Did not enjoy the food at all. The Naan were more like pancakes than the naan I’m familiar with. I ordered the garlic & ginger naan. Couldn’t taste it at all. I told the server this, but he just looked puzzled and explained it was a cream sauce they applied. I could also tell the veggies used in the mixed vegetable Madra were ones from a bag, not freshly cut. The Gobi Alu tasted like a cheap pizza sauce. The server was nice but not helpful. When I walked in, I asked for a table close to the wall. He apologized and gave us a small table smack in the middle because a party was on its way. Understandable(the time we were there, no party came). Sadly, the table was off balance and would tip a bit everytime you placed a bit of weight on it(don’t lie to yourself, this would bother anyone). I asked if he wouldn’t mind sliding a piece of cardboard/paper under to keep it sturdy but he didn’t. At the end, he asked how I enjoyed dinner. I was kindly honest with him. He made no effort to be helpful. I paid the bill with my food still on the table… barely touched.

Food was fine, though service was slow(near non-existent, in fact), especially considering I was the only one in there at prime dinner time. Wish it was better since I live close by and was looking for a new local haunt.

9. Ulunthu Vadai(2pcs) [deep-fried urid dhal(black gram dhal) donuts served with coconut chutney $ 3.952⁄5 — The lady was nice enough to give us 3 pieces because there were 3 of us. It was just a piece of deep-fried dough with onions. 10. Masala Calamari(spiced deep-fried squid mixed with green pepper, red pepper, onions, and mixed with special sauce) $ 7.952.5÷5 — The calamari was better but they were barely any pieces of calamari. 16. Seafood Biryani(fish, shrimp, and squid cooked with basmati rice, cashew nut and spices) served with rice, roti, papadam and raita $ 12.953⁄5 — not many pieces of seafood. The flavour was good. 43. Lamb Vindaloo Dosa(thin rice crêpe filled with hot spiced ground lamb and potatoes) $ 8.952.5÷5 — lots of potatoes with little lamb. 70. Chicken Madras(chicken pieces cooked with South India masala in coconut milk) $ 11.952⁄5 — very watery. I would not call this a curry. 88. Palak Paneer(spinach and homemade cheese cooked with spices) $ 8.951⁄5 — it was made with frozen spinach. I could taste any cheese. I think I can do a better job than this. 91. Plain Naan(leavened bread cooked in hot chilli) $ 1.453.5÷5 — very soft and bready. I can’t remember there was any hot chilli. 104. Puri(fried puffed bread) $ 1.52⁄5 — very oily piece of bread 113. beef kothu roti(chopped roti mixed with onions, green chilies, egg and beef curry) $ 7.002.5÷5 — the beef was a little too dry. Lots of onions and peppers than the actual roti. 312. sweet lassi(a yogurt-based Indian drink) $ 3.003.5÷5 — not as sweet as I thought it might be. Even less sweet than most of the mango lassi I have had. The lady was nice enough to give us the extra half that could not fit into the glass. The lady said they have wifi but we could barely connect it. It was okay to use this on phones but definitely not strong enough for laptops. We moved to the closest table to the router. It still didn’t help much. There is a 10% markup when you order it through .

The String Hoppers and Sambal were amazing, and I’ve never had better Sambar elsewhere. Service is friendly. Can’t wait to be back: D!

Been here many times. Inexpensive, good service. Always friendly. Food a bit on the greasy side, but hits the spot. Go here for cheap Indian eats on Fraser!

I love a block away from this place and it took me almost a year to try it, doesn’t look very appetizing from outside, when I finally try it was a pleasant surprise! Tasty, good price and service. The mild it’s already spicy watch for that.

Strong Indian takeout, and pleasant to eat-in although quiet most times. You can order online or phone, I’ve tried both and my order is always correct. This place specializes in dosas, but I tend to like the curries and I find them to be just as flavourful. I love roti, like really love roti, and theirs holds up well even reheating the next day to go with my leftover curries. I discovered the chicken kurma this week, and it was delicious — a little bit less hot than the curry which was a nice alternative to the searing heat if you are looking for a couple of dishes to order. I love the beef curry, good meat quality, great flavour, and nice and thick. I order medium heat — and that’s all I can take, and be warned, your mouth will be searing ! The value is great, about $ 10 for most dishes and they come with roti, rice and papadums — I usually get two meals out of it if I order an extra side of roti. The only downside is their pakoras are sorely lacking, doughy and not flavourful at all(and served with ketchup — really??). Loses a star for this one. But the rest is great and a regular favourite takeout!

First, order mild. Even this made my face sweat. If you think you can take it, order medium, but get extra papadums, roti, whatever, to spoon that raita into your mouth. Food is tasty. Lamb kurma is sensational and beef curry has better cuts of beef than many Indian places. Not much fatty meat with this place. If you can find it, pour a glass of Jam Jar(sweet Shiraz). It may be the only wine that doesn’t make the spicy lip sting worse.

A nice pleasant surprise with the décor here in this part of Fraser, it’s not really well known but if you’re in the area and need an above average, nicer place, this one is clean and up to modern specs. Known for their dosas. free parking easy in the front. Also have another location in new west so figure must be more than decent, they’ve been here for over 3 years so that’s a good sign.

