesn’t cut it. but add the service, price, portion & neighbourhood feel — there’s nothing around here other than an insurance place & a mystery Safeway office across the street– plus a few condo units above, it’s a great place for the locals to walk there. Nice, clean ambience, date-worthy, more upper end casual. Not much parking at front on fraser but plenty on the side streets on E.56th ave but you’re right in the middle of residential area.

Authentic. Delicious. Huge portions. INCREDIBLE service. Very resonably priced. My favourite indian restaurant in town. If you decided to try this place, keep in mind that is authentic, therefore when ordering spice level, consider mild/medium unless you breathe fire for a living. I had to order anti-spice as my Canadian born and bred spice tolerance is apparently not as good as I thought it was.

I was thoroughly unimpressed with the customer service at this restaurant. After a few good experiences ordering take out from here, I noticed that the food kept getting spicier and spicier. To the point that my «mild-medium» butter chicken was a burn your mouth and esophagus butter chicken! After calling to complain, the waitress told me that the chilies were to blame– no kidding! Apparently they are spicier than they used to be and that’s why the food is now spicier. She said she had other people call to complain about the same thing. When I mentioned that I’d like to be compensated for the food that was too spicy for me to eat, she said she’d remember that for next time but that she couldn’t do anything about it this time. She didn’t seem to care at all that I wouldn’t be ordering from there again. Not impressed. Off to discover a better Indian take out restaurant!

First the good thing, the food was well prepared, naan bread was fresh and all done with a level of spiciness that was perfect. Not over the top hot, but a good honest medium that pushed our limits without killing our buds. Now the bad thing, the Jal and lemon drinks were both terrible. My friends and I have pretty diverse tastes and we’re fairly forgiving for things that are outside of our normal palettes, so we gave this Jal drink some effort try finding its character. Nope, didn’t come. The eggy scent didn’t help much, but the flavor overrode that sense. The thing that ultimately killed it for me was the level of salt used in the drink. It was borderline barf inducing, and that’s pretty high. Next I decided to try going for something more refreshing, with Lemon. Same problem! Salt and pepper in a lemon drink, what the heck is this? I could imagine the pepper being an interesting new sensation, but it looks like they grabbed the S&P shaker and had at ‘er. So be warned, the drinks need attention. But the food is fantastic.

The butter chicken and nan are really delicious. Tandoori chicken, is just OK. Will go back just for the butter chicken and nan:)

We ordered some food to go quite late(around 9.30PM) My BF ordered a goat dish which was delicious !! Just the right amount of spice and a lot of meat which was tender(which can be hard to have with goat). Unfortunately I ordered a quarter of Tandorri chicken which was terrible, super super dry. Liked cooked days in advance and reheated for me … big disapointment. The price is correct but my chicken was far to be good. Even my BF(which is less picky than me) wasn’t very impressed by it, so we won’t go back. Pas tres bon ce poulet !!

I am at this restaurant and the food is excellent. They make food to the spice level you want. Food takes a bit as they serve it fresh. How many restaurants do that these days

Chana masala is a rich and creamy chickpea curry that is pretty standard Indian fare — it’s served at most Indian restaurants in Vancouver. Chana masala is my favourite food. I could eat it every day and live a happy and full life, I think. I have had good chana masala, bad chana masala, okay chana masala. I have eaten many chana masalas; maybe I have had 30 different chana masalas. This place serves the best chana masala I have ever had. Once, when recovering from a surgery, I was asked what I wanted to eat. I knew that this was my one chance to be incredibly selfish and ask for whatever I wanted, no matter how far away it was, and this is what I asked for: Original Tandoori Kitchen’s chana masala. And my girlfriend rode her bike to 57th and Fraser and got it for me. Probably if I were to commit a capital crime in Texas I would ask for this dish as my last meal.

I was hungry and my friend was craving indian so he told me there was a new indian restaurant that opened up just off 57th ave & Main St. To my surprise it was the Original Tandoori Kitchen that had reopened in a new location. Got down to business and ordered fish pakora, a half order of Tandoori chicken, and lamb vindaloo with regular & garlic naan on the side. The fish pakora was fairly good though I did ponder what type of fish I was inhaling. The tandoori chicken came out on a sizzling cast iron plate and had a truly authentic taste. Last we had the lamb vindaloo(portion was a lil on the small side) that was ordered medium hot which wasn’t enough spice for my indian tastebuds. Don’t get me wrong it had good flavour but without that smack you upside your head heat that I was expecting. Next time I’m gonna tell them don’t be shy with the spice even if I have my asian friend with me, he can handle it… lol. Considering everything it was a good experience just stay away from the homemade lemon soda water… trust me.

At long last, I’ve found the elusive Indian restaurant that I’ve been looking for in YVR. On the hot tip of my brother who heard this from a trusted colleague, I headed straight to Original Tandoori Chat House(«OTCH»). OTCH serves up an excellent lamb rogan josh that is accompanied by a naan that isn’t murdered in butter — this combination was the high point. Truth be told, the chicken tikka was just OK and perhaps a touch too dry. Based on the elated faces of fellow diners, the tandoori wraps look like the way to go. I will certainly be branching out into the chaats and wraps on my next visit. OTCH is unassuming form the outside; it’s a break from the oh-so familiar raj style restaurant. OTCH is clean and simple with ample light by the windows. There is some confusion on who is the original(that is, the first) tandoori kitchen in this town. Evidently all the restaurants in a 5 block radius claim this title. Some claim they’re king of Tandoori Kitchens. Confused? OTCH is on the corner of 56th at 7233 Fraser St. run by, yes, the Original Tandoori Kitchen folks who have restaurants in Surrey and Burnaby. It closes at 10:30pm(M-F) and 11pm(S-S).

I have been having a hankering to have some East Indian food since I came back to Vancouver and I finally got the chance to do it with 2 ½ people(my cousin, her husband and their 5 month year old). The place was very clean and roomy. For a Saturday evening, it wasn’t too busy which was good for the baby as he tends to get cranky at some point. We ordered several dishes: lamb curry, chicken jalfrezie, butter chicken, keema naan, plain naan and don’t quote me on this… an onion naan and a curry dish made with chickpeas. All in all, the restaurant was clean, spacious. Staff was very friendly. Food was wonderful. Price was fair. I am definitely coming back again.

The original and still the best! Have dined in on weeknights and weekends around eight times in the last four to five years. Located in a residential neighborhood high in Punjabi residents. Fast, efficient, no bs service. Small restaurant, parking is easy, service is courteous but not overbearing. Clean. The first Indian restaurant I have eaten at so has a special place in my heart. I’ve never come here with less than three other people. Great food, also my first korma experience was here and now I’m hooked. For me this place and Quilon are the two Indian restaurants I can return to time and again for consistent food and service without having to go through the troubles of making reservations, or thinking the meal costs too much. Can’t wait to return.

My best friend loves roti — the thin, flat bread that goes great with every indian dish — and this place has one of the best. This is a franchise restaurant in the lower mainland. They have spots in Surrey and Burnaby, and all of them are great. They have a bbq type dish that will blow you away. They serve you either lamb or chicken on a small hot grate. I love to eat their dinner special. It’s about $ 12 and it gives you a taste of each one of their indian dishes. The service is quick and the food comes out hot.
