Best place for Chinese food in town. Great shanghainese food too! The soup filled dumplings is just right! The braised pork I had was great too. Once I make friends that eat spicy Chinese food I will come back here for sure.

Good authentic chinese food. Was here for Christmas dinner. A real good find. Was going to go next door until i read their Unilocal review. Pleasant surprise.

Dan Dan noodles and cumin lamb are really good. Goes well with rice. Spice level could be adjusted upon request. Food came really fast. Cash only.

Beautifully rich, spicy Chinese food. I highly recommend the chicken with cashews and the soy sauce fried rice(kind of like Chinese nasi goreng?) Like many of Kingsway’s best, the décor and ambience aren’t what you’re here for: you’re here for good food. I took my mother and she, unlike me, doesn’t like spicy food, so we asked them to make one of their spicy dishes without the chillis and they obliged. The result was just as tasty. I don’t know Hunanese food well(this is literally my first Hunanese place), but think«Sichuan» more than«Canton» in terms of the regional style.

I brought my mom and aunt here — they’re SUPER picky with Chinese restaurants. I was a bit nervous because the restaurant is quite small and looks a bit outdated — they weren’t too stoked to try it out but I had no problem with the looks. We ordered a total of 4 big dishes consisting of dandan noodles, steamed fish with chilli peppers, pork blood/intestine soup, and spicy chicken w/chilli. And my goodness! All of them were so good and very authentic too. BOTH my mom and aunt were impressed, and that says a lot. My mom was raving about the steamed fish. She said that it’s almost impossible to find this specific dish anywhere anymore, and to find it made so well too… she was happy. My aunt never has more than one bite of dandan noodles anywhere we go, but she had a few bowls and was even drinking the soup(my jaw almost dropped). For me, I enjoyed every dish. I usually don’t eat fish but I was picking at it until there was none left! Also, this place has become my favourite place for dandan noodles. The spicy level is just right, the soup isn’t too thick, and the texture of the noodles were perfect. The only reason why they lost one star was because of the service — the restaurant was completely filled during lunch hour and there was only ONE server(the only other one ran to the back to help with the cooking). The server looked so exhausted, I felt so bad! But at the same time, we couldn’t get our tea/water refilled(all of our dishes are spicy too). She would place our dishes down at the very edge of the table and walk away right away while you were talking to her or look super pissed off if we asked her for water. There were customers standing at the front door for 15 minutes and being ignored — thank goodness they were patient. Overall, I would definitely come back. The food is amazing. So glad that I don’t have to go all the way to Richmond anymore. But I won’t be coming back during peak ours. I read other reviews and can see that they only ever have 1 – 2 servers. I would rather not get the death stare for asking for a refill.

I probably should have written the review about a month back, cuz I’ve forgotten most of what we had ordered. The hot and sour soup had good flavor, about $ 10 for a massive bowl for the table. I recall we had cumin lamb, dan dan noodles, and a few other dishes which were good for the most part — but some dishes were far too oily. One thing I will NOT recommend are the xiao long bao… terrible here, dry, no soup inside, I’m pretty sure these were frozen. Don’t waste your money on the XLB here!

Lovely little Kingsway gem serving up authentic, carefully prepared Hunan food that will knock your socks off. If you’re looking for a mapo doufu that will make your eyebrows sweat, this is the place. Highlights include stir-fries with papery white chilies, deep-fried spicy chicken, lamb with cumin, hot pots. I’m too squeamish for organ meats, so can’t comment on some of the two-hundred plus menu items. I’m working up to it, is what I keep telling myself. If you would like to go with me and order something with pork blood so I can try it without committing to a whole dish, hit me up! You might have to wait a while for your order to be made fresh in the kitchen, but the wait is worth it. My only beef is that that the prawn dish I ordered once had smaller shrimp than I would have liked, and their prices have gone up a bit recently. They offer lunch specials, which are the best deal. Closed between 3:00 and 5:00 pm, so plan accordingly.

The worst restaurant ever, servers don’t care about customers, we waited 30 min. Even we were the only customers, food was terrible, waiter was clipping her nails close to the food at counter, disgusting, don’t go there!!!

A Unilocal favorite did not disappoint. The small restaurant was crowded so we sat at a large table. The two servers were extremely busy but efficient.