I heard some up and down reviews for this place, but it sounds like they’re slowly on the upclimb because the place was pretty okay when I went last. Might be a bit late for them, since we were the only people in the restaurant the whole time. Service was definitely slow(surprising, since you know — only people there). I was all excited when I saw dosas on the menu. I haven’t had a dosa in a long long time, and was super happy to order it off the menu. When the lady asked me how spicy I wanted it I said medium. Because right? Medium? That sounds reasonable. Medium is insanely spicy. Like, REALLY spicy. Like it hurts my lips after three bits. Everything burned. Pretty much everything that we ordered aside from the naan was extrmeely spicy. Even the pakoras were spicy! Good gracious, I couldn’t taste a thing after two minutes! I even had food left over to bring back to my husband, who subsequently also burned off his tongue as well. But the food is good, and if I go back I’ll definitely order the mild next time and try not to be a hero. It’s seems a decent enough place, but the fact that it’s quiet as heck makes me wonder why.

My wife and I are both big fans of South Indian/Sri Lankan food, and Nooru Mahal is our favourite spot in Vancouver for this cuisine. Their menu is less varied than it first appears, but what they do, they do very well. Also, unlike many Indian restaurants the world over, when you ask for a dish to be «medium spicy» it reliably comes to you exactly«medium spicy». So you know what your getting. The service could be faster, but it’s always pleasant, which somewhat masks the tardiness. The kitchen is deceptively busy, as it seems a large part of their business is take out and delivery, so don’t be surprised if you have to wait a bit for your food even if you are the only ones seated. Avoid the handful of North Indian menu items also, as you can get better elsewhere, but for dosa, kuthu roti, or string hoppers and curry, this is an excellent option in East Van.

Solid Indian take out. Starving with an empty fridge, I discovered this place on . Ordered the Vegetarian Samosas, Butter Chicken, and Palak Paneer. I was quoted online that it would be ready to pick up in 25 minutes, but just 10 minutes later I got a call telling me it was ready. Luckily I was just a 5 minute walk away. The first thing I noticed when I picked up the food was the quantity — for $ 29 the bag was stuffed pretty full. The meals came with rice AND roti AND poppadoms — so don’t make the mistake of ordering those sides separately(I almost did). Samosas were nothing special but nonetheless very good. Butter chicken was really tasty. Palak paneer was a bit disappointing(pretty sure the spinach was frozen). Regardless, I wouldn’t hesitate to order from here again — just skip the spinach next time.

After spending some time travelling Sri Lanka, I feel in love with the countries food. Too me its almost a fusion of Indian, Thai, and Caribbean cuisine… Sri Lankan food is probably some of the most delicious I’ve ever tried. After arriving home i was in search for some local sri lankan food and after stumbling upon Noorumahal i was not disappointed. Make sure you try the kohtu roti… its like a sri lankan stiry fry using deliciously cooked strips of roti… just delicious! The string hoppers are also a favorite!

The restaurant was basically empty when we arrived on a friday night at dinner. not a good sign! Ordered veggie pakoras that were gummy with flour and seem to have been sitting around for some time. And they were served with ketchup(with a bit of chili sauce mixed in!) Shared eggplant bhartha and palak paneer with my partner. The bhartha was okay, the palak panner was horrible. The paneer was ground up in the spinach and everything was watery. I expect that frozen spinach was used. The roti was the only decent thing about the meal. In the end, the server didn’t even have proper change when it came time to pay! Not recommended.

I have been going to this restaurant for about 13 – 15 years. During that time it changed ownership… and food quality changed. But always there were a few items that were amazing. I mostly eat Sri Lankan food… and their food is very good. The only complaint is that when i just got to love a dish for a while the store was sold to someone else… and that dish i liked was not that great. But there turned out to be other dishes that were great. I had to try different dishes to figure out which ones were good when the restaurant changed hands. Food can be very hot… so you have to ask for mild if you eat medium somewhere else. Absolutely delicious. Service can be slow or fast depending on the owner. It is quite clean and friendly atmosphere.

Here was my first taste of Vancouver Indian food, and got to discover it from a flyer. Boy, those flyers with photos really work when hungry! Never mind if you have to drive away from downtown, our group, sold on the idea drove and came in an almost empty restaurant, clean cafeteria style with a TV screen playing Bollywood variety shows. Service was attentive and helpful, and we felt actually good about succumbing to the print ad. It offers South Indian, Halal, and Sri Lankan cuisine at very reasonable prices. However, its main offerings are a large selection of dosa dishes. Our kind waiter spent a good two minutes describing the dosa dishes, only for us to skip it and go with the staples we normally order. The food took awhile to come out, but all dishes came out flavourful, with well-balanced spices. I instantly devoured the roti which I thought was the highlight for me. At that point, I would have given it 4 stars. However, having gone out to a few more Indian restaurants, I deemed it was only my satiated appetite speaking at the time and not a more discerning taste and judgment for the cuisine. In fact, I’ve had in many instances, a lot better roti elsewhere. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant and satisfying experience for us, but will move on to try the myriad of other places serving similar cuisine, though I might change my mind if they come up with a tempting promo on their flyer again.

Always good and have been for the last 15 years I have been going here. Always be sure to ask for«extra filling» in your dosa. Delivery or take out is best, as eating in takes FOREVER. House of Dosas on Kingsway may have better food, but one time when they delivered food to our house, we had a weird, creepy experience, so we won’t be going back there.

This is an Indian restaurant specializing in dosas. It is decent. But I much prefer House of Dosas on Kingsway. The items here the times I have been(before I found House of Dosas) were inconsistent. Sometimes they were good, but unfortunately more often they were just«ok.»
