What sets this small family owned restaurant apart is its complex flavours and unusually broad menu of vietnmese entrees. Of course it does delicious phở, but look for more like stews and entrees. I’ve been there 5 times now, and the only misstep was a dish including chopped pork, which turned out to be just ham. Other dishes reward with deep, rich flavours, and just thinking about it makes me want to go back. I’m writing from memory so I can’t say exactly which items were standouts– a stew and com dish come to mind now. Yum.

Different from Song Huong, but excellent in its own way. I was able to try some specialty dishes that other restaurants had not offered me yet.(like banh xeo, an omelet like thing you wrap in lettuce) The prices are reasonable and the portions are decent. If you aren’t feeling overly adventurous, have a dry noodle(buon) or a delicious phở tai bo vien(rare beef slices and beef meatball & noodle soup combo, always great in this Raincouver weather. :) ***under new management. Indefinitely better. Less greasy feel/taste and I don’t get that disgusting after taste of MSG!!! Thien Trang. I think that’s what it’s called now. If you haven’t been there, you must go NOW! Awesome dishes, delightful prices that include tax and quick service. That’s the way to go! :)

The original location of the much-lauded Mui Ngo Gai on Kingsway( ). There’s a huge sign out front that sells the *other* location pretty hard as being ‘bright’ and ‘classy’ and urges you to ‘try it out’(see photo) — it almost seem self-deprecating. Are the owners trying to selling this location? I could even hear the waitress tell another table to check out the other joint. Yes, it’s not as nice as the Kingsway location — but the food and service is pretty much the same. The times I’ve been here — it seems busier than the Kingsway location(which is bigger and usually have one or two tables that I’ve seen). On my last visit, grabbed the banh xeo(a.k.a. Vietnamese crepes/sizzling pancakes) and it lives up to the high standard that MNG has set for itself — tad oily but very crispy. However, I did notice that didn’t provide us enough lettuce — when I asked for more, the waitress brought some and watched me eat. Then asked me if I was Vietnamese — apparently speaking Cantonese the entire time to my tablemate wasn’t enough of a hint. Yes — apparently, I look *very* Vietnamese when I’m eating banh xeo. And no, I wasn’t wearing Kappa trackpants, North Face puffy jacket, sandals and dyed bangs… ‘mang’. But on a serious tip, the lettuce isn’t a side dish — you use it to wrap the banh xeo and garnishes and dip into the nuoc cham(dipping sauce). Do it once at your favourite Vietnamese joint, make sure they see you and you instantly boost street cred. Anyways — great Vietnamese joint with rarer dishes, good service, inexpensive and solid soups. Also open until midnight. I drop by this location more often since it’s closer to my place — so the ‘dim’ and ‘tacky’ décor is cool with me.

This is an authentic Viet restaurant to come get your Phở or other various dishes. If you’ve only been for Phở elsewhere an entire half of this menu will look foreign to you. Fear not though, there’s ample descriptions on what style of Vietnamese dish along with which region of Vietnam the dish typically originates from. This is a place that the adventurous can truly explore some of the lesser known dishes along with being equally pleasing for those looking for a simple beef noodle bowl. The staff here are super smiley and friendly which is nice. Unlike other places it never feels rushed and they don’t go chasing you out the door. The décor is not better and no worse than any other Viet restaurant and in all honestly with the loudly playing TV going sounds just as if you’re eating at home in the living room. Free parking out back is also a plus!

One of my favorite places to have authentic Vietnamese food with my family for lunch. The place is clean and spacious with a «tropical» decore. I like the fact they provide an abundance of fresh Viet. herbs to go with the dish and food come out piping hot. My favs are Bun Bo Hue and Bön Rieu. Good tasty broth with loads of ingredients in each bowl. Good food and reasonable places.