Great HuNan Style Chinese food. There are lots of special dishes here. Most of the items I tried are very satisfying. The service is decent. Interior is slightly better then average. Street parking is easy and fairly cheap. Also there are parking at the back of the restaurant. I would totally recommend it. The place isn’t big. Reservation is recommended if coming with big group.

Well, trying a new chinese restaurant is one of the most difficult things I can think of undertaking. SO many choices here in Vancouver, ranging from overpriced and overfilled. Greasy and sweaty tasting, really horrible service and an array of just SHIT food. I can honestly saying being causasian and eating at asian restaurants in general leaves a lot to be desired. I’m often overlooked, un cared for and generally treated with distaste. This is a fact. However… Lucky Noodle is not one of those places. It was delicious. It was fast, flavourful, well cooked and a good spice to it. Had the green onion pancake, dumplings, green beans and sesame chicken. Ate a good amount of food but didn’t feel gross from it, as chinese food has that evil ability to do. Id happily come back here again, for authentic tasting Hunan style chinese food.

Went to this restaurant because my grandmother’s favourite Congee Noodle house restaurant on Kingsway was busy. This whole in the wall is awesome! This is the place to go for authentic Hunan food, especially when you’re sick and tired of Cantonese food. Ordered: Fish stir fry. Very greasy layer of oil on the plate when you’re finished eating but this makes it authentic. Just like China. LOL The fish was basa but it actually tasted good. I normally don’t like Basa because Basa has a mushy texture and tastes like dirt. Shredded fish stir fry — same taste, same fish as above but a different vegetable was used. Spicy beef with noodles. Very generous portion Xiao lung Bao — just ok Spicy beef hot pot — oooh it was spicy and generous with the meat portion Rice — reasonable price Average prices of the dishes were about $ 12 to $ 15. 6 people, about $ 66 = $ 11 per person We walked out happy and full. I will go there again. Just remember to bring the antacids.

My very picky Asian mother loves this restaurant. It’s authentic, greasy and tantalizingly spicy. Their fried white chilly peppers are amazing.

This is the place to go if you want authentic Hunan Chinese food. The food is consistently good and speaking with the chef, I found out that he orders a lot of his spices from China. Hence the authenticity, unlike many Chinese food places in Vancouver, which tends to be adapted to the local taste buds. Recommended dishes included the award winning stir fried pork with white chili peppers, house special fried rice, cumin lamb, tea tree mushroom, etc. Actually I’ve not had a dish that I didn’t like and I’ve eaten here more than 10 times.

If you like super spicy food, you must try Lucky Noodles! It located on Kingsway and opposite to Safeway. It is a small and clean place. It has a lot of visual interest with the vines on trellis suspended from the ceiling and the lights are showed with the restaurant name. The dishes came promptly and they were all spicy and tasty. Hot Pepper in black bean sauce — seeds were super spicy, can burn your mouth. LOL. Stir fried Dry mushroom with squid in hot plate — Smell the spicy when it served. It’s so delicious. Double cooked sliced spicy pork with cabbage — Too greasy and not spicy enough. Beef noodles — It’s good and simple Pan fried green onion pan cake — pretty standard and bland Mouthful chicken in chili oil — The chicken was served as cold dish and it’s ok. After all spicy dishes, you may need a big pot of tea to cool down.

* Consistent * I returned to try their cumin lamb dish again, and thankfully it was just as good as the first time. The lamb is very tender, and there are nice whole chunks of smokey chili with several Szechuan peppercorns. The cilantro gives a nice crunch and balance to the dish, as do the onions. Reasonably priced at $ 7.95 which includes rice and a glass of soy milk. Photo: Also got to try the«Hunan style pea curd»(which I had to order since I’ve never heard of pea curd before — thanks to Lolia S. I now know this is called liangfen). The white jelly is quite similar to the type you get at Korean restaurants in nokdumuk. It was served chilled in a delicious sauce which had strong chili flavour, some fresh cilantro, toasted sesame seeds, sesame oil, soy sauce, and dried shrimp. These all blend together beautifully to make a delicious sauce for the pea curd. This was listed as an appetizer sized dish and priced at a very reasonable $ 4.95, but was actually a HUGE dish. Photo: Service was very friendly, even though I was the only non-Mandarin speaking customer. I’ll be back.
